What To Watch: Summer 2010 TV

May 14th, 2010 10:44am EDT
Summer TV 2010
There used to be a time when summer television was all reruns and special events, like baseball games and the occasional Olympics. Then it became a reality television zone, giving life to such mind-numbingness as CBS’ Big Brother, a show about thirteen insipid individuals put in a house and made to play inane games and “back door” each other for a chance at a half a million dollars. More and more, though, networks are scheduling new shows for the summer block that are quirkier, non-formulaic, and even character driven. What was once a wasteland is fast becoming a haven for smaller, niche sh...

2010 Academy Awards Fashion: Best & Worst

March 8th, 2010 10:54am EST
Oscars 2010 Fashion
There were some definite hits and misses on the red carpet at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards last night. Zoe Salanda and Charlize Theron both opted for purple - Zoe in a Riccardo Tisci ruffled dress and Charlize Theron in a Dior breast-enhancing gown. Miley Cyrus looked quite grown up in a champagne Jennifer Packham ensemble that featured a corset-like top half.

Jennifer Lopez chose an off-white lopsided Armani Prive gown. Cameron Diaz also wore an Armani Prive, but she harkened back to Hollywood glamour in the gold beaded dress. Also opting for beads was Best Actress winner Sandra Bulloc...

Celebrities That Look Great Over The Years

October 14th, 2009 10:29am EDT
celebs that look great over the years
In Hollywood, looking a day over 25 is a liability. And then there are the celebrity faces that have been botoxed to the point that their foreheads have become unnatural plains of shiny, flat skin. The message in Hollywood is clear: young and perky equals good; saggy and old equals bad.

This debasing assessment is generally more applicable to women than it is to men, whose aging process garners descriptions like "sugar daddy," "distinguished grey," and "silver fox." Society bids women to believe that in order to be considered beautiful and desirable, they must be cellulite, sag, and wri...

Sleepaway Camp (1983): It Has A Weirdly Surbersive Gay Vibe

TV Honorees That Don't Deserve Recognition At The Emmy Awards

June 9th, 2009 10:12am EDT
Emmy Awards
Nominations for the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced Thursday, July 16. The Emmy Awards are a bit like the Gold Glove Award in baseball: There's no apparent reason behind the process of selecting recipients, and once you make the short list you're virtually guaranteed a spot for life.

Many blame the Television Academy's awkward way of determining television's best for the pallid variance between what's actually good and what the nomination list purports. Academy members (terribly busy producers, writers, directors and actors) are sent scant screeners by agents representin...
