Number 88 on Comedy Central's "100 Greatest Stand-Ups" of all time, Paula Poundstone was born on December 29, 1959, in Huntsville, Alabama, and was raised in Sudbury, Mass. She started doing stand-up in Boston in 1979 and later moved to California. Paula won a Cable Ace Award for the best stand-up comedy show as host of "The Paula Poundstone show" in 1993. Later she had trouble with the law when she was arrested in California for committing lewd acts on children and also driving her children while she was intoxicated. In June 2001, she entered a rehab center for alcoholism, and her charges were later dropped.
