Bank of America launched the "SafeBalance" account last week, which costs $4.95/month & has no paper checks. The big selling point: It won't let you overdraw your account. Think it's worth it?

How much $ would you be willing to pay to keep your online information actually private? More & more start-ups are betting customers will pay at least something to keep data away from prying eyes. This will be part of many privacy related topics discussed at SXSWi this year, including WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange & Edward Snowden (via video stream) as speakers.

Eeeek! British intelligence service GCHQ (w/NSA help) intercepted images from millions of Internet users' webcam chats. Images were taken (1 every 5 min of conversation) and stored in databases: Discuss.
(Also, is it time we keep sticky notes over our webcams at all times? Creepy.)

The new Adidas graphic tees for the World Cup didn’t make host country Brazil too happy, with the president of Brazil’s Tourism Agency responding to the designs by saying: “Sexual exploitation is an unacceptable crime and cannot be confused in any way with any kind of tourism. We want to make it clear to our major trading partners in tourism that Brazil does not tolerate this type of crime in its territory.” See the shirts here: http://nlap.in/1kcBsQm

In 1984, it cost $10,000/year to go to Duke University. Today, it’s $60,000/year. Duke's executive vice provost Jim Roberts calls it a deal, saying "We're investing on average about $90,000 in the education of each student."
An NPR breakdown says that '$8,000 of the $90,000 Duke spends on each student goes into building and maintaining physical infrastructure on campus. Another $14,000 goes to pay a share of administrative and academic support salaries, which in Duke’s case includes more than $1 million in total compensation to the university president.'
Worth the $? Or is calling it 'a deal' just crazy?
