Pop star Nick Lachey is planning to wed again - Jessica Simpson's ex-husband has asked longtime girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo to marry him.

Representatives for the couple have confirmed they are engaged.

A joint statement issued to UsMagazine.com reads, "We're excited and incredibly happy about our engagement and we look forward to a wonderful future together."

The couple started dating in 2006 shortly after Lachey divorced Simpson.

The engagement news comes just days before the couple celebrates joint birthdays - Lachey will turn 37 and Minnillo 30 on November 9.

Lachey, who was once married to pop star Jessica Simpson, parted ways with the brunette TV presenter in June after three years together.
