'Glee' Recap: Bring In The Bieb, Bring Back The Berry

February 16th, 2011 11:39am EST
Glee
The one-two punch of the Super Bowl and Valentine’s Day hit the “Glee” gang pretty hard, and this non-holiday themed return is all about launching a ‘Comeback.’

First, welcome back Guidance Counselor and Stamos Wife, Emma Pilsbury. Though she seldom felt compelled to step in and combat the bullying at McKinley, a Sue-icide note from the fallen cheer coach has reminded her of the office full of all-purpose pamphlets she has yet to hand out to students and teachers in need. In a world where depressed faculty members audit extra-curricular activities, that and a bad idea is all it takes to ge...

Don't Cry For 'Glee'... When It's This Good!

December 1st, 2010 3:14pm EST
Glee
For sectionals this year, Will is determined to prove how self-aware ‘Glee’ can be. Critics concerned about how overexposed Lea Michele is and how underutilized Heather Morris is, Will has got your back. Folks, who would be happy listening to Lea Michele sing the phone book every week, Santana’s going to taunt you with “Yentl” references and torture Rachel with revelations on the true status of Finn’s virginity. (For those who missed it, Santana took it in the middle of a wonderfully entertaining tribute to Madonna.)

The news doesn’t exactly help boost morale for the glee club, although it...

'Glee' Recap: Wedding Blitz

November 24th, 2010 1:47pm EST
Glee
It’s a Glee wedding – Finn’s Mom and Kurt’s Dad. Sue and Herself. Quinn and Sam. Within the first few minutes all three “couples” are flirting with the idea of putting a ring on it.

Meanwhile, Kurt’s bully is continuing to terrorize him and there’s nothing Principal Sue can do…. Except change her nickname for Kurt from “Lady” to “Porcelain.” Rachel however, is not comfortable with that course of action and rallies the Glee girls to sic their football boyfriends on Karofsky. The only one absent from the unsuccessful beat down is Finn. NOT COOL.

In other NOT COOL news, Sue’s absentee, Nazi...

Finn and Sam are sexually frustrated, Puck is back, and Sectionals are a month away. Also, Mr. Schue is rehashing last year’s Battle of the Sexes assignment and Kurt is getting physically and verbally attacked. Ryan Murphy has talked about how this season will deal with homophobia and focus on themes of acceptance. Right from the start, we see that these issues will be at the heart of this week’s “Glee.”

'Glee' Recap: Rocking The Horror Show

October 27th, 2010 11:07am EDT
rocky horror
Coming into “The Rocky Horror Glee Show,” my expectations were not particularly high. My familiarity with the source material began and ended with the iconic singing red lips and in general, I’m not a huge fan of “the Halloween episode.” I just don’t look forward to that week when shows decide to ignore every story arc they’ve set up just to put their characters into some stylized parody of a horror movie. Therefore, I was thrilled to see that this week’s installment of “Glee” actually felt more like an episode of “Glee” than an unintentionally rocky, well… horror show.

The storyline of ‘...

'Glee' Recap: Let's Duet And Do It Again

October 13th, 2010 12:18pm EDT
Glee Duets
Two great ‘Glee’ episodes in a row! Last week’s ‘Grilled Cheesus’ made us believe in the power of this show to move us to tears and surprise us with its graceful exploration of complicated themes. This week, ‘Duets’ brought the drama back down to a high school level and gave us a distinctly different but equally satisfying hour of entertainment.

Mr Schuester’s announcement of an intra-glee club sing-off sets the wheels in motion for plenty of relationship drama. As with any high school activity that involves contests and partnerships, alliances build up and break down as disappointments,...

'Glee' Recap: The Britney Spears Show

Paging John Stamos! I need a morally questionable dentist to administer a healthy dose of pop star-conjuring narcotics to my system so that I can watch the cast of “Glee” re-enact Britney Spears’ music videos and find the experience truly euphoric. Otherwise, I’ll have to admit that I just didn’t love an episode that I have been looking forward to since last April, when the Madonna episode of “Glee” rocked my world and Spears’ manager pitched a similar, Britney-themed tribute via Twitter.

Unfortunately, after six months of hype, expectations for Britney/Brittany were high. Catchy Britney...

Glee Finale
‘Glee’ had its big finale last night, and the first season’s curtain call was full of drama, heart, and totally over-the-top musical performances. It’s hard to believe it was just a year ago that Fox aired a one-episode glimpse at the show that would become an iTunes dominating, buzz generating phenomenon. Yet, at the end of it all, we’re right back where we started – about to embark on a year-long Journey to win a singing competition.

'Glee' Goes Gaga : 'Theatricality' Recap

Glee Lady Gaga
Gaga, ooh la la! ‘Theatricality’ takes things to the next level and leaves a big impression. The over-the-top performance numbers and absurd costumes reinforced the intensity of the relationship drama in an episode where one character was so profoundly impacted that her therapist was moving in to her guest room.

“Ms Corcoran, I’m Rachel Berry. I’m your daughter”

After hearing her mother’s voice last week, Rachel now meets her face-to-face. Or face-to-back-of-seat-several-rows-apart, as it were. Prompted by the knowledge that Vocal Adrenaline was preparing a Lady Gaga number for Regionals,...
