Michelle Monaghan has revealed she had a secret brush with cancer after spotting a mole on the back of her calf.

The actress, who played Tom Cruise's love interest in "Mission: Impossible III," was forced by her husband to visit a doctor for a check-up during a vacation in Australia - and she's glad she went.

She tells the November issue of Health magazine, "In Australia, they're very aware of skin cancer. I finally went and it was skin cancer. I had quite the chunk taken out of my leg."

And now Monaghan is very cancer-aware: "I smoked for almost 10 years. I really regret that. Thankfull...

Michelle Monaghan Won First Prize For Hog Wrestling In Iowa

September 26th, 2011 8:41am EDT
Michelle Monaghan
Michelle Monaghan once brought home a first prize ribbon for wrestling a wild hog at a county fair.

The star grew up in the rural town of Winthrop, Iowa, where she and her friends would sign up for the unusual competition each year in a bid to win the hometown honor.

She says, "That was something that was quite popular actually... You're not hurting the hog, no, but at the county fair every year, you'd get a hog pen... and you'd put a hog in the middle with a barrel and you'd have about six inches of mud.

"And you'd get a couple of your girlfriends, I think it was like 12 or 13, and they...

On DVD: 'Source Code' Smart, Original Sci-fi

July 26th, 2011 2:13pm EDT
Gyllenhaal/Monaghan
Sometimes it feels like original ideas are against the rules in Hollywood; most of the movies that get made, even the good ones, are rehashes of the same old ideas. This year’s Best Picture winner, for instance, was a film about an unorthodox therapist who is able to help our protagonist when other therapists have failed. Someone recently pointed out to me, it’s the same basic plot as “Good Will Hunting;” I mentioned that “Mary Poppins” is cut from the same cloth as well. Old ideas rehashed = box office (and Oscar) glory.

Which makes “Source Code,” a movie based around an original ide...

Review: 'Source Code' 'Two Jews On Film' Aren't On The Same Track (Video)

Source Code
'Source Code' directed by Duncan Jones stars Jake Gyllenhall as Captain Colter Stevens, a Blackhawk helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army who one morning wakes with a jolt to find himself on a commuter train heading into Chicago.

Seated opposite Colter is a woman named Christina Warren (Michelle Monaghan) who seems to know him very well. Only trouble is Captain Colter has no idea who this girl is or how he got on the train. The last thing Colter does remember is flying a helicopter mission in Afghanistan. Things get even stranger when he looks in the mirror. The face reflecting back is not...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Source Code,' 'Insidious' & More

March 28th, 2011 9:25am EDT
Source Code
Given the strength of director Zack Snyder’s previous films “300” and “Watchmen,” his first original work “Sucker Punch” is a surprising disappointment. From a visual standpoint the movie is rock solid, with excellent art direction and an intense soundtrack to buttress it.

However Snyder claims that one of the story’s major goals is to comment on the objectification of women, which frankly it fails at in major ways. If you have not done so already, check out further thoughts in my review of “Sucker Punch.”

Arriving in theaters this week are the Jake Gyllenhaal thriller “Source Code,” ...

Review: 'Somewhere' 'Two Jews On Film' Say This Movie Goes Nowhere (Video)

Somewhere-120610-0013.jpg
Johnny Marco (Stephen Dorff) is a divorced, irresponsible super star, roaming aimlessly through life, in Sofia Coppola's new film 'Somewhere'. Johnny is living in West Hollywood's famous Chateau Marmont. An unscheduled visit from his 11 year old daughter (Elle Fanning) requires him to pay attention to her and eventually, question his life and face up to the things every father has to confront. But does he? We watch Johnny drive his Lamborghini through the streets of L.A, going nowhere, in way too many scenes. We watch him eat a hamburger, and play Wii with his daughter. We follow him ...

'Due Date' Review: 'Two Jews On Film' Agree 'Due Date' Is No 'Hangover' (Video)

'Due Date' directed by Todd Phillips (Hangover) stars Robert Downey Jr and Zach Galifianakis as two unlikely companions thrown together on a road trip, that turns out to be as life-changing as it is outrageous. Downey plays Peter Highman, an expectant first time father whose wife's (Michelle Monaghan) due date is only days away. As he hurries to catch a flight home to Los Angeles from Atlanta, his chance encounter with aspiring actor and disaster-magnet Ethan Tremblay (Galifianakis) leads to the two of them being tossed off the plane and placed on a no-fly list. Couples Retreat
Months of waiting for the horror/comedy "Zombieland" were thankfully not spent in vain. Both hilarious and poignant, this film reminds us that even in the post-apocalyptic world that home and family are what you make them.

Narration by the lead character Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) provides a great deal of humor, especially as he expounds upon his rules of survival in the zombie infested world. These rules make frequent appearance on screen during relevant moments, adding additional laughs.

Woody Harrelson is perfect as Tallahassee, the fearless badass with nothing to lose. He's ...

Ever hear the theory that everyone has a twin? Some believe that each and every person has a double somewhere on Earth. Whether that theory is true is debatable. However, it's uncanny how some celebrities resemble each other. Sometimes it's an obvious trait: similar hairstyle, body type or facial features. Other times it's more subtle: similar roles or names.

Whatever the reason, the following stars have something about them that makes them look like another famous somebody. And that's not always a good thing.
