Academy Award Winner Joan Fontaine is the younger sister of the equally famous Olivia De Havilland. Joan Fontaine's career began in the 1930's but became a major International star in David Selznick's Oscar Winning Film"Rebecca" with Laurence Olivier and Directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Several hits followed including her Oscar winning performance in "Suspicion". Fontaine and DeHavilland have engaged in a long term life-long feud. They are now both aged Women and the only Sisters pair in History to be Oscar winners. Miss Fontaine's classic beautiful look allowed her to make some fine movies in the 1940's and 1950's with such stars as Elizabeth Taylor, Cary Grant and Bob Hope. Joan Fontaine's movie career basically ended with two 20th Century Fox films one "Tender Is The Night" in a suporting role to another Oscar Winner Jennifer Jones,and "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea" with Walter Pidgeon. After her movie career ended Fontaine took roles in Summer Stock and on TV. Without pretense, Joan Fontaine regarded them as solid jobs and adjusted to Her new career with the same professionalism she approached her movie career. Fontaine like Jennifer Jones, Merle Oberon Greer Garson and was active in Cafe Society Now 90, Fontaine lives in Carmel and has kept a low profile for many years. Rather than go on the talk show circuit talking about the years of high stardom she prefers to let her work speak for itself. Her autobiography is called "No Bed of Roses" | ||
