Top Ten Memorable 'Movie Moms'

Mother poster
Like ‘em, love 'em or hate ‘em, everyone has a mother. The person who carried us for nine months, mended our boo-boos and smothered us with so much love that sometimes it felt like a woolen blanket on an extra hot day. (Wait, maybe that was just mine - kidding mom!) In any case Mother’s Day is coming up on May 8 and Starpulse thought it only respectful to pay a little cinematic love to the ladies who first gave us life. So here is an ever-eclectic list of the funniest, toughest, scariest, strangest and downright quirkiest caregivers to ever grace the silver screen – it’s our...Top Ten M...

What Can We Expect To See In Season 4 Of 'Californication'?

1/6/2011 10:29am EST
Californication Season 4
So, “Californication” is returning soon, and everyone’s favorite blind-in-one-eye leading man David Duchovny reprises his role as the perpetually creatively-blocked novelist Hank Moody. And I bet you real money he’s going to be having sex with people this season. Lots of sex. That he’ll feel bad about later.

Actually, that’s the entirety of “Californication.” Hank Moody has sex, feels bad about it later, then does it again. But gosh if he isn’t just so darn loveable.

I know the show is about that cycle. I know the show is supposed to be about how Hank Moody is a sex addict, and how he’s t...

Glenn Close Disgusted By Inclusion In Lewd Navy Video

1/5/2011 9:45am EST
Glenn Close
Glenn Close is furious after footage of her visiting an aircraft carrier ended up in a series of lewd videos by a disgraced Navy Captain - and she insisted she's "distraught" over her inclusion in the clips.

The "Fatal Attraction" star is seen in a string of films made by Captain Owen Honors of the USS Enterprise, one of America's premiere aircraft carriers.

The video, which Honors claims he made to boost Navy officers' morale, shows young women showering, overweight men in bikinis and jokes about proctology exams, while Close is seen in a montage at the end of the clip wearing a Navy hat...

Starpulse Is Movie Obsessed

12/3/2010 10:59pm EST
Obsession can come in many forms; one can become fixated with an individual, an object or a feeling. At Starpulse, we are obsessed with Glee, Brangelina, Suri Cruise, anything Martin Scorsese and of course The Beiber. In honor of Black Swan's opening weekend, a movie that centers on an obsession, here are a few other movies about being obsessed. Some are creepy, some are fascinating and some are just sick.

Black Swan- Natalie Portman's character, Nina, is a professional ballerina in New York City, who is completely obsessed with perfection. She yearns to be perfect at her craft and will ...

2010 Emmys: Who Should Win & Who Will Win

8/28/2010 1:00pm EDT
2010 Emmys
It’s a transitional year for the Emmys, meaning this is one of the more exciting races in recent memories. The flood of new nominees (brought on by a stellar development slate) means that we can no longer rely on the predictable Emmy voting to determine winners. Instead, this is a year where we can see many newcomers emerging and starting a whole new slate of predictable nominees.

Yes, that was a little cynical, but it’s the sad truth of the Emmys – habits are hard to break for the voters. Luckily, this year the virgin nominees have afforded them an extensive choice for brand new habits.

5 Movies Guys Shouldn't Watch

6/24/2010 9:06am EDT
Thelma & Louise
It’s easy to pick out movies that don’t particularly sit well with many American men. Cue the Chick Flicks. Beaches. Steel Magnolias. Waiting to Exhale. Anything with Meg Ryan. But some movies just flat out scare the bejesus out of men. Here are five movies that do just that, and possibly more.

Fatal Attraction: The premise: Man (Michael Douglas), although happily married, begins an affair with Other Woman (Glenn Close). Other Woman falls desperately in love with Man. Man is then turned off and tries to end affair. Other Woman says, “Oh hells no!” and turns into Psycho Chick. Psycho Chick ...

Underappreciated TV Stars

3/9/2010 10:00am EST
Glenn Close - Damages
They’re talented. They’re loveable. They’re hard-working TV thespians. Yet they don’t always get the credit they deserve. Here are 10 (seven, with three Honorable Mentions) out of the many TV stars that are often underappreciated.

Glenn Close – Alright, Close gets tons of credit for her work, including a string of film roles and awards galore, but she still earns a nod here. With Oscar nominations for The Big Chill, The Natural and Fatal Attraction, Close shines just as bright on the small screen. She currently stars as the lead character Patty Hewes, the ruthless litigator on the FX drama...

Golden Globes Fashion 2010 - The Ladies

1/18/2010 11:45am EST
Golden Globes Fashion 2010
Many of the ladies sizzled on the red carpet at last night's Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, Calif. Purple was a major pick of the evening, as Sandra Bullock, Fergie, Heidi Klum and Jane Krakowski demonstrated.

As usual black was a very popular color, and stars like Jennifer Aniston, Mariah Carey, Halle Berry, Heather Graham, Vera Farmiga and Penelope Cruz looked fab.

There wasn't a lot of bad fashion, although Tina Fey's billowing skirt was a bit too much, and Rita Wilson's flower pattern dress was simply too floral.

What did you think of last night's red carpet fashion? Who...

'Mad Men,' 'Modern Family' Among Year's Best TV

12/7/2009 1:15pm EST
Modern Family
NEW YORK (AP) - The biggest shows of 2009 couldn't always be contained by the TV screen. There were breakout tabloid scandals with Jon and Kate Gosselin. A wannabe reality TV star crashed the White House. David Letterman's hanky-panky seized headlines. Oprah Winfrey grabbed the nation's attention as she began her long goodbye. This was TV run amok.

But in 2009 other shows proved outstanding on more manageable terms: as excellent TV shows. They include:

- "Breaking Bad" (FX). Here's the cruelest premise on series TV: a high-school teacher with terminal cancer gets into the crystal-meth...

Pre-Season 2009 TV Report Card: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

9/21/2009 12:30pm EDT
Desperate Housewives
Since CNN has such a blast creating a report card to track the Presidency, we decided to have some fun with television. Which networks come out strong and which ones need to do better homework?

The Good: The dramas are what keep us coming back to ABC. Grey's Anatomy, Brothers & Sisters, FlashForward, and V are worth looking forward to. The one comedy that stands out and may hold itself against NBC's stellar comedies, Modern Family, is worth a few episodes past the pilot.

The Bad: Dancing With The Stars is extremely popular, however sometimes too much of a ...

2009 Primetime Emmy Awards Mega Diary

9/21/2009 9:55am EDT
Neil Patrick Harris
Ah, the Emmys. The one Awards show on TV that has a nonchalant attitude toward its honorees and the medium it seeks to honor. A ceremony that seeks to put on a funny show, not blow smoke up the behinds of the many winners mostly seem like they'd rather not be there.

Sure, the last couple years were awful, but this year we have the inimitable Neil Patrick Harris at the helm, and with the possibility that this may be Emmy's final year on broadcast television, they're certain to pull out all the stops and ratchet up the funny.

And with that stellar introduction, here is the 2009 Primet...

The 61st Emmy Awards: Who Should Win And Who Will Win

9/18/2009 3:44pm EDT
Neil Patrick Harris
You may have forgotten since there is about a 47-month lull between the nomination announcements and the actual awards ceremony, but the Primetime Emmy Awards are coming to your living room on Sunday evening with everybody’s favorite human being, Neil Patrick Harris, serving as host for the evening.

Hopefully, the choice of somebody known for being funny and having talents that extend beyond being able to sit still for a perfect haircut and remembering the names of contestants will show a marked improvement in the quality of the ceremony with the return to Emmy ceremonies of yore where b...

Emmy Nomination Surprises, Snubs And Shouldn't Be Nominated

7/16/2009 3:17pm EDT
How I Met Your Mother
To paraphrase Ned Flanders, apparently an Emmy nomination is easier to get than an acceptance letter from Arizona State.

This morning, Emmy tried to one-up Oscar's new rule of ten by including six nominees in the acting categories and a whopping seven in the series categories. Yes, if you made a television series this year, or appeared on one, chances are you heard your name called in North Hollywood this morning.

With so many nominess, it seems impossible that any deserving performances or series were left out. Right? Sadly, no. And, of course, there are plenty of nominees who sh...

Best Space Movies

6/12/2009 9:53am EDT
The subject of space is a difficult one in terms of selecting films. Qualifying elements are somewhat subjective. Does the film have to take place in space? Must it include aliens? Does a mere reference to space, or different planets, make it a "space" film? In short, is it merely a subgenre of science fiction? Space and science fiction, while not mutually exclusive, can occur without the other.

In celebration of the release of one of the newest and most promising space films, Moon, check out a brief list of our favorite space films. What you will find below is a mix of films t...

Movie Remakes & Recastings We Hope To Never See

6/8/2009 9:40am EDT
Mary Poppins
In the wake of the current brain-draining drive to remake just about everything Hollywood has ever had to offer, there are some films that are so sacred they should never be touched. This is a blatant retort to the deluge of watered down franchises, remakes, medium changes, etc. It ranges in levels of snark from low to apocalyptic strength.

My frustration with this extremely long trend came to a fever pitch after watching the Obsessed trailer. Anyone even peripherally familiar with Fatal Attraction could easily catch the obvious, racially spurred recasting of a classic film.

Best & Worst Stalker Movies

4/23/2009 10:24am EDT
In 'Obsessed', Derek Charles (Idris Elba) sparks a relationship with his smoking hot new co-worker Lisa Sheridan (Ali Larter). One little problem… Derek already put a ring on Sharon Charles (Beyonce). Crazy Lisa doesn't want to hear that though and continues her pursuit anyways. The unrelenting stalker character is a Hollywood staple, so will 'Obsessed' result in some good scares or unintentional laughs? Here's a look back at some of the best and worst stalker movies ever.

The Best & Worst Of Julia Roberts

3/27/2009 9:26am EDT
Mary Reilly
As one of the highest paid actresses in the world, it is no surprise that Julia Roberts has a long and varied career to admire. She started out as a romantic comedy charmer, and she has done several of them even after her vast popularity, but eventually Roberts moved into more dramatic filmmaking and huge box office hits.

She was the first actress to be on the cover of Vogue, and she is undoubtedly considered one of America's Sweethearts, so much so that she actually starred in a movie of the same name! Beautiful, intelligent, well spoken, and hard working, Roberts has been in a numbe...

Who Will & Who Should Win An Emmy

9/18/2008 9:22am EDT
30 Rock
Ah, the Emmys, the most entertaining awards show and often the most frustrating. Why is it so frustrating? Because the voters get it wrong. They get the winners wrong more often than casual sports bettors. In fact, they get it so wrong that predicting the winners is often a fool's errand since it's impossible to determine what will strike the Academy's fancy as the reasons for their choices are as mystifying as the results.

Luckily, has one such fool. So it's time for a round of everybody's favorite game: Who Will Win and Who Should Win?

Hollywood's Take On Black Presidents and Female VPs

9/5/2008 9:00am EDT
Barack Obama
With the historic 2008 presidential election merely months away, American citizens must weigh every aspect of our candidates to make an informed decision. On the Democratic ticket Senator Barack Obama stands as the first black man to represent any party for the office of President. The Republicans have Governor Sarah Palin, their party's first female vice presidential nominee.

Regardless of which political party you choose to represent, there are several possible outcomes in what could happen with a woman as vice president or a black commander-in-chief. It's difficult to tell just whe...

Emmy Nominations Reaction: Who Was Snubbed, Who Shouldn't Be A Nominee

7/18/2008 9:13am EDT
Neil Patrick Harris
With the writer's strike a distant memory and an exciting new fall season dead ahead, we're finally ready to celebrate TV again. And what better way than with a lavish awards show?

Yes, the Emmy nominations were revealed at dawn in Los Angeles Thursday morning in a delightful little ceremony that saw Neil Patrick Harris and Kristin Chenoweth squeeze about two-dozen jokes in between their reading off the teleprompter.

There were surprises leading to gasps from the press, and plenty of nominations they all saw coming. Newcomer "Mad Men" led the drama category with 16 nominations w...

TV Stars Who Deserve Emmy Nominations On July 17, Part 1

7/8/2008 11:55am EDT
Boston Legal
Last week, I helped the Emmy panelists decide upon which series to cast their vote for, and now it's the actors' turn.

The Emmy blue ribbon panel received a group of lists from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences last week. These were top ten lists from which they were to select the five nominees for the big Emmy show. They will view select episodes from each nominee and base their decision on what they see.

It's nigh on impossible to glean an accurate impression from a small sample, especially when it comes to acting. Many characters are given complex arcs from which the...

TV Update: 'Damages,' 'Ghost Whisperer' & 'NCIS' Casting

William Hurt
William Hurt will join the cast of FX's Damages for its second season, which is scheduled to return to the network in early 2009. Production of season two starts on June 24 in New York.

Hurt joins "Damages" for a season-long arc as a new client of Patty Hewes (Glenn Close). Details of Hurt's character are being kept under wraps, but insiders have intimated that Hurt's character will not only share a professional past with Hewes, but a personal one as well.

Jamie Kennedy will join the cast of Ghost Whisperer as a series regular, starring as "Eli," a graduate student in psychology a...

Oldies But Goodies: Older Stars Who Keep On Acting

4/29/2008 12:28pm EDT
Dustin Hoffman
Everyone basically accepts that the entertainment biz is youth oriented. But in spite of the Hollywood bias, there are some older actors who keep at it. Below is a top 10 list of older folks who are still making it in showbiz (and we dare say these actors could teach Hollywood's current young whippersnappers a thing or two about how to have a long career).

10. Ellen Albertini Dow, age 89.

What's that? Her name doesn't ring a bell? Well, trust us, you know who she is. She had to make our list because at almost 90 Ellen is still lining up project after project. With her cute voice, b...
