Animal lover Lake Bell was born March 24, 1979, in New York City, and she spent part of her childhood living in Vero Beach, Florida. The daughter of a humanitarian, Bell grew up with four Dachshunds named Schnitzel, Thumper, Tip and Ginger.

In 2002, Bell graduated from the Rose Bruford College of Speech and drama in London, England. She appeared in several theater productions while studying dance and stage combat. That same year, she appeared in the TV series ER and in the film Speakeasy. In 2003, the actress worked in the made-for-television movie War Stories and the film I Love Your Work. She also appeared in the short-lived show Miss Match.

The following year, Bell landed a role in The Hillside Strangler and appeared in The Practice as well as its spin off Boston Legal. After being cut from the legal drama, the actress turned her talents to the sci-fi drama Surface.

In addition to acting, Bell's passions are writing, painting, and foreign languages.
The bewitching Lake Bell was born and raised in New York City, later heading across the state to Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs before making the leap across the pond to transfer to Rose Bruford College in London, England. It was there that she began to get her acting feet wet, appearing in numerous stage productions including +The Pentecost and +The Seagull. Bell returned to the States to begin her onscreen career, appearing on two episodes of the long-running drama ER and alongside Jeff Goldblum in the TV movie War Stories. In 2004, she took on the recurring role of Sally Heep on The Practice. When that series was canceled, she continued the role on its spin-off, Boston Legal, and stayed with the show as a regular until 2006.
