Elizabeth Olsen and Andrea Riseborough are among the young actresses set to compete for the coveted Rising Star prize at the upcoming British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards.

Martha Marcy May Marlene star Olsen will go head-to-head for the award with Riseborough, who found success with a lead role in Madonna's historical drama W.E.

They are both on the female-dominated shortlist along with Atonement's Juno Temple and Anna Karenina star Alicia Vikander, while the only male contender is Life of Pi's lead actor Suraj Sharma.

Madonna attended the "W.E." UK Premiere in London yesterday wearing a pretty black gown with an unusual accessory - a bright red lace glove.

The film, which Madonna directed, centers on a lonely woman's obsession with the relationship between King Edward VIII (James D'Arcy) and American divorcée Wallis Simpson (Andrea Riseborough).

The pop star recently confirmed the name of her new album - "M.D.N.A." It's set for release in March. "Gimme All Your Luvin'" - a track she recorded for the album with Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. - was leaked online in November.

Madonna's new royal movie is to have its world premiere at this year's Venice Film Festival.

W.E. is the pop icon's sophomore directorial effort, and charts the scandalous relationship between King Edward VIII and American divorcee Wallis Simpson. The monarch abdicated from his royal position in 1936 after their love affair became public.

The film, which has received a glowing response following a test screening, will be shown out of competition at the prestigious festival, which runs from August 31st to September 10th.

Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has high hopes for Madonna's directorial debut after announcing plans to release the drama in time for the awards season.

The pop superstar's new movie W.E. partly chronicles King Edward VIII's romance with American divorcee Wallis Simpson, which forced him to abdicate the British throne to his brother.
