November 5th, 2013 4:15pm EST
CELEBNAME
Wes Anderson is set to kick off the 64th Berlin International Film Festival on February 6, 2014 with the world premiere of his new film, Grand Budapest Hotel.

The film, Anderson's eighth as director, stars Ralph Fiennes as the titular hotel's concierge befriends a young lobby boy (newcomer Tony Revolori) and takes him under his wing as his unofficial apprentice.

The film was shot on location in Germany, making it the perfect place for it to premiere, as many had assumed it would bow at next year's Cannes Film Festival.

Two of Anderson's previous films, "The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou...

K-Pop Group Takes Top Prize At First YouTube Music Awards

November 4th, 2013 1:07pm EST
Girls' Generation
The winner of the Video of the Year was the relatively-unknown group Girls' Generation at the inaugural YouTube Music Awards.

Every awards show has growing pains, especially during its first show. Hey, even the Academy Awards has issues after 85. However, the online streaming show was at times hectic and at others completely bereft of content. For example, at one point comedic hosts Jason Schwartzman and Reggie Watts were given two crying babies while they were trying to interview Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

Perhaps giving the top prize to Korean girl group Girls' Generation was apt given ...

Review: 'Scott Pilgrim' Is A Knock-Out Punch For Gamers & Comic Book Fans

August 11th, 2010 10:00am EDT
Scott Pilgrim
Movies that adapt video games and comic books for mainstream audiences usually attempt to make the plot more accessible to the average viewer. In grounding the experience so that people can relate to it, often these works abandon the light-hearted and fantastic aspects that appeal to their followers.

What’s so absolutely wonderful about “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” though is that it does not attempt to dumb itself down. The director Edgar Wright, of “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz” fame, has created a film with uncompromising vision directed towards a very distinct target niche: gamers...

2012
At some point this week I hope to catch the wacky comedy "The Men Who Stare at Goats." While I have read some bad reviews of the film, I believe my tendency to disagree with the mainstream, could be a wild card for my own appraisal of the movie.

I'm having difficulty believing the collection of George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges could contribute to a horrific film considering I how much appreciate their abilities on screen.

Roland Emmerich destroys the world yet another time this week with his apocalyptic tale "2012." The quirky animation of Wes Anders...

Ted Danson Is The Best Thing About HBO's Disappointing 'Bored To Death'

HBO's unconventional new comedy Bored to Death, starring Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson and Zach Galifianakis, left us feeling a little bored. The show has great potential with a brilliant cast, but it failed to get us hooked. We're not ready to throw away the show all together, however. Here's hoping the remaining episodes will have stronger dialogue and more guts.

The show succeeds in originality with the main character doing freelance detective work, which gives the cast a lot to play with. But it seems to come up empty sometimes. Jason plays Jonathan Ames, a young Brooklyn writer who...

Adam Sandler has been delighting (and annoying) audiences for about 20 years, although in the beginning he was just that guy who did odd voices on "Saturday Night Live." Despite seeming like just a goof, Sandler quickly proved to be a smart business investor, having written and produced several of his most successful films and creating Happy Madison Productions.

Most of Sandler's films in the past 10 years have been out of his own production company, with a few exceptions. Forbes recently named him one of the highest-paid men in hollywood. Anyone who writes this actor off as just a sill...
