Wlliam Wyler is considered one of Hollywood's greatest Directors. Wyler (sometimes confused with Billy Wilder) had an amazing body of work, varied and in many genres. William Wyler directed "Wuthering Heights" "Mrs. Miniver" "The Best Years of Our Lives" "Carrie" "The Heiress" "Ben Hur' three Bette Davis classics: "The Little Foxes" "The Letter" and "Jezebel" all three films garnered for Davis Best Actress Nominations and a win for Jezebel. Bette Davis was tempestous and a genius and declared Wyler was not only the greatest Director she ever worked with but the Great Love of Her Life. Ms Davis often stated that the opening shot in "The Letter" was 'the greatest opening shot of any Film' she had ever seen. Wyler also directed another driven star Barbra Steisand in her Oscar Winning turn in Columbias's film version of "Funny Girl" Wyler worked with the best Hollywood had to offer: Laurence Olivier, Merle Oberon, Bette Davis, Barbara Steisand, Audrey Hepburn, Greer Garson, Frederic March, Henry Fonda, Jennifer Jones Myrna Loy, Olivia De Havilland, Charlton Heston, Stephen Boyd, and many others. Wyler was known to be a very tough man to please: When he was asked by Miss De Havilland, 'just what Wyler wanted' after doing so many takes on "The Heiress" Wyler replied, 'I want you to do it better'. Film fans should renew their knowledge of this great Directors fine work; William Wyler was at the very top of the list of great Hollywood directors. | ||
