Spencer Tracy is considered by many to be the finest actor ever to appear on the Silver Screen. MGM promoted Spencer Tracy as a great actor and he won Oscars back to back for "Captains Courageous" and "Boys Town". Tracy was a friend to Clark Gable and was his co star in several films. Tracy was often nominated for the Oscar reaching a then record 10 Nominations. Tracy was beset by demons and was an Alcholic. His marriage fell apart when it turned out his son John was born deaf; Tracy simply dould not handle it. Mrs. Tracy founded The John Tracy Clinic for the Deaf and was singluarly responsible for assisting deaf people. Tracy provided financial support for the Clinic all his life;It has become world renowned. Women found Tracy very attractive one being Loretta Young, the other his great love Katharine Hepburn. Their final film was "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner" which won Kate Hepburn an Oscar and Tracy a final nomination. Hepburn who eschewed Awards, Testimonals all her Life noted that what Louise Tracy did for deaf people was more than just "making faces at a camera" which Hepburn felt what she did. Of course Hepburn did more than that. I feel Spencer Tracy's greatest performance is in "Judgement at Nuremburg" and reportedly his great speech at the end of the movie which runs for about 15 minutes was done in one take and Tracy was given a standing ovation by cast, crew when he finished. Tracy never divorced his Wife. His Son recently died. | ||
