Actress/director Angelica Torn has changed her surname as she no longer speaks to her father Rip Torn.

The theatre star has legally registered her surname as Page, after her mother Geraldine Page, insisting she wants to "honor" the screen legend and distance herself from her famous dad.

Embattled actor Rip Torn is writing his autobiography in a bid to show fans he's more than just the alcoholic he's been portrayed as in the press.

The Men In Black star, 80, embarked on a career in Hollywood after graduating from Texas A&M University, landing roles in films such as Payday (1972), The Man Who Fell To Earth (1976) and Cross Creek (1983), for which he won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination.

But Torn, who also enjoyed several stints on Broadway, has been hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons of late, following his arrest for a drunken bank break-in last year.

Celebrities make mistakes just like the rest of us, and Hollywood had its share of arrests this year. In January, Gary Coleman was arrested on a domestic violence warrant. The "Diff'rent Strokes" star, who suffered from congenital kidney disease, died from a brain hemorrhage in May following a fall at his home in Utah.

Actor Rip Torn has escaped jail for his drunken bank break-in in January after pleading guilty to a list of charges.

The Men In Black star, 79, was found sprawled on the floor of the Litchfield Bancorp building in his hometown of Salisbury, Connecticut clutching a revolver. The actor was reportedly intoxicated and told cops he thought the building was his home.

He subsequently pleaded not guilty to a number of offences and checked into a treatment facility in New York to face his personal problems.

Actor Rip Torn has had his Wednesday court date postponed until next month due to a scheduling conflict. The Men in Black star, real name Elmore Rual Torn, was due to appear before a Connecticut judge this week to answer burglary and weapons charges after he was caught breaking into a bank in January.
