SAG Award Nominees Named: '12 Years A Slave' Tops Nods (Full List)

December 11th, 2013 11:14am EST
12 Years a Slave
Some people were surprised by The Butler’s presence here, but I don’t see any surprises from them. Movies like Gravity and Her (which are frontrunners for a Best Picture nomination) aren’t large cast films, and wouldn’t get the Ensemble nomination over The Butler. The big surprise is Dallas Buyers Club, which is a relatively small cast, and did manage an Ensemble nomination. That could go a long way in getting DBC to a Best Picture nomination. Also, Daniel Bruhl is back in the race with a Supporting Actor nomination for Rush.

Kudos to the SAG members for nominating James Gandolfini for E...

Jordan, and it was revealed Gyllenhaal had a shot at being Frodo in the acclaimed Lord of the Rings trilogy until he gave "literally one of the worst auditions."

The interviewer asked, "What's the strangest audition you have had?" Josh Brolin recalled a Fly 2 audition in which he writhed on the ground and frothed at the mouth (his ...

The film easily beat the number-two movie of the weekend, comedy "We're The Millers," which earned $13.5 million.

I’m not old, but I am mature. I’m not in the let’s-go-clubbin’-this-Saturday-night set, but I’m still in the coveted demographic that advertisers like. I’m old enough to remember when vampires were scary—not hot. And I do have those wonderful memories of big, boxy television consoles with three major networks and some local stations with really bad programming. Color television shows were a major big deal, so much so that announcers would actually let you know—“The F.B.I.— in color!” That was probably because not a lot of folks had a color TV set. It’s also cool to see how the physical tele...

What Can We Expect To See In Season 4 Of 'Californication'?

Actually, that’s the entirety of “Californication.” Hank Moody has sex, feels bad about it later, then does it again. But gosh if he isn’t just so darn loveable.

I know the show is about that cycle. I know the show is supposed to be about how Hank Moody is a sex addict, and how he’s t...

It’s been joked that the Internet acted as casting director for Sylvester Stallone’s muscle and explosion symphony The Expendables. Setting out to create a who’s who of action stars of the past 30 years, Stallone cobbled together a cadre of modern stars like Jet Li and Jason Statham along with a healthy stable of direct-to-video relics like Dolph Lundgren and Eric Roberts to form his retro team of ‘roided up ass-kickers. When I read the results of the Oscars, I was not terribly surprised by any of the winners. I felt that a lot of the films and actors that were played up very politically in the entertainment industry were the ones that walked away with the coveted statues.

Hollywood has always had its share of big-name black talent, from Sidney Poitier to Hattie McDaniel to Louis Gossett, Jr. But looking back, none of those big names owned Hollywood like Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford, or Audrey Hepburn did. Poitier, McDaniel, and Gossett, Jr. were immensely talented pioneers, but they were vastly outnumbered by their peers in the industry. Unfortunate as it was, they were the exception in Hollywood, not the rule.

This was probably due in part to the social fabric of America at the time. It can’t have been easy for Sidney Poitier, even with his incredible tal...
