The movie revamp of cult sci-fi TV series Logan's Run has stalled - filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn has confirmed reports he's no longer attached to the project.

The director was billed to take charge of the film with his pal and Drive leading man Ryan Gosling as the star, but the actor stepped away from the film last year (12) and now Winding Refn is no longer connected to it.

He tells Twitchfilm, "It's a great shame but I realised a couple of things. I was so in love with the original that I think I was disillusioned by the fact that if I made a remake I would be closer to the original, ...

Understanding 'Only God Forgives' & Why It's a Masterpiece (Spoilers)

July 22nd, 2013 9:15am EDT
Only God Forgives
Nicolas Winding Refn's latest movie "Only God Forgives" has been almost universally panned by critics, who have called the movie slow, dull, ultra violent, and confusing. To be fairly blunt, most of these reviewers have jumped on the "hate" bandwagon that this film has produced with the hope of getting more hits, considering that this movie is in fact equal to it's predecessor "Drive" in terms of quality and is bound to be a future classic. Just think, "Taxi Driver" got booed at Cannes in it's day and it's hard to think of anyone who doesn't now consider it a masterpiece.

Hollywood of late...

LA Film Fest 2013 Review - 'Only God Forgives' Is Both Brilliant And Flawed

June 21st, 2013 12:20pm EDT
LA Film Fest 2013
First off let me say I’m a big Nicolas Winding Refn fan.  From his early work on the famed "Pusher" series to his in-your-face brutality with "Bronson," Refn has an eye for visual violence like no one else.  I was disappointed in "Drive," mainly due to the fact that I felt the mainstream story wasn’t a good movie marriage with Refn’s strange cinematic style.  Now comes "Only God Forgives," a second teaming of Refn and star Ryan Gosling and on the up side this film is 100% pure Refn through and through.  But within the films’ off world of slow visual sequences and crashing musical crescendos...

Review: Refn-less 'Pusher' A Mere Faded Carbon Copy

October 26th, 2012 11:00am EDT
Pusher
There’s nothing more amazing then when a talented director takes on a not so original subject and elevates it with style. The ability to breathe life into a tired tale is a special skill reserved for only a few cinematic auteurs with vision. Back in 1996, Danish Director Nicolas Winding Refn showed such ability with his finely tuned take on a drug dealing man on the run entitled "Pusher." It presented a unique visual palate and a palpable tension worthy of some of the finest masters of the genre – Refn was a filmmaking force to be reckoned with. A new but very familiar version of that f...

Action thriller Drive was the toast of the 2011 Satellite Awards on Sunday night, winning four of the ceremony's top honors.

Carey Mulligan Stopped By Police After Red Bull Bender

November 29th, 2011 11:23am EST
Carey Mulligan
Carey Mulligan was once pulled over by police for "veering around in the road" while driving in Los Angeles - because she was "so wired" after bingeing on an energy drink.

The An Education star had a brush with the law when she was taking her Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn home, but the cop who pulled them over decided not to take further action.

She tells New York Magazine blog Vulture, "We almost got arrested once in L.A. I used to drive him to and from work when we were doing the movie... and one day we shot until two in the morning. I'd never had Red Bull before, and I had, lik...

Review: 'Drive' - Two Jews Agree This Over The Top Thriller Stalls (Video)

September 15th, 2011 1:00pm EDT
Drive
Two Jews on Film - By Joan Alperin-Schwartz: Ryan Gosling is 'Driver'. He drives...fast...very fast...If you're a burglar, he's your go-to guy. Just make sure you get the job done in five minutes. Because that's all you got... One minute late, Driver is gone.

Now, driving a get-a-way car is Driver's night job. His day job is slightly more glamorous. Driver is a stunt driver for movies...That is, when he's not working as a mechanic, for Shannon (Bryan Cranston) who just happens to be the Driver's agent and manager as well.

Shannon is a man with a dream. He wants to fund a stock car...

LA Film Fest 2011 Review - 'Drive' A Movie Marriage That Doesn't Work

June 21st, 2011 11:00am EDT
Drive photo
The strange thing about the engaging work by filmmaker Nicholas Winding Refn (“Bronson” and the “Pusher” trilogy!) is that his movies always seem to relish having an distinctively uneven tone and it’s both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand it’s a unique way of shaking up the traditions of the modern day motion picture, but on the other it’s a discombobulating device that almost ensures the work will never be five-star stuff – a cinematic conundrum indeed. Unfortunately the problem is even more glaring and severe in the case of Refn’s latest outing "Drive" due to the filmmaker abando...
