The Top Buzzy Films At Sundance 2014

January 16th, 2014 2:03pm EST
Boyhood
With the Sundance Film Festival starting today, we decided to take a look at some of the most anticipated films set to make an appearance. Expect to hear from many of these films in the coming year, whether it is a wide release or awards talk.

Boyhood - Richard Linklater proves he's in it for the long haul. Boyhood follows exactly what the title implies, but Linklater made the film over 12 years and used the same cast to reveal the true effects of aging.

Camp X-Ray - Kristen Stewart and Guantanamo Bay add up to one controversial film. Stewart stars as a guard that strikes up a friendship ...

Alice Eve Strips Down To Her Underwear In New 'Star Trek Into Darkness' Trailer And Reveals Hidden Easter Egg

March 25th, 2013 7:58pm EDT
Star Trek Into Darkness
Alice Eve shows off her sexy curves in the international trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness in a blink-and-you-missed it moment.

The brief moment has been the talk of the internet lately, and it's obvious that the film's director, J.J. Abrams, knew what he was doing when he released the spot.

Countless screen captures of the moment were taken from Apple and YouTube and thanks to some keen eyes over at TrekMovie.com, that split-second shot actually reveals a web address: bit.ly/WyJV4F.

When followed, viewers are taken to the film's UK/Australian site, where a brand new poster for the fil...

Evan Rachel Wood's Defining Moment In Hollywood Was Making 'Thirteen'

November 5th, 2011 6:00pm EDT
Evan Rachel Wood
AFI Fest celebrated Young Hollywood with a panel of under 30 movie stars: Evan Rachel Wood, Kristen Dunst, Armie Hammer and Anton Yelchin. Asked when they felt they’d made it in Hollywood, Wood surprised her fellow panelists and the audience with her answer.

“Has everybody seen Clueless?” Wood began. “Jeremy Sisto played Elton, drove Alicia Silverstone home in that movie. He drove me home in Thirteen.”

Thirteen was Wood’s breakthrough movie where she played a teenager falling for a bad influence. Her Hollywood moment was much more innocent though. “As a 14-year-old, that was a big moment ...

Movie Review: 'Like Crazy' Filled With Believable Characters, Humor And Sexiness

November 4th, 2011 4:20pm EDT
Like Crazy
How many of you have ever been in love? Raise your hands. Now, how many of you have been in long distance relationships?

Even if you have been in neither, ‘Like Crazy’ is likely to win you over. It is a love story at heart, but it is filled with believable characters, humor, sexiness, and a raw quality few romances portray on film. If you are expecting a Kate Hudson romantic comedy, buh-bye.

The story is simple. Anna, a young British woman, falls for Jacob, an American, while studying in L.A. They go out after she leaves a witty letter on his windshield, clumsily describing her admiration...

'Like Crazy' Star Felicity Jones Talks About Long Distance Relationships

October 25th, 2011 12:30pm EDT
Felicity Jones
The Sundance hit Like Crazy finally comes to movie theaters nearly a year after its festival premiere. In the heartfelt drama, Felicity Jones stars as a British girl who overstays her travel Visa and cannot get back into the U.S. to see her boyfriend Jacob (Anton Yelchin.) The long distance tests their relationship, and Jones could relate.

“I could definitely empathize with Anna,” Jones said while promoting the film at the Toronto International Film Festival. “As an actor, you’re a gypsy. You’re constantly moving in a different places and it is hard to retain those connections with your ho...

Despite Halloween’s rapid approach, there’s a surprising lack of horror movies hitting theaters this week. You’ll have the chance to see the wacky Johnny Depp romp “The Rum Diary,” the science fiction thriller “In Time,” the Shrek spinoff “Puss In Boots,” the Roland Emmerich period piece “Anonymous,” the romantic drama “Like Crazy,” the darkly erotic tale “Sleeping Beauty,” and the inspirational story “Janie Jones.”

In “Ides,” Clooney, who directed and co-wrote the screenplay, stars as a promising presidential candidate whose young, idealistic aid (Ryan Gosling) sees the dark underbelly of what political campaigns are really about. Expect amazing performances from the entire cast which also includes Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Maris Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood.

Review: 'Fright Night 3D' Is The Reason Remakes Get A Bad Name

August 15th, 2011 11:00am EDT
Fright Night 3D photo
Let me preface this review by stating that even though I’m a HUGE fan of the original 1985 Tom Holland five-star horror outing, I’m well aware that even that film lifted ideas from others. ("Rear Window" anyone?!) But as the effective D.J. Caruso remake of sorts called "Disturbia" so defiantly showed, a rehash of ideas can sometimes turn out to be a good thing. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the sub-par outing "Fright Night 3D," a terrible excuse to revisit Holland’s work that tries desperately to be daring and different, but ultimately succumbs to copying the original - ba...

If you missed my interview last week, with Jesse Eisenberg and Nick Swardson for the action comedy “30 Minutes or Less,” definitely check it out. The superbly cast film, which is helmed by “Zombieland” director Ruben Fleischer, is loaded with hilarious pop culture references, entertaining action sequences, and great improvisational humor. If you liked what “Zombieland” did for horror comedies, you’ll love what “30 Minutes or Less” does for the action genre. My Grade: B+

Colin Farrell Gets A Career Do-Over

May 25th, 2011 3:24pm EDT
Colin Farrell
It’s rare in Hollywood for an actor to get a second chance at a career. The most recent example of a career rebirth is Mickey Rourke whose performance in Darren Aronofsky’s “The Wrestler” not only earned him an Oscar nomination, but gave him a new life as a serious and respected actor. In 1994, Quentin Tarantino pulled John Travolta out of the wreckage of his previously successful career and cast him in one of his most iconic roles as the hitman Vincent in “Pulp Fiction.”

Now, Colin Farrell is trying to re-start his career not as the star of mindless action movies (which he quickly became ...

This Week's Movie Buzz: See It, Rent It, Or Skip It?

June 15th, 2009 9:02am EDT
Year One
I finally got around to seeing "Terminator Salvation," and I must admit I wasn't terribly impressed. Overall the film was better than "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines," but that doesn't say a whole lot because "T3" was pretty bad. Sam Worthington and Anton Yelchin were great, while Christian Bale gave an okay performance. I was expecting a more epic movie considering all its hype.

This week there are five films premiering: "Year One," "The Proposal," "Whatever Works," "Food Inc," and "Dead Snow." There are three I think are worth seeing, and two I think you should wait to rent.

Movie Remakes & Recastings We Hope To Never See

June 8th, 2009 9:40am EDT
Mary Poppins
In the wake of the current brain-draining drive to remake just about everything Hollywood has ever had to offer, there are some films that are so sacred they should never be touched. This is a blatant retort to the deluge of watered down franchises, remakes, medium changes, etc. It ranges in levels of snark from low to apocalyptic strength.

My frustration with this extremely long trend came to a fever pitch after watching the Obsessed trailer. Anyone even peripherally familiar with Fatal Attraction could easily catch the obvious, racially spurred recasting of a classic film.

Review: 'Terminator Salvation' May Not Be The 'Terminator' Fans Have Waited For

May 20th, 2009 2:15pm EDT
Terminator Salvation
When I first heard there would be a fourth Terminator film, my reaction fell somewhere in between what it would be if they announced a seventh Highlander film and the announcement of a third Mannequin -- with Mannequin being on the higher level of excitement. Now that's not to say I didn't enjoy the hell out of the first two Terminator films, I did... a lot. But once James Cameron left the series, the third film, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, followed by the recently canceled The Sara Connor Chronicles, drifted the franchise in a direction I wasn't interested in. There seemed to be to...

Hint: it involves giant robots, and it's not "Transformers 2."

The reviews for Star Trek have been mostly positive, so it's okay to assume the sequel that Paramount gave the go ahead to a few weeks ago is going to happen. Here's a quick look at the "cast of unknowns" who actually have a lot of acting credits between them.

Chris Pine starred opposite Anne Hathaway in The Princess Diaries 2

After a few the less said the better television show appearances, Zachary Quinto joined ...

Review: 'Star Trek' Is A Blockbuster That Deserves The Hype

May 1st, 2009 2:24pm EDT
Star Trek XI
When the new "Star Trek" was announced, directed by J.J. Abrams and starring a hot young cast, it was playfully referred to as "Star Trek 90210" and many fans were skeptical of its worth. Reboots of popular series are often very disappointing, and it was especially dangerous with such a diehard fanbase ready to tear apart each and every detail. The Original Series started the Trek world, and it was known to be hilarious, cheesy, and the best sci-fi they had at the time. The Next Generation was sleek and more serious, but personally I always preferred the original cast; especially their movi...
