20th Screen Actors Guild Awards -- Who Will Win?

January 18th, 2014 4:01pm EST
SAG Awards
The 20th Screen Actors Guild Awards is set to get underway at 8pm tonight from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

The award ceremony, which honors movie and television actors for the roles they played in 2013's biggest films and TV series, is a precursor for the Oscars, which almost always sees the winners culled from those of the SAG awards.

Awards are handed out in 13 categories, five for motion pictures and eight for television.

In addition to the stars, the SAG Awards also honors the stuntmen and women who make the films possible, with those awards revealed as the stars hit the re...

Rizzoli & Isles Review: 'Partners In Crime'

September 11th, 2013 11:22am EDT
Rizzoli & Isles
As this season of Rizzoli & Isles draws to a close, we wish it a fond farewell until this winter when it returns to our TV screens. This season has brought a lot of heart ache, a pile of snarky quotes and a TV family that is made up of some easy-to-identify-with misfits whom we all love. This week’s episode entitled “Partners In Crime” meant that literally.

This week’s murder got its idea from the rather famous novel Strangers On A Train by Patricia Highsmith. Two people meet and agree to take care of the others “problem” for them, thereby creating alibis for each of them. While it took th...

'Rizzoli & Isles': 'No One Mourns The Wicked'

August 23rd, 2013 6:49am EDT
Rizzoli & Isles
In this week’s installment of Rizzoli & Isles, the past seems to be repeating itself and bringing buried memories to the surface. As our heroines, Det. Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) and Dr. Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander) prepare to give a presentation at a law enforcement symposium featuring the work of Charles Hoyt, it become painfully obvious that while hidden, Jane’s memories still haunt her even with Hoyt dead. As the symposium begins, it is quickly discovered by our dynamic duo that the two posed dead bodies are indeed real dead bodies. This turns the tables. Suddenly, the police are the ...

'Rizzoli & Isles' Recap: 'All For One'

August 8th, 2013 8:58am EDT
Rizzoli & Isles
Rizzoli & Isles has always been a show primarily about relationships – be they romantic, friendly, family or otherwise. This weeks episode, “All For One,” had me wanting to add the “and one for all” on at the end. As all episodes do, this one begins with the murder, but is quickly followed by an almost comical conversation between our two heroines Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander) and Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) over Jane’s sprained ankle. During the filming of this episode, actress Angie Harmon had a busted ankle, which proved quite the challenge for the writing staff and crew. This explains w...

'Rizzoli & Isles' Recap: 'Somebody's Watching Me'

August 1st, 2013 11:51am EDT
Rizzoli & Isles
This week’s episode of Rizzoli & Isles finds our favorite duo running late for work and half cranky. With no running water and no way to make coffee Detective Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) is much like 90% of Americans without caffeine: irritable, whiny and full of sass. It takes a creep named Gil starring at her chest and her idiot brother for Dr. Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander) to pull her away to grab some coffee on their way to being late to a crime scene.

Things seems to be heading in one direction for Jane: annoying. Which of us when waiting impatiently for our morning jolt doesn’t get a...

'Rizzoli & Isles' Recap: 'Dance With The Devil'

July 25th, 2013 7:50am EDT
Rizzoli & Isles
If you have watched Rizzoli & Isles from the beginning, the name “Paddy Doyle” is pretty close to a four-letter word. In this week’s episode, the penultimate trial is about to take place. As Detective Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) prepares to go to court to testify against her best friend’s father, news of a fellow police officer being killed not long after his retirement is spreading through the precinct followed by a collection box. With scant hours to go, Jane is called into her Lieutenant’s office to discuss the case while cross town, her best friend is playing hooky.

When Dr. Maura Isle...

'Rizzoli & Isles': In Over Your Head

July 5th, 2013 9:44am EDT
Rizzoli & Isles
Rizzoli & Isles, at its core, has always been a family oriented show. From the beginning we have struggled, fought, loved and suffered with the Rizzoli clan and watched as Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander), somewhat against her will, was uncomfortably folded into the fray. This week’s episode centered primarily on reliving the pasts of our two beloved heroines.

The case became the secondary plot line almost immediately with the introduction of Lt. Detective Rafael Martinez (Amaury Nolasco), the new head of Crime. From the tension so thick it could be cut with a knife, it was clear that Det. Ja...

'Rizzoli & Isles': 'We Are Family'

June 27th, 2013 8:26am EDT
Rizzoli & Isles
The return of summer TV is one of the most anticipated events of the year. We wait nine months for our favorites to return, and with the way Rizzoli & Isles left us, the season 4 premiere was an hour eagerly awaited by both fans and critics alike.

The episode opened with Jane (Angie Harmon) pushing her best friend Maura (Sasha Alexander) through a workout post-kidney removal. The two almost switch roles from past seasons, Jane being the mother hen and Maura having to take the advice. Some good news soon follows: Jane’s brother Frankie Rizzoli is getting promoted to detective, sporting a br...

'NCIS' Recap: 'Truth Or Consequences'

September 23rd, 2009 8:56am EDT
NCIS
Last season, NCIS ended with an in-the-middle-of-a-Jack-Bauer-esque-torture-session Ziva, and it picks up a few months later with the same Middle Eastern torturer, Salim, injecting Tony with truth serum. It goes to commercial break with Tony telling Salim his mission is vengeance for Ziva, "I'm here to kill you." And there we have it-- vengeance has always been the fuel for team Gibbs as well as a strong unrelenting theme of the show. Tony hints at this when Salim asks about the fourth member of the team. Tony responds telling him that they lost her four years ago-referencing the loss of...

'NCIS' Season Finale: 'Aliyah'

NCIS
Cold open on Ziva driving in her Mini asking for an extraction. The episode opens with her POV during the last minute of last week's episode- the fight between Tony and Michael. At the hospital Tony watches Ziva silently from the doorway. Gibbs talks with Tony and then moves to Ziva. Michael is dead, and Ziva strikes out, blaming Tony. Next day McGee and Gibbs go into Ziva's apartment, Gibbs questioning McGee about the tension between Tony and Ziva over Michael. As her building explodes in front of McGee and Gibbs, so does the case. While this incident opens discourse on the tenuous ...

'NCIS' Recap: A Fantasatic Set Up For The Finale

May 13th, 2009 11:42am EDT
NCIS
NCIS opens with a intrusion via a dead man smacking into the window looking in at a poker party at Sec Nav's pad with heads of CIA, FBI, and ICE. After the credits roll we are finally sans spin-off debacle cast. As Tony, McGee, and Ziva banter back and forth outside the crime scene the credits on the bottom show that FBI Special Agent Fornell (Joe Spano) will make an appearance. Inside the residence is a well-loved turf war over the case- Gibbs wins territory. ICE agent Foster-Yates in charge of security left an open spot in the perimeter, allowing for someone to penetrate and place lis...

'NCIS' Recap Commentary: 'Legend: Part 2'

May 6th, 2009 9:46am EDT
NCIS
The second part of this mediocre two-parter of NCIS begins with Ziva identifying Michael Rivkin (the man Ziva met secretly in the park in the previous installation) to Gibbs and the LA team. The new crew interrogates Rivkin… they are still two-dimensional even though the creators are desperately trying to suture them in via Callen (Chris O'Donnell) and Macy's relationships with Gibbs and then the Ziva/Moussad relationship. Macy's questioning of Ziva's loyalty to Gibbs is a transparent attempt to tie in her history (aka previous 'NCIS' episodes) to new viewers to force them to go back and ...

'NCIS' Recap: Legend Part 1

April 29th, 2009 11:12am EDT
NCIS
The episode opens on the unfortunate new NCIS spin off crew, in a two episode effort to introduce to you the spin-off of a spin-off… so, really the Bellisario version Law and Order: Criminal Intent or CSI: New York… in other words, practically doomed to fail from the start. After the credits roll we move back to DC, with Tony and McGee in a typical banter. With Ziva taking a private call, it can only be assumed it is setting up for her leaving the country later in the season. Why? Any time music is cued on Los Angeles is a dreaded place. The last time the crew was there former director...
