'Ray Donovan' Season 2 Premiere Recap: Like Season One, But With More Talking Dolphins

July 14th, 2014 10:30am EDT
'Ray Donovan' Season 2 Premiere Recap: Like Season One, But With
Hey, did you know you can show gratuitous sex and naked people on Showtime? Showtime does. And that's why last night's season premiere of "Ray Donovan," entitled "Yo Soy Capitan," opened with the series' two leads (that would be Ray Donovan and his dad, Mickey), in various stages of doin' it.

Also, both Ray, played by Liev Schrieber, and Mickey, played by Jon Voight, start off the premiere with their own individual dream sequences. And as is completely typical of "Ray Donovan," Ray gets the less interesting, slightly generic one, while Mickey gets the one that is completely nutso and thus ...

Review: Director Xavier Gens Latest 'The Divide' The First Five-Star Film Of 2012

January 9th, 2012 12:45pm EST
The Divide photo
As a filmmaker, the possible potential of director Xavier Gens has been a source of much discussion. His first feature "Frontier(s)" was a visceral and controversial addition to the slasher genre, not to mention an impressive first film. His next project "Hitman" also had all the Gens signature visuals, but proved to be a classic case of all style, little substance. (Although I always sensed heavy studio interference was the creative downfall on that one!) But with the arrival of his third outing "The Divide," Gens finally quells all whispers of his probable cinematic prowess and success...

Siblings Rosanna and Patricia Arquette have opened up about their violent upbringing during a hard-hitting TV special about the family.

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies - 'Paranormal Activity 2,' 'Hereafter,' & More

October 18th, 2010 9:53am EDT
Hereafter
I saw last week’s action film “Red” starring Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, and Brian Cox. While it’s not the most exciting in terms of special effects, the cast of the movie alone more than makes up for it. They all have an incredible rapport that makes them actually seem like old friends. Check out my review here if you haven’t already.

Hitting the box office this week are the highly anticipated sequel “Paranormal Activity 2,” the supernatural Clint Eastwood drama “Hereafter,” and the life or death thriller “Inhale.”

On 'Medium,' Allison's World Is A Better Place With Devalos In It

April 10th, 2008 11:17am EDT
Medium
In case anyone was unaware, the guest star this week for "Medium" was Rosanna Arquette, and she is the older sister of lead star Patricia Arquette. If it wasn't already common knowledge and publicized heavily by NBC in the previews, it might have been obvious by the constant references to her beauty during the episode. Suck up to Rosanna lately, Patricia? If the show you work for can just shower her with flattering compliments, you will totally win the battle with your other siblings to be the favorite.

The episode was titled "Lady Killer," and the audience found out why within the fir...

The Last Two Episodes Of 'Medium' Were Brutal

April 2nd, 2008 12:10pm EDT
Medium
Naturally, since Cynthia Keener (Anjelica Huston) was given a redemptive storyline for her character and the audience was just starting to accept her, it meant her arc was over. That's cold, "Medium." In this conclusion to the two-part "Wicked Games," all of the problems introduced were resolved cleanly, although one resulted in happiness while the other in acute tragedy. Allison has often been the one hunting murderers and kidnappers, and she has occasionally connected or sympathized with them, but this time a murderer was one of her comrades. This may affect her in episodes to come, or it...

The Best Songs About Girls From A To Z, Part 2

February 1st, 2008 1:49pm EST
David Bowie
Here's part two of the best songs about girls with every letter of the alphabet, regardless of whether or not the subject of the song is the same as the title. There were two considerations in making the list: How good the song is versus how cool the chick sounds. See A to M here, and check out N to Z:

N: Darling Nikki by Prince because, if you will recall, all her masturbating with a magazine got Tipper Gore's panties all in a bunch, which in turn prompted the Explicit Lyrics stickers.

O: Ophelia by The Band. Pretty cool song, but mostly because there weren't many "O's."
