'Transporter: The Series' Recap And Review: 'Dead Drop' - The Man Behind The Curtain

October 19th, 2014 9:15am EDT
'Transporter: The Series' Recap And Review: 'Dead Drop' - The Ma
The sophomore (sort of) outing of Transporter: The Series sends Frank Stateside to deal with a figure from his past who, naturally, needs his old acquaintance to save the day. You may have heard this plot before, but when it includes our first look behind the curtain at what shaped Frank Martin, plus some entertaining setpieces along the way, one can't seriously argue with traversing some familiar territory.

There's a street race going on in Philadelphia, and not even a phone call from Dieter can derail Frank's best Fast & Furious impression. But of course, this isn't just a joyride; there...

'Transporter: The Series' Recap And Review: 'Trojan Horsepower' - The Best New Ride Of 2014

'Transporter: The Series' Recap And Review: 'Trojan Horsepower'
Buckle up, because we've just found your new Saturday night obsession. Jumping off from the film trilogy, Transporter: The Series finally makes its American TV debut two years after its premiere - and with speed, style, entertaining stunts and a sterling performance from Chris Vance, it's absolutely worth the wait.

For those of you who haven't seen the movies, a quick primer: former SAS and Special Forces operative Frank Martin (Jason Statham in the films, now succeeded by Vance) is a freelance "transporter" who has only three rules: never change the deal, don't use any names, and never op...

Survive and Vance: Chris Vance Drives 'Transporter: The Series'

October 16th, 2014 12:10pm EDT
Chris Vance
Chris Vance has been hiding in plain sight. The English actor impresses no matter what role you hand him. He was the enigmatic yet still kind of likeable James Whistler on Prison Break. The entertaining antagonist Mason Gilroy in five episodes of Burn Notice. The charming and often inspiring Dr. Jack Gallagher on Mental. The "of course she fell for him" Casey Jones in Rizzoli & Isles. Even when he was a really bad guy on Dexter, he was still worth watching. And yet, most TV viewers probably can't tell you his name.

That's about to change. Vance has taken on his biggest role yet, and he's t...

8 Potential Breakout Stars In Television

8 Potential Breakout Stars In Television
You know them: the actor who's really good at what they do, but for whatever reason, doesn't get as much attention as they deserve. Maybe they're on a show that doesn't have a huge audience. Maybe they get less screen time than their costars. Maybe they ought to have won several awards by now and they've never even been nominated. But you love watching them every week, and you just wish everyone else would give them more respect already.

The 2014-2015 TV season has quite a few of those actors, several of whom are poised to break through to bigger story arcs and wider acclaim. Whether they'...

'Transporter' TV Series Star Chris Vance Injured On Set

October 14th, 2011 5:32pm EDT
Chris Vance
TV execs have halted filming on upcoming series Transporter after actor Chris Vance was injured during an action scene.

The former Prison Break star was shooting at the show's set in Toronto, Canada when the incident happened, and Cinemax bosses have stopped production on the program, based on the Transporter film series, for at least two weeks.

In a statement, showrunner Steve Shill says, "We want to ensure Chris' return to peak physical condition before putting him back in front of the camera to continue shooting this fast-paced, action-packed series."

The show is expected to debut on ...

TV On DVD: 'Dexter: Season Five'

August 18th, 2011 3:10pm EDT
Dexter
This week, CBS Home Entertainment released season five of Showtime's hit series Dexter on DVD and Blu-Ray. Here's my look inside the DVD version.

The Show

After a spectacular fourth season (I don't know about you, but I have a really hard time watching John Lithgow in those 3rd Rock from the Sun reruns now), Dexter had a tough act to follow. While I don't dislike season five as much as some fans, I can see where their disappointment comes from - it's a worthwhile go, but the standard was set high and it didn't quite get there.

Julia Stiles (10 Things I Hate About You) is the season...

'Fairly Legal' 1.08 'Ultravinyl' Review

March 11th, 2011 10:29am EST
Fairly Legal
One way to make a good show? Bring a great guest star.

Chris Vance can turn up on my TV anytime he likes. I liked him as Mason Gilroy on Burn Notice (anyone ever notice how these USA shows tend to share guest actors?), loved him even more as Dr. Jack Gallagher in the short-lived Mental, and am glad to see him in this week's Fairly Legal as Paul Shelton, a former rock star who needs Kate to help him mediate a business deal with his two old bandmates. Unfortunately, Mack and Sherry are married, raising a family, and want nothing to do with him. As if that's not harsh enough, he's dying.
