'How I Met Your Mother' Season 8 Continues With 'Band or DJ?'

1/15/2013 3:22pm EST
Robin and Barney meet with Mr. Sherbatsky
How I Met Your Mother returned Monday night amid swirling rumors of a renewal for a ninth season.  The episode was slow to build but finished with a bang.

In the last episode Barney asked Robin to marry him.  She said yes, but there’s one problem:  he never asked Mr. Sherbatsky for permission.  Robin’s father (also named Robin and played by the perfectly casted Ray Wise) has always been a rather scary individual, and the Barney was not looking forward to the idea of asking for Robin’s hand in marriage.  However, when they get to the restaurant to meet up with he claims to be “fun now.”  He...

Blu-ray Interview/Review: 'The Aggression Scale' Hidden Gem Dana Ashbrook Speaks!

5/29/2012 2:35pm EDT
aggression scale
Any film critic worth his salt can tell you a great movie from nowhere is like ray of light in the aisles of darkness, but add to that a stand-out role to watch for and the cinema sun is in full force. Hitting Blu-ray with a unique kid-like vengeance, "The Aggression Scale" (out May 29 from Anchor Bay Entertainment) takes the "Home Alone" concept to a homicidal place with some sinful results. But the fun doesn’t end there. Hidden inside this memorable outing is one kick ass bad guy portrayal guaranteed to knock the socks off. As the gun heavy gang leader Lloyd, actor Dana Ashbrook gives...

'Hawaii Five-O' 1.17 'Powa Maka Moana' Review

2/15/2011 9:36am EST
Hawaii Five-O
We've had a tsunami (fake but still). We've had the jungle. So what's next in Hawaii Five-O's recent string of high adventure stories? Well, pirates, of course! Pirates who take over a hapless ship full of college kids and who will not ask you why the rum is gone.

Steve and Danny are pushing Steve's father's car up a hill when they get wind of the hijacking. I mention this because that vehicle is, in fact, the original 1974 Marquis that Jack Lord drove in the original series, and I love how much this show respects its predecessor. Five-O gets together and arrives on the boat, which ...

Neil Patrick Harris Is 'Fiercely Protective' Of His Show

12/19/2010 8:36am EST
Neil Patrick Harris
Neil Patrick Harris has conceded he "feels bad" after launching a scathing attack on veteran actor Eric Braeden for pulling out of a planned appearance on How I Met Your Mother.

The Young And The Restless star joined the cast of the hit show for a one-off episode in 2008 and was due to reprise his role in an upcoming installment, but scrapped plans at the last minute.

Harris went online on Friday to criticize Braeden's decision to drop out, writing in a post on, "Eric Braeden is a D-bag. The actor... agreed to a cameo, then last night bailed, saying the part wasn't 'substantia...

31 Days Of Horror Week 1: 'Candyman,' 'Ginger Snaps' & More

10/8/2009 2:00pm EDT
With the coming of the Halloween season, Starpulse contributing writer Kris King is dedicating every day in October to watch a horror movie that has passed him by.

This week we learn the dangers of transvestites in camp with "Sleepaway Camp," get hooked on Viper in "Street Trash," and venture down a road that never ends in "Dead End."

Sleepaway Camp (1983): It Has A Weirdly Surbersive Gay Vibe

"Sleepaway Camp" is a strange movie. In essence, it's nothing more than a cheap, by-the-numbers Friday the 13th knock-off, but while the two movies are identical in setting, time p...

A Memo To Emmy Voters

6/17/2008 10:04am EDT
Big Love
Starpulse writer Andrew Payne is getting sick of the snubs by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. And even though Katherine Heigl doesn't want to be an Emmy contender this year, there are plenty of deserving shows, actors and actresses that should be recognized. Here are Payne's suggestions for those casting their ballots this week:

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Emmy Voters:

I am writing because I understand your ballots for this year's nominees are due this week. In the past, you've had quite a difficult time selecting the proper honorees. I'm not blaming you. I completely understa...

The Devil's Reject: 'Reaper' Season 1 Review

12/23/2007 12:12pm EST
Buffy 2: The Hellmouth Strikes Back?

Due to the supernatural element of the show and its deft mix of horror and lighthearted comedy, "Reaper" has been compared to "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" by critics and couch potatoes alike. While Joss Whedon's masterpiece is often referenced when discussing new shows, the comparison actually makes some sense in this case.

Sam is an ordinary youth who one day is thrust into a supernatural world and presented with a quest. His life is suddenly anything but mundane. He has to keep the mission a secret, although he does have several trusted f...

'Reaper' Debuts Tuesday, Sept. 25 At 9pm On The CW

8/15/2007 8:30pm EDT
For the first 20 years of his life, Sam (Bret Harrison, The Loop, Grounded for Life) wondered why his parents went so easy on him. Whether it was school, sports or career choices, Sam's mom (Allison Hossack, "Falcon Beach") and dad (Andrew Airlie, The L Word) always let him get by with the least possible effort. As a result, Sam skipped college, took a dead-end job at the local Work Bench home improvement store and now wastes endless hours playing video games. Everything in his slacker world changed the day Sam turned 21 and discovered the ungodly reason his parents let him slide: they s...
