Dawson's Creek star James Van Der Beek is a first-time dad after welcoming a daughter over the weekend.

The actor's wife Kimberly Brook gave birth to baby Olivia on Saturday and Van Der Beek announced the news via his Twitter.com page.

In a series of posts, he wrote, "Had the blessing of becoming a father over the weekend... Couldn't come close to describing this bliss even if I had 140 million characters... I apologize in advance for any obnoxiously precious new-dad Tweets that may follow. I'm under her spell..."

Former Dawson's Creek star James Van Der Beek has filed for divorce from his wife Heather McComb five months after the couple split.

The pair wed in Malibu, California in July 2003, parted ways in April and have no children.

Van Der Beek has cited irreconcilable differences in his divorce papers, obtained by TMZ.com.

The former Dawson's Creek actor and actress Heather McComb parted ways in April, according to UsMagazine.com.

The two 32 year olds wed in Malibu, California in July 2003. The ceremony was officiated by Van Der Beek's uncle.
