In 2000, Evangeline Lilly was "discovered" in the streets of British Columbia by the famous Ford modeling agency, but she decided instead to pursue her dream of working in international relations. Six months later, she took the offer to pay for her college tuition. She then appeared in a few commercials but decided to give up on acting.

A few years later, a friend urged her to give it another shot, and Lilly landed a couple of nonspeaking roles in the TV miniseries Stephen King's Kingdom Hospital and the film The Long Weekend. She has also had tiny parts on the TV programs Tru Calling, Dead Like Me, and Smallville, as well as the films White Chicks, The Chronicles of Riddick, Stealing Sinatra, and Freddy vs. Jason.

Lilly's breakthrough role was the part of Kate on ABC's supernatural drama Lost. Part of a large ensemble cast, Lilly helped rejuvenate the struggling network with her natural talents and charm. Born in Fort Saskatchewan on Aug. 3, 1979, the actress is fluent in French and enjoys several sports, including ice skating, canoeing, kayaking, snowboarding, and rock climbing.

Discovered by a modeling agent in her native Canada, Evangeline Lilly ultimately passed on the catwalk and opted for an acting career. After working briefly as an extra, she was plucked from obscurity and cast as ex-con Kate Austen on ABC's hit island drama Lost. In 2007, she received a Golden Globe nomination for her work on the show. Matthew Tobey, All Movie Guide
