Nathalie Kay Hedren was born on Jan. 19, 1930, in the German-Bohemian community of New Ulm, MN. Hedren's paternal grandparents had immigrated to the United States from Sweden and her father, Bernard Carl Hedren, ran a general store in the family's hometown of Lafayette.
