'The Good Wife' 5.1: Capital Punishment And Politicians' Daughters

October 3rd, 2013 8:28am EDT
The Good Wife
A superb start to the new season 5 of The Good Wife on Sunday night, with an episode that was both as serious as it gets and laughing out loud funny.

First the funniest part, about a web site featuring politicians' hot daughters, with photos - primarily head shots and captions - including Gracie Florrick. Also up on the site are Abby Huntsman (good publicity for The Cycle), Bristol Palin, and Meghan McCain.   Abby is appropriately at the top of this list, and the whole bit typifies the mixture of real and fictional which The Good Wife does so well.

This gets us to the serious part, and th...

May 1st, 2009 10:06am EDT
Star Trek
Since the dawn of the American cinematic blockbuster in the late 1970s and early 1980s, moviegoers have eagerly waited for May - the unofficial beginning of summertime. This summer is no different. Films, and most popular media, are social mirrors, and this summer season supports that. The large box office contenders all deal with very similar themes: escapism and the support of the lone, outlaw hero figure (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, Up, Transformers 2, Public Enemies, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, Inglourious Basterds, et...

March 21st, 2008 9:06am EDT
In Treatment
In Treatment, the powerful HBO series, stars Gabriel Byrne as Dr. Paul Westin, a middle-aged therapist who runs a practice out of his home, and it's probably the best thing on television. Although the series is nearing the end of its first season, it's something you should watch on demand, next season, or if and when there is a DVD release.

There are no car chases. There are no scenes at the 'Bing with strippers on poles perved on by older, Italian Americans. There are no sex scenes or ones with Sharon Stone crossing her legs with the guy who played Newman on Seinfeld squirming in h...

Brazil Tourism Board: 'Turistas' Is a Fictional Story

December 2nd, 2006 4:57pm EST
Brazilian tourist officials are employing a little damage control after watching screenings of new horror film Turistas, which focuses of a group of U.S. holidaymakers stranded in the rainforest. The film, which was shot on location in Brazil and stars Melissa George and Josh Duhamel as backpacking surfers, suggests the South American country is far from vacation perfect.

The holidaymakers are drugged and robbed by locals and then find themselves trying to escape from a mad doctor determined to remove their organs. And tourist bosses only hope filmgoers realize the movie is fictional.
