Will Andy Samberg Bring Laughs To The Emmy Awards?

March 13th, 2015 12:40pm EDT
Andy Samberg To Host The 2015 Emmy Awards: Expect A 'Wild Ride'
Andy Samberg has been tapped to host the 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards and there is once again a chance for an awards show to have real laughs instead of calculated chuckles.

The actor is set to host the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards this year, it was announced Thursday.

“It’s wonderfully fitting that we have Andy Samberg, an Emmy Award winner himself, as our host for this year's Primetime Emmy Awards,” said Bruce Rosenblum, chairman and CEO of the Television Academy.

“Andy has excelled in all aspects of the television universe, both from behind and in front of the camera. His humor, insights ...

'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Recap: Love, 'Brookyln' Style

'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Recap: Love, 'Brookyln' Style
"Boyle-Linetti Wedding" is exactlway what its title promises: a wedding episode. Which could be deadly for a show like "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," because weddings are slippery slopes.

Take "The Office"- a workplace satire that started off as dry and biting as they come, and ended its run with multiple wedding episodes (and at least as many baby episodes) under its belt.

Can "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" navigate this treacherous ground? Can it make a wedding episode without diving headfirst into sitcommy emotions forever? Can it even have a wedding that tugs the appropriate heartstrings while staying e...

Oscars 2015: The 6 Best Moments Of The 2015 Academy Awards
Oscars 2015 will likely go down in history for several reasons. Not only was it one of the few times where the entire nominated group of actors and actresses were overwhelmingly white, it was also one of the most awkward of ceremonies. Several moments left viewers scratching their heads in disbelief, while others were laugh-out-loud funny. Still, it was difficult to narrow down to several of the best moments of the disjointed telecast. Here are the top six moments, honored for their weirdness, awkwardness and most of all, moments that will keep fans talking way into 2016!

'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Recap: 'Windbreaker City' Is Jake's Own Pri
Back in the very first episodes of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," large chunks of airtime would hang entirely on Andy Samberg's smarmy-yet-sweet schtick.

Samberg was a huge "SNL" star, and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" was his vehicle. Made sense at the time.

Today, Samberg is no longer "Brooklyn Nine-Nine's" greatest strength. Instead it's the full cast, careening off each other like comedy superballs.

So an episode like "Windbreaker City," that hinges around Jake obsessively checking his phone and playing up the "wacky Samberg" stuff... falls a bit flat.

That was almost the entire first act of "Windbre...

'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Recap: Jake's Heart is Crushed, And So Is O
"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" might be a comedy, and we might have laughed plenty at "The Defense Rests" (if you sat there stonefaced while Holt cackled at the genius of Wuntch's name autocorrecting to "butt," you may be a robot).

But it wasn't the funniest episode of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" history. And that's intentional- "The Defense Rests" is probably the closest thing this show will get to a Serious Emotions episode.

And those Serious Emotions come from Jake and Sophia, finally doing what was foretold when Eva Longoria only signed on for three episodes- breaking up.

At first, it's not a breakup...

Finally, someone's showing a little appreciation for Yahoo Answers, and its unquestionable status as the worst source of advice for everyone, ever (although it's helpful if you've ever smelled your husband's gas to determine his faithfulness).

"Payback," last night's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," gave Yahoo Answers two separate shoutouts (both from Jake), an admirable show of gratitude for such an awful place.

But more importantly, "Payback" was another win for "Brooklyn Nine-Nine;" a hugely funny episode that, in combination with last week's hugely funny episode, suggests the show is coming back...

'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Recap: Holt, the Party Pooper
At the TCAs last year, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" co-creator Michael Schur talked about the show like it was a giant comedy soup.

"We are a chef, and we are going to make a new recipe, and it's got the following ingredients: Chelsea Peretti and Terry Crews and Joe Lo Truglio. And, then, you end up coming up with a really fun story. And we are at the point- and we got to the point very quickly- where you can take any two, three, four, five of these people and put them in a room together, and it's going to be fun. And that's a real luxury from a writing standpoint."

There's no better example o...

'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Season 2 Episode 11 Recap: Terry's Picture
Well, "The Stakeout" confirmed it. The Gigglepig task force was a rousing success, Deputy Chief Wuntch has been made to look a fool in front of the entire police force and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" has made it through its very first long-form story arc.

What did everyone think? We were a little... nonplussed with "Brooklyn Nine-Nine's" foray into major story arcs, quite frankly. Outside of a few key episode, Gigglepig was mostly given lip service here and there; just enough so we'd remember it was still going on.

It never felt like it had built to a satisfying conclusion, even if Holt's giggly...

Has anyone else felt like "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" was in a wee bit of a slump? Since around the Halloween episode, maybe. As though, as gut-busting (and believe us, guts have been busted) each episode was, there was something dragging it down?

Well, whether you agree or not (or are sharpening an Andy Samberg-shaped penknife for a swift and brutal defense of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine's" honor), "The Pontiac Bandit Returns" was an absolute hoot. Naysayers and yaysayers alike have a lot to love this week.

Kinda like "Halloween II," "The Pontiac Bandit Returns" makes a pretty general stab at sequelizi...

Brooklyn Nine-Nine
It has risen once again. The great and terrible beast, the killer of sitcoms, destroyer of comedies.

Sexual tension.

Because last night's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" shoved us back into the "will they, won't they" of Jake Peralta and Amy Santiago. One wrong move, and this wacky workplace sitcom is bogged down in dreary relationship gobbledygook.

No one cares whether Twink Tucker, probably-Irish longshoreman, comes across the woman (man?) of his dreams. We want to point and laugh at the name Twink Tucker.

Luckily for everyone involved, "The Road Trip" addressed the screamingly obvious Jake/Amy ...

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" hasn't been pushing the Jake/Amy thing much this season, but eventually Jake would have to move on in earnest. Or start stalking her. One of the two.

And now, he has: "Jake and Sophia" is the christening of a new relationship; a relationship that's stated pretty plainly in the episode title. So long, Amy. Hello Sophia (played by guest star Eva Longoria).

How are the sparks between the two? Well, they're... not particularly sparky. In setting these two up for a relationship (a relationship that'll last all of three episodes, if Longoria's contract is to be believed), "...

7 Facts We Learned About 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' From the TCA Press
Last fall, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" went from "a show that hasn't started airing" to "a show beloved by all" almost overnight. This is good. The bad is this peculiar season called "summer," when fall shows (such as "Brooklyn Nine-Nine") do not air.

But summer's end isn't too far away, which means we only have about two months and change (the season premiere is set for September 28) before "Brooklyn Nine Nine" rises anew. And in order to whet society's collective appetites, the cast and producers of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" arrived at this summer's TCA Press Tour, to discuss the show's second seas...

Many of Hollywood's elite attend the event and sometimes things get a little out of hand.

Review: 'What's Your Number?' Counts On Chemistry, Is Greater Than Sum Of Its Parts

September 30th, 2011 2:00pm EDT
mine is about 8 and half.
“What's Your Number” first looked to be a movie about how silly magazines like Cosmo craze typically well adjusted women into believing (or trying) ridiculous things in the name of romance and passion. The flip side of this is that these sorts of magazines can also make women believe they are weird, or fat, or slutty. It's the latter in “What's Your Number” a romantic comedy for I'm-not-sure who that manages to delight anyhow.

Things pick up with Ally (Anna Faris) dumping her boyfriend, getting fired, dealing with her overbearing mother, and realizing she's had the most sexual partners (2...
