We'll Miss You 'Dirty Sexy Money'

July 18th, 2009 10:22am EDT
Dirty Sexy Money
Most of America is cutting corners these days - bringing lunch to work, cooking looking for happy hour specials, perusing the sale rack. But if there's one vestige of indulgence left, it is spying on the scandals and seductions of the Darling family of ABC's Dirty Sexy Money, which returns July 18.

The show was canceled in the spring, but the network was kind enough to burn off the remaining episodes, as it has already done this summer with the dearly departed Pushing Daisies and Eli Stone.

In the television landscape of reality competition shows and barely unscripted reality shows, ...

Lucy Liu's Family Embarrassed By Her Fame

July 9th, 2009 11:58am EDT
Lucy Liu
Lucy Liu's family refuses to admit they're related to the star - because they're embarrassed by her fame.

The actress shot to stardom on the TV show Ally McBeal and has since appeared in hit movies including Charlie's Angels, Kill Bill and opposite Keira Knightley in Domino.

However, her older brother and sister, along with her parents, refuse to let anyone know she is part of their family - because they don't want to be judged by her high profile status.

Liu says, "There's always sacrifices. My family don't generally say that they're related to me - my sister doesn't say she's ...

A Viewers Guide To Bad Movies. Really Bad Movies!

June 16th, 2009 10:58am EDT
Troll II
During this year's SxSW festival, a small documentary titled Best Worst Movie premiered to an enthusiastic reception. The film, directed by former child actor Michael Stephenson, follows the production of a small independently financed Italian-cum-American horror film titled Troll 2. Starring no one, and directed by an Italian exploitation film director with a scatter-shot grasp on English and titles like a Terminator knock off titled Terminator 2 under his belt (the title rights were available in Italy), the 1990 film was released direct-to-video and promptly faded from existence. The acto...

Hundreds of mourners flocked to the funeral of David Carradine at the weekend - including former co-stars Lucy Liu, Tom Selleck and Jane Seymour.

Carradine's funeral comes almost two weeks after the actor's naked body was found hanging in a wardrobe of a Bangkok hotel on June 04.

And the late star was obviously popular in Hollywood - more than ...

Best Celebrity Voice Acting Roles

June 12th, 2009 9:22am EDT
Kung Fu Panda
Voice acting is a much more lucrative business than one might imagine, with the actors in question providing their voice for animated movies, video games, television shows, voice overs, and anything else that requires a voice but no face. Some actors do only that kind of work, giving themselves a certain amount of fame in that industry, such as "The Simpsons" cast.

Everything changed when voice acting became a business not only for unknowns, but also an attractive fad for celebrities who wanted to broaden their horizons ... or make a movie "for the kids." Now it seems that no animated...

McG: No More 'Charlie's Angels'

May 20th, 2009 11:29am EDT
McG
McG will never direct another Charlie's Angels movie - because he wants to concentrate on establishing himself as a sci-fi film-maker.

McG was at the helm of the 2000 big screen version of the classic TV series, starring Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu, and returned to direct the sequel, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, in 2003.

Barrymore confirmed earlier this year that the three angels are set to reprise their roles for another film.

But McG won't be taking to the director's chair for the third picture, as he is keen to focus on more male dominated movies - such a...

Before you drown your all-my-heroes-are-geezers sorrows in Chivas and Cuban cigars, remember: You should never doubt Hef. Will 'The Dark Knight' Need Darker Villians For Future Films?

July 17th, 2008 9:20am EDT
The Dark Knight
Purple suit, caked-white face, delirious, hand-in-the-cookie-jar grin: the Joker. In 1989's Batman, Jack Nicholson played the role as a coked out 'toon far past loony, at ease in the company of rapists or ravers. In 2008's The Dark Knight, Heath Ledger plays the role like a congenitally hallucinogenic child tight roping over hellfire, dragging behind him the world like limp teddy bear. The newer version is obviously a dark turn for a character with such a light-hearted name, but, so it seems, the entire Batman franchise has taken a dark turn since Batman Begins. In honor of Ledger's, not t...

The Best & Worst Films By Quentin Tarantino

April 24th, 2008 8:30am EDT
Quentin Tarantino
The serendipitous career of eccentric movie producer, director and writer Quentin Tarantino is a complex one. Tarantino has made a name for himself by creating nonlinear storylines and filming multiple perspectives from different characters in his movies - a technique that strays from the more commonly used straight-time storyline.

His films are not off the wall, but they invoke an element of surprise that comes from the small details within a scene that catches one off guard and by adding mysterious elements that never get explained. A good example of this was in Pulp Fiction when M...

Movies With Heart: The 100 Best 'Romdramedies' Of The Past 20 Years

April 17th, 2008 8:00am EDT
Clueless
There's the quintessential romantic comedy, and then there's the romdramedy. Similar to a dramedy (in which there is an equal balance of humor and serious content), a romdramedy combines comedy and drama with that mushy thing we call romance.

This is not a list of the best films over the past 20 years. Rather it is a list that gives preferences to those films that best combine all three elements - romance, comedy and drama.

Films like Magnolia and The Matrix were barred from competition, while films like Down with Love were considered (however, that one didn't make the cut)....

Juliet (Miranda Otto) and Davis (Peter Hermann) began their not-so-civil divorce proceedings. The episode flitted between him taking everything from her and her reacting with disbelief. He expects to take all of the earnings that he brought to their marriage, along with a monthly stipend, or "manimony" as Juliet's lawyer refers to it. He then proceeds to go to the apartment while she's not home and...

'Cashmere Mafia' Is Getting Really Old, Really Fast

February 7th, 2008 11:13am EST
Cashmere Mafia
Ok, let's decide which was worse on the last episode of "Cashmere Mafia": the fact that Mia (Lucy Liu) made out with a "manny" who looks like a high school student, or the weirdness of Caitlin's (Bonnie Somerville) girlfriend telling her that she's pregnant? Or maybe it's the simple boringness of the entire episode. I just can't pick; they all make me either want to yawn or make my "ew, gross" face.

ZOE

Zoe (Frances O'Connor) and Eric's (Julian Ovenden) whole part of this show is SO boring, it's ridiculous. The only thing they seem to be able to come up with for these two is a tug...

Lipstick Jungle, which stars Brooke Shields, Kim Raver and Lindsay Price and is also set in New York, is an adaptation of Sex And The City writer Candace Bushnell's book of the same name.
