Ava Gardner ranks as one of the greatest beauties in Hollywood history. Miss Gardner was groomed by MGM in its heyday the biggeat and greatest and most influential of all studios. Ava Gardner was like her glamour girl peers Lana Turner and Kim Novak a much better actress than initially credited. Gardner worked with fine stars such as Clark Gable, Burt Lancaster, David Niven, Charlton Heston, Robert Walker, Richard Burton, Kirk Douglas, and Gregory Peck among many others. Gardner was also cast in movies with some her great lady star peers of her day such as Susan Hayward,Grace Kelly, and Deborah Kerr. It is hard to find a bad performance in any of Ava Gardner's films. Top Directors such as John Ford thought Ava Gardner a fine actress. Ms. Gardner was a favorite of director John Huston who cast her in several of his films most notably "Night of the Iguana" at MGM with Deborah Kerr, Richard Burton and Sue Lyon. One of my favorite Gardner movies is "55 Days at Peking" with David Niven and Charlton Heston. Ava Gardner turned down the role of Mrs. Robinson in Mike Nichols "The Graduate" saying 'I strip for no one'. No bio of Gardner would be complete without mentioning her relationship and stormy marriage to Frank Sinatra. While they battled and divorced, they were said to be the great loves of each others lives. Sinatra was desconsolate when learning of Ava Gardner's death and put out a statement that "Ava was a great Lady and her passing is very painful" | ||
