The actress Dixie Carter's most famous role is that of interior decorator Julia Sugarbaker on the television series "Designing Women" from 1986-1993. Dixie was born on May 25, 1939, in McLemoresville, Tenn, and is a graduate of Memphis State University where she is a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She made her TV debut in 1963 on the soap "The Doctors," and in May 1984, she married fellow actor Hal Holbrook.
