Justin Timberlake The Next 'American Idol' Judge?

7/27/2010 9:21pm EDT
Justin Timberlake-SPX-030590.jpg
Pop star Justin Timberlake is the latest celebrity name to emerge as a potential contender for Simon Cowell's vacant judging seat on American Idol.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the SexyBack hitmaker has joined Elton John, Chris Isaak and Harry Connick Jr. as rumored replacements for Cowell. The former Idol judge quit the show in May to focus on his new U.S. series The X Factor, which premieres in September, 2011.

Reports suggest Idol producer Simon Fuller and Fox network executives are also considering dumping the entire judges panel - which would mean booting songwriter Kara DioG...

Carrie Underwood's Dream Wedding - Exclusive Photos Only In This Week's 'People'

7/15/2010 6:06pm EDT
Carrie Underwood
This week's issue of PEOPLE features exclusive photos of country star Carrie Underwood's pink-hued fantasy wedding to Canadian pro hockey player Mike Fisher at the Ritz-Carlton Reynolds Plantation resort in Georgia last weekend. Surrounded by friends and family (and her dog, Ace, dressed in a Swarovski crystal-encrusted pink tuxedo), the former American Idol finalist, 27, wore a Chantilly lace and silk organza Monique Lhuillier gown and dazzling tiara made of more than 40 carats of diamonds (a wedding gift from the groom) while exchanging vows with the Ottawa Senators center, 30, beneath an...

Adam Lambert Has Rock Star Arms

7/10/2010 9:06am EDT
Adam Lambert
"American Idol" star Adam Lambert performed and did a radio interview at 107.5 The River in Nashville this week, and we think he needs to work out a little bit. He's proud of his new tattoo, but he needs to bulk up those arms, don't you think?

Adam put himself in the running as a replacement for Simon Cowell on the hit singing competition, but it doesn't seem like anyone is backing him up. Simon told OK! magazine, "I wouldn't be surprised if it was Harry Connick, Jr. He was a great mentor when he was on, and he knows music."

Kara DioGuardi is also supporting Harry as a new judge. She ex...

Kara DioGuardi Wants Harry Connick Jr., Not Bret Michaels, To Replace Simon Cowell

6/30/2010 8:51am EDT
Kara DioGuardi
"American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi is voting for Harry Connick, Jr. to replace Simon Cowell as her sidekick on the talent show.

The crooner jumped to the top of the favorites list after he mentored the finalists for an episode on the latest season of the show - and songwriter DioGuardi insists he'd be the perfect for the role.

She says, "The way that he worked with the contestants, he really cared about them. I thought he was really, really great."

Cowell quit the show last month and Connick, Jr., Bret Michaels and former "Idol" star Adam Lambert have emerged as frontrunners to take hi...

Bret Michaels To Meet With 'American Idol' Producers And Discuss Replacing Simon Cowell

6/28/2010 10:30pm EDT
Bret Michaels and Simon Cowell
Rocker Bret Michaels has revealed he is in talks with "American Idol" bosses about possibly replacing Simon Cowell as a judge on the show.

The Poison singer made his first live appearance after his recent brain hemorrhage and mild stroke on the talent show's finale and rumors have been rife ever since that he's the man to take over Cowell's chair.

And now he admits he's planning to meet with producers to discuss the idea.

He tells, "We have a meeting in L.A. in a couple weeks and we're going to sit down and talk. They did a poll and I think it was Madonna, P. Diddy, Howard Ste...

american Idol Season 10
Entering its 10th Season, and for the first time without creator and host Simon Cowell, FOX issued a press release with cities and dates for American Idol Auditions. Good news if you are 15 year olds but if you're 29 or older you're still left out. "In celebration of the momentous 10th anniversary and in an effort to continue to find the best undiscovered talent in the nation, AMERICAN IDOL is expanding the eligibility age range for the first time ever to include hopefuls from 15 to 28 years old." (The previous minimum age requirement was 16), states the press release.

Tons Of Stars Heat Up The Red Carpet At The CMT Music Awards (Photos)

6/10/2010 8:56am EDT
CMT Awards
A bunch of celebrities, including Snooki from "Jersey Shore" and "Dancing With The Stars" runner-up Erin Andrews, attended last night's CMT Music Awards in Nashville. Carrie Underwood was named country queen and received two trophies, while Miranda Lambert won Female Video of the Year for White Liar.(Check out the full list of winners here!)

Most of the ladies on the red carpet wore short dresses, showing off their legs. While metallics dominated the MTV Movie Awards last Sunday, it wasn't the case at the CMT awards. It was a rainbow of colors as the stars wore pink, yellow, blue, turqu...

Paula Abdul's Bizarre Speech On 'American Idol' Finale (Video)

5/27/2010 2:13pm EDT
Paula Abdul American Idol Finale
Paula Abdul's return to American Idol for the finale of the season - and Simon Cowell's last show - was supposed to be a heartfelt send-off for the long-time judge. But things quickly turned odd as Abdul started her own brand of comedy.

She first started with what sounded like a goodbye scrawled in a High School yearbook: "Thank you everyone. Thank you so much. It’s fantastic being here tonight. I really miss everyone. Hello judges! Randy: You look charming tonight. It’s great seeing you. Hi Ellen: I love you. Wanna dance? Kara: You look beautiful tonight. Where’s Ryan? Ryan: Wherever you ...

'American Idol' Recap: Crystal Blows Out Lee While Simon Gives His Final Criticism

5/26/2010 9:16am EDT
Crystal Blows Out Lee While Simon Gives His Final Criticism
All right kids. It’s game time. “Idol” finals. And even though this season was lackluster to say the least, I’m still a bit excited. So let’s go to the tale of the tape:

In one corner we have Lee Dewyze. The former paint store employee and master of the one move – to imitate the lead singer of 3 Doors Down. What he lacks in stage presence he makes up for in his ability to make young girls have a crush on him. He hasn’t been great this year, but he’s been better than most of the lame competition he’s faced. Well, all except for Lilly.

In the second corner we have Crystal Bowersox –...

'American Idol' Recap: Casey Goes Home On Homecoming Night

5/20/2010 9:18am EDT
Casey James Sent Home
On Tuesday I completely lost faith in “American Idol”.

It wasn’t hard to do. When we watch the producers, judges and everyone else involved clearly favoring two contestants with enhanced production values and raves entirely without base, it’s only natural to become a bit jaded about the real purpose of this show.

Then there are nights like last night which reaffirm what makes this show great – how, like how they do it or not, “Idol” plucks people out of obscurity and makes their dreams come true.

The journey home episode always hammers this aspect of the show home. While these contesta...

'American Idol' Recap: The Judges Make Their Favorites Clear

5/19/2010 9:50am EDT
AI Final 3 perform
It’s judges’ choice night on “Idol” and you know what that means: Judges irrationally supporting whomever they chose a song for.

Actually, last night it was more than that. It went far beyond the judges’ giving high marks only to validate their song selections and into something that almost seemed like collusion. Never before was it more apparent who the judges were trying to stick in the finale, and never before did that seem less deserved than the undeserved praise we saw reigned last night.

So who were the lucky two? Well, you can probably guess, but read on to find out.

Random Tho...

Blech! Kara DioGuardi's Metallic Muumuu-Like Dress & Black Leggings

5/19/2010 9:38am EDT
Kara DioGuardi
According to, a "moo moo" is a "big-ass night gown or dress that big-ol's wear." Wikipedia says a "muumuu" is a loose dress of Hawaiian origin that is worn by pregnant women and obese people because they don't restrict the waist.

Now, Kara Dioguardi is anything but obese, and we don't think she's pregnant. So why would she choose to wear this ensemble at the Fox upfront after party in New York City last night?

We wonder what Kara's "American Idol" crush Casey James would think of her outfit?

See more photos of Kara here!

'American Idol' Recap: Big Mike Goes Home

5/13/2010 9:24am EDT
Big Mike Sent Home
What do a superstar modern rocker, a VH1 reality show star, and Bon Jovi have in common? They all performed on last night's "American Idol" results show that's what. And only one of them stunk. Read on to find how who it is as we say goodbye to Big Mike.

The Results

There's not a whole lot to say about Big Mike's exit. Certainly it was very predictable (even I got it right!) and it's not like it hasn't happened before, but it's sad all the same.

I felt like Mike was the only thing truly different left on this show since Siobahn's exit. While the rest are decidedly mainstream (as muc...

'American Idol' Recap: Duets Are Great, Solo Performances Fall Flat On Movie Night

5/12/2010 9:25am EDT
American Idol
By now we all know this season of "American Idol" is a dud, and a few duets aren't going to save it.

But rather than belabor the point or add another column to the substantial list about how "Idol" may have officially gone over the hill this season (Last week's ratings were its lowest since season 1!) I'm going to give you chance to make a difference.

If you follow this link, you'll be taken to a survey where you can evaluate the season. This survey supposedly goes straight to the producers which means you could improve the show for next year which means we'll never have to suffer this t...

Lady Gaga Takes 'Alejandro' To The 'American Idol' Stage (Video)

5/6/2010 1:42pm EDT
Lady Gaga American Idol
Lady Gaga hit the stage on last night's "American Idol," decked in a black fishnet body stocking, for a fiery performance of her spicy new hit "Alejandro" complete with an extended intro piano rendition of "Bad Romance."

While only an edited version aired on Idol, you can download the FULL, unedited six and a half minute video on iTunes and wach the stellar performance just as Gaga intended.

Lady Gaga, who announced her Idol performance herself via Twitter, shot the upcoming video for "Alejandro" in Los Angeles last week. Stay tuned for details on the premiere.

Lady Gaga's "The Fame Mon...

'American Idol' Recap: Aaron Leaves, Lada Gaga Underwhelms, And Harry Connick, Jr. Rocks

5/6/2010 9:33am EDT
Aaron Kelly sings his farewell
Lady Gaga, Harry Connick, Jr. and Ill-Fitting Tuxedos! Sounds like another Idol results show to me. Let’s get on with it shall we?

The Results

I can’t help but think this Aaron elimination came one week too late. It seems like it happens every year – we have a final four (or five) picked out and wait for that showdown, but it never quite shakes out that way. There’s always one who sticks around a little too long, and this year it was Aaron.

Let’s face it. Aaron had a zero-percent chance of winning this thing. He’s got about the fourth-best voice remaining and easily the worst sta...

'American Idol' Recap: Only Two Idols Shine On Sinatra Night

5/5/2010 9:43am EDT
American Idol Sinatra Night
This is one of those theme nights I just don’t understand.

What have we heard from the judges all year? Be it Katie’s old-school vocals, Siobahn’s strange operatic voice, or Aaron’s wholesomeness – the judges have been harping on it all year: Be current. Find a way to make the song new, to make yourself new. That’s been the main comment from the fearsome foursome all season long.

And now, we get. . .Frank Sinatra night? After months of caterwauling about currency, the judges decide to throw the contestants the songs of a singer that peaked in the late 40s.

It’s very reminiscent of two...

'American Idol' Recap: Siobahn Goes Home As Shakira Rocks The House

4/29/2010 9:14am EDT
Siobahn Goes Home as Shakira Rocks the House
Time to try something new with The Results Show Recap. Rather than force you to read paragraph after paragraph of my ramblings to find me express confusion over who these people are that are singing the number one song in the country or my thoughts on that week’s castaway, we’re breaking it down into three easily digestable sections for your reading pleasure. Ending, as always, with The Idol Power Rankings.

The Results

Well, my last remaining favorite contestant this year bites the dust in her first trip to the bottom three. It’s not really hard to figure – with those tattoos, piercin...

'American Idol' Recap: Shania Twain Gives Us The Best Night Of The Season So Far

4/28/2010 9:28am EDT
Casey James American Idol
All season we’ve been waiting for an episode like the one we got last night. And who knew we’d get it from Shania Twain’s catalog?

Country night appeared to have doom written all over it. After all, this is a competition composed of a soul singer, a rocker, a folky, a blues man, a freaky opera singer and Ed Grimley. Not exactly the recipe for down home success.

But you know what? Sometimes strange combinations can yield the most delightful results. Or at least results that were far more compelling than anything we’ve seen so far this season.

Random Thoughts Waiting for the Actual Show...

'American Idol' Recap: Tim Says Goodbye On Idol Gives Back Night

4/22/2010 9:32am EDT
Tim Urban (C) is eliminated from the competition on IDOL GIVES B
I just can’t be snarky on “Idol Gives Back” night. There’s just no way to mock anything that’s for a good cause. So you’ll have to forgive my relatively straightforward recap.

Of course, there were many performances tonight, and may fell flat. Particularly the Jonah Hill/Russell Brand Phone Bank sketch. There were more awkward silences and nervous bouts of laughter than you’d find on a bad first date.

We also saw the Black Eyed Peas continue to make us wonder why they are so popular and the Lopez/Sykes comedy duo prove that Fox and TBS made the right moves by wooing Conan. Then there...

Recap: Even With Alicia Keys, Speedy 'American Idol' Show Fails To Inspire

4/21/2010 9:26am EDT
American Idol
It’s the first hourlong American Idol episode. And you know what that means, time for ninety-second performances where the contestants have no chance to build to any sort of climax or show what they can do. Oh joy!

In honor of this ridiculous night, let’s rush through the intro and get straight to the recap.

Random Thoughts Waiting for the Actual Show To Start:

A nice sped-through introduction from Ryan. I imagine we’ll be seeing plenty of this expedience as they attempt to shove seven performances in 44 minutes. . .er. . .one hour.

I think Alicia Keys is great, but did she ...

Kara Dioguardi And Others Pose Nude For 'Allure' (Video)

4/14/2010 10:30am EDT
Kara Dioguardi, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Jessica Capshaw, and Colbie Caillat posed for Allure's "Nude" issue, baring all in their photos and talking about their bodies.

Dioguardi struggled with depression and binge eating in her early 20s. She says: "Back then I was a size 6 or 8; now I'm more like a size 2. Food is not what I use to anesthetize myself anymore... This shoot was less about beauty than about taking a risk and showing people a side of me they never have seen"

"Some women want bigger breasts," said the Entourage actress Emmanuelle Chriqui. "But [I wish] I could have had a dancer's...

'American Idol' Recap: Adam Lambert Is Back For Elvis Night

4/14/2010 9:40am EDT
Adam Lambert Is Back For Elvis Night
If you can’t do better, just do it all over again.

Last night smacked of desperation in the land of “Idol” as the producers reached all the way back to last year for their mentor, choosing Adam Lambert to mentor the hopefuls on. . .how to finish second?

Yes, Adam Lambert may not have won, but he was certainly the most memorable contestant from last year so it’s no surprise the producers would attempt to recapture some of the glory of last season by bringing him back almost immediately to mentor the contestants. When a season falls flat, I guess it’s best simply to pretend last year never...

'American Idol' Recap: The Judges Save Big Mike From Exile & Power Rankings

4/8/2010 9:55am EDT
Rihanna American Idol
Many, many, many times Ryan tells us the results of the show will be shocking, and finally Seacrest’s hype is absolutely spot on. Big Mike getting the boot? Not so fast.

I’ve always been a fan of the judge’s save. I think it adds a great sense of drama to the show. It’s much better to see them singing with a sense of purpose at the end of the show, rather than just a flat ode of farewell. The other reason the save is a great idea? Moments like tonight.

I’m not sure what America was thinking, but Big Mike is the best competitor left in the show. Despite that, he couldn’t outlast the ...

'American Idol' Recap: The Idols Improve With Lennon And McCartney

4/7/2010 9:42am EDT
The Idols Improve With Lennon and McCartney
There’s something I’ve noticed about this season of ‘American Idol’: A lot of cringes.

Those cringes come whenever we see who’s coming up next. Like in this scenario: Ryan says, “Up next it’s Casey James”. Instantly, there’s a shudder as we think of the boring mess he’s about to give us.

This feeling of unease goes pretty much down the line. Be it Tim, Katie, Aaron or Andrew, there are so many contestants whose impending performance is something you’d rather not see.

But tonight, many of those shudders were unfounded as a lot of the former bottom dwellers raised their game, turning in...

'American Idol' Recap: Another Mediocre Night As Top Ten Tackle R&B

3/31/2010 8:38am EDT
American Idol Usher - R&B Night
It sucks. That’s pretty much the prevailing opinion regarding this season. And you know what? For the most part, everybody’s right. This crop of contestants isn’t nearly as good as any of the previous seasons’ casts. Well, except for season six.

Yet, when you read my recaps, you probably wouldn’t know that. It seems I’ve been giving out as many “A”s as I ever have. This despite the fact that nobody in this year’s cast would have made last season’s final five (Though Lilly could have won on any season).

So how did this happen? It’s simple, and something I realized this week – I’ve been...

'American Idol's' Crystal Bowersox: The One to Beat?

3/29/2010 11:28am EDT
Crystal Bowersox, the current American Idol frontrunner, gave fans a scare the second week in the semi-final rounds, as she was rushed to the hospital due to diabetes complications. Needless to say, Bowersox bounced back quickly, showing fans that she’s in it to win it. And if her latest performances say anything, they’re telling us that she’s unquestionably the one to beat.

Last week, the indie-folk 24-year-old single mother gave one of the more memorable performances on this season’s "Idol" to date – a rendition of Janis Joplin’s Me and Bobby McGee. Though not a complete knock-off of Jop...

'American Idol' Recap: Paige Checks Out, Miley Cyrus' Head Banging & Power Rankings

3/25/2010 8:12am EDT
American Idol
After weeks of inexplicable voting, America finally gets it right.

That comes with a caveat, though. America certainly voted off the worst peformer on American Idol. . .from last night. Paige was undoubtedly the worst singer on Billboard #1 week, but she was actually one of the best overall, as evidenced by her fiery rendition of “All Right Now” to close the show. That was a performance that would have done well in the final four.

Oh well, I can’t say I’m disappointed. After all, the alternative in the bottom two was Tim – and I can’t let such an easy target go home that quickly. Oth...

'American Idol' Recap: An Off Night As The Idols Sing Chart-Toppers

3/24/2010 9:03am EDT
American Idol
It’s become quite common this season on "American Idol" to make the show all about the judges.

And why not – with the premature departures of Lilly, Alex Lambert and Katelyn Epperly, there’s not really a whole lot of contestants that are worth discussing. Plus, with the new addition of Ellen and Simon’s impending departure – the judges are ripe for discussing. Nothing surprising about the discourse, what is surprising is the prevailing opinion.

This has nothing to do with Ellen (correctly pegged as worthless) or Randy (what is there really left to say about him?), but with the way criti...

Carrie Underwood Talks Acting Career, Engagement Ring And 'American Idol' (Video)

3/18/2010 10:46pm EDT
Carrie Underwood
When asked about the engagement ring that Ottawa Senators center Mike Fisher put on her finger last December, Carrie Underwood tells the latest issue of Allure Magazine the he "could've put a twisty-tie on my finger and that would've worked."

In the issue, she also talks about her time on "American Idol" and the resulting fame; and she recently revealed that she gets offered alot of movie roles, but isn't in any rush to cross over to acting.

"I get scripts in all the time," she says. "It would really have to be the right thing. I'm not going to kid myself and pretend that I'm an actress, ...
