10 Celebrities You May Not Know Are Scientologists

July 8th, 2012 1:00pm EDT
Sofia Milos
It's widely known that Tom Cruise, John Travolta, his wife Kelly Preston and Kirstie Alley are scientologists. Cruise is going through a very public divorce with actress Katie Holmes, and it is allegedly due to his ties with the religion.

Twelve years ago, Travolta made the film "Battlefield Earth," a film adapted from the novel by Ron L. Hubbard, the founder of Scientology.

In 2010 on Larry King Live, Alley said her religion helped her with weight loss, considering she'd only been fat three or four years of her life. "God knows where I'd be if I hadn't changed the things I have changed,"...

'Two And A Half Men' – Life Without Charlie – Season Premiere Recap

September 20th, 2011 8:57am EDT
Two And A Half Men
If you tuned into the season premiere of "Two And A Half Men" last night expecting one last glimpse of Charlie Harper, you were sadly disappointed. Rather, you were treated to an array of guest stars, and Charlie’s replacement, Ashton Kutcher, as Walden Schmidt, a hairy, gangly innocent, who apparently is “hung like an elephant.” Oh dear. It’s never a good sign when a show chooses casual nudity over clever, biting repartee. By offering up Kutcher as a classic ‘himbo’ over Charlie Sheen’s cynical roué, the show has drawn a line in the sand. Sadly, there may not be many who wish to step over...

September 4th, 2009 9:06am EDT
Accidentally on Purpose
Accidentally on Purpose creator Claudia Lonow describes her new fall show, a comedy based on a memoir of the same name by Mary F. Pols, as being an unconventional romantic comedy. Jenna Elfman's character is a 30-something - well actually 37 as the pilot is quick to constantly point out - newspaper woman who gets pregnant after a one-night stand with a 20-something (the adorable Jon Foster) who lives in his van. From there, the two move in together because the guy is determined to do what he can to be a good dad, despite being scared to death and not really having a frame of reference on ho...

Jenna Elfman
In 1997, Dharma & Greg launched Jenna Elfman to stardom. A movie career and syndication followed. Now it's time to try again. After some TV guest spots and short-lived projects that didn't quite go all the way, Elfman thinks she's found a winner with the new CBS sitcom Accidentally on Purpose.

"I love comedy so much and I was bound and determined to find another great show," Elfman said. "I count my blessings every day because it's been quite a challenging last four or five years of my life. I have been doing nothing but trying to find another show to do on television that makes me hap...

Michael Cudlitz Discusses Tonight's 'Southland' Season Finale

When Michael Cudlitz and I last spoke, back in April, I used some, well, (ahem) colorful language during an interview junket -- a junket that everyone but me thought was on live local television -- to describe his character on Southland, Officer John Cooper. We finally get a chance to go one-on-one and clear the air over that moment and, more importantly, discuss tonight's season finale of Southland (airing at 10 pm ET on NBC) along with his experience on Band of Brothers and working with John Cusack in Grosse Point Blank.

So, have you seen this year's comedy about an overweight, overzealous, loser-y mall cop who takes his job way too seriously and is hopelessly in love with a fellow shopping center employee? If you're not sure whether I'm referring to January's hit Paul Blart: Mall Cop or the newest Seth Rogen comedy Observe and Report (in theaters now), don't be too hard on yourself: Both flicks have eerily similar plotlines. This isn't the first time two films with the same subject matter have been released within a year of one another; Hollywood has a talent for redundancy (see: recycling and ripping off)...

What Killed 'Jezebel James': The Timeslot, Laughtrack & Parker Posey

March 26th, 2008 9:24am EDT
Jezebel James
I suppose Jezebel James only wanted to stay for a short return. After a mere three episodes, and ratings that made "Arrested Development" look like "American Idol," FOX dropped the ax on what was once its hotly-anticipated sitcom "Jezebel James."

At the network up fronts back in May 2007, "James" was highly lauded and seen by FOX as a potential tent-pole sitcom around which an entire evening of programming could be built. It seemed like a surefire hit when the series received a full 13-episode order right off the bat and was slated to debut in the coveted timeslot following "American ...

Lights, Camera, Scientology?

With a ban in Germany on the horizon, scientology has come under severe media scrutiny and public debate in recent years. Ever since Tom Cruise defamed Brooke Shields during post-partum-depression-gate '07, the quasi-religion has been a heated topic. It's been called an oppressive cult. A money-guzzler. A fraud. And it has something to do with an ancient alien named Xenu. So why do so many public faces flock to the Scientology church's doors?

John Travolta, Jenna Elfman, Katie Holmes, Kirstie Alley, Jason Lee and Isaac Hayes are all reported Scientologists. For most of them, their beli...
