Review: 'For Colored Girls' Would Have Been Better Suited For The Small Screen

November 3rd, 2010 10:00am EDT
Four Colored Girls
A good movie either needs the big screen, the big budget, or big stars to be worthy of an audience as large as Tyler Perry's. “For Colored Girls” would make a wonderful first season of a cable (or TBS) drama.

Tyler Perry's "For Colored Girls" is one of those movies that follows interconnecting stories of people going through struggles. The domestically abused, the sexually assaulted, accidentally impregnated, the barren, and hopelessly devoted. Think “Valentines Day” with rape.

The movie is not unlike that of a, or, well, six lifetime films in that it's about women who don't need men. Or ...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Princess And The Frog,' 'Invictus' & More

December 7th, 2009 9:47am EST
Invictus
Last Tuesday I had the privilege of seeing Jason Reitman's "Up in the Air" and I have to say, it's a brilliant film. Much like he does in "Thank You for Smoking," Reitman takes a character that has the potential to be very unlikable and makes him sympathetic to the audience.

Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) is a man whose career involves laying people off around the country, which is a sensitive subject in America given the current economic state. Reitman exercises great care with Bingham, showing us that the man isn't coldhearted. Bingham inspires those he lays off to find new careers ...

TV Honorees That Should Get Their First Shot At Emmy Nominations

June 10th, 2009 12:02pm EDT
Aaron Paul
Yesterday, we went over the Emmy nominees who have overstayed their welcome. Those perennial TV honorees that simply don't deserve the recognition they once did or, in some cases, never did at all.

So if they're out, who's in? Surely, there can't be too many nominees waiting in the wings. After all, television professionals choose these awards; they can't possibly leave out any substantial number of qualified candidates in favor of perennial duds.

Unfortunately, that's the way it is. Voters simply don't like to change their ways with regards to voting. It almost seems that a ...
