Alan Ball's Cinemax Action Series 'Banshee' Starts Production In North Carolina

HBO/Cinemax has begun production in and around Charlotte, N.C., on the action series "Banshee", executive produced by Alan Ball, Greg Yaitanes, Peter Macdissi, Jonathan Tropper and David Schickler. Scheduled for 10 hour-long episodes, the show will debut on Cinemax in 2013.

"Banshee" stars Antony Starr ("Rush") as Lucas Hood, an ex-con and master thief who assumes the identity of the sheriff of "Banshee", Pa., where he continues his criminal activities, even as he’s hunted by the shadowy gangsters he betrayed years earlier.

Let me start off by saying I am a huge fan of the Joe Dante original and the groundbreaking effects within it by make-up master Rob Bottin. That aside, the rest of the Howling franchise is a mixed bag of ups and downs to say the least. (Does anyone remember part three titled "The Marsupials?" – what an turd!) Larry the Cable Guy returns for another comic misadventure as a small town sheriff who unwittingly gets involved in a high profile FBI case in Lionsgate's new comedy, Witless Protection.

During a routine day spent patrolling his small town, Larry witnesses a beautiful, high-class woman, Madeleine, being held against her will by four mysterious, black-suited men. Recognizing the opportunity to save the day, Larry "kidnaps" her, only to learn that Madeleine is actually a key witness in a high-stakes Chicago crime case and her captors are FBI agents assigned to protect her.
