Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) initially ruled the Hollywood mogul had to change the name of The Butler ahead of its August release, but they reversed the decision and allowed...

March 27th, 2012 8:57am EDT
Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein is standing up to censors at The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) by releasing his new movie "Bully" unrated.

MPAA bosses initially slapped the documentary with a restrictive R rating, which bans young children from seeing the film without an adult, despite Weinstein arguing that "Bully" was essential viewing for kids as it raised awareness and should be shown in schools.

The decision angered many film fans and social campaigners - and a host of actors, including Justin Bieber and Meryl Streep, added their names to a 425,000-strong petition aimed a...

More than 150,000 film fans have signed an online petition demanding a lower age rating for Harvey Weinstein's new movie Bully.

He argued kids need to watch Bully because of the sensitive issues involved, and Katy Butler, a high school student from Michigan, subsequently started a petition backing Weinstein's age-rating plea.

The poll, posted on, has now received mor...

Filmmaker Michael Moore is taking movie moguls Harvey and Bob Weinstein to court over allegations the brothers cheated him out of profits from his hit documentary Fahrenheit 9/11.

The 2004 picture was released by Moore's Westside Productions via a deal with the Weinsteins' The Fellowship Adventure Group. It became the highest-grossing documentary of all time with worldwide profits of $222 million.

But Moore claims the Weinsteins reneged on their agreement to share the profits equally between the two firms and has accused the moguls of secretly syphoning off cash for their own benefit, acc...

December 9th, 2010 8:25am EST
Blue Valentine
The producers of Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams' controversial new film "Blue Valentine" have won their fight to land the movie a softer rating.

Censors at the Motion Picture Association of America ruled that some of the film's scenes were too racy for an R rating and suggested "Blue Valentine" should be released as a restrictive NC-17 movie.

Producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein fought the rating and they have won their battle - the film will be released as an R with all its scenes intact. The new ruling now means the movie could be released to more theatres.

Producer Harvey Weinstein is challenging the movie censors' over the ban for under-17s, and an appeal hearing will take place later this month.

31 Days Of Horror: "The Burning" (1981)

October 6th, 2010 12:30pm EDT
The Burning (1981)
With horror movies it’s pretty easy to come up with some bullshit excuse as to why you’re subjecting yourself to what is typically, by almost every conceivable measure, a pretty repugnant piece of shit movie. The Friday the 13th series has an unreasonably fierce puritanical streak, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is about regional tension and the economic repercussions of automating farm labor, and every zombie movie ever is about how we’re the real monsters. 1981’s The Burning is about children getting stabbed to death with garden shears. Oh, and seeing some full frontal 80s girls. That’s it. ...

Their negotiations fell though and officials at Disney have now...

5 Horror Remakes We'd Like To See

September 11th, 2009 12:14pm EDT
With "Sorority Row" hitting theatres today - a remake of the 1983 slasher classic - it truly seems as if every horror property of the last 30 years has been given a do-over.

From big names (Jason, Freddy, Michael Myers) to cult classics ("Prom Night," "The Hills Have Eyes," "The Last House on the Left"), horror remakes are big business.

But believe it or not, there are a few horror properties out there that haven't been touched, and more importantly, have the potential to be improved by being remade.

Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)

At the time of its 1984 release, this fil...
