Did 'Ant-Man' Live Up To Marvel’s Expectations?

7/20/2015 12:12pm EDT
'Ant-Man's Debut Smaller Than Other Marvel Titles, But Still Top
The smallest superhero ever loomed large at the U.S. box office this past weekend.

Marvel's 'Ant-Man' debuted to an estimated $58 million, taking first place over Universal's 'Minions', which brought in $50 million.

Still, that tally is a bit smaller than other recent Marvel films. The debut of 'Thor' and 'Captain America' both brought in $65 million back in 2011. You'd have to go back to 2008's 'The Incredible Hulk' and its $55 million to find a film that performed worse on its opening weekend.

The lower number was expected by some, however, given the less serious nature of the superher...

Does Marvel Make Ant-Man Cool?

7/17/2015 8:35pm EDT
I had giant sized hopes for ‘Ant-Man,’ but this film was a series of failed expectations. It had everything going for it – everyman hero Paul Rudd as the lead; hilarious comedienne Judy Greer as a co-star; the hilarious screenwriters of ‘Hot Fuzz’ (Joseph Murray Cornish, Edgar Wright) and ‘Anchorman’ (Adam McKay) on staff; the same production team that oversaw previous Marvel hits - ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘; as well as the most imaginative director possible, Peyton Reed (check out his uber-ironic directing style in ‘Down With Love’). I figured that if anyone could make a one...

Paul Rudd Quit Carbs And Booze To Get In Superhero Shape

7/16/2015 12:44am EDT
Paul Rudd's diet for Ant-Man was absolutely insane! According to People, Paul had to eat like a pro (like a starving pro) and exercise like a crazy person to get into fighting Marvel hero shape- and now he's finally detailing just what he did to buff up for the role.

"I'd never exercised harder than this for an extended amount of time," Paul explained. "My day was centered around fitness and health, and that was kind of a first. Every other time, I had to go about my day and try and find the time to work out. But [this time] everything else about my day kind of had to fit in around the wor...

Latest 'Ant-Man' Trailer Has A Big Shout-Out

6/12/2015 9:01pm EDT
Marvel's New Trailer for 'Ant-Man' Smartly References 'The Aveng
At this point, most movie industry watchers feel like Marvel simply can't lose. The comic book company's film division has turned out hit after hit, with even the riskier Guardians of the Galaxy dominating the box office last summer.

Now, Marvel is gearing up for another film that, like Guardians, is a little bit out in left field. Ant-Man will release July 17, starring Paul Rudd as a superhero who can change his size at will. We've seen some previews of the movie before, but now Marvel is picking up the pace as the movie's premiere gets closer. The studio released another trailer this wee...

Paul Rudd Is Very Small In First Full Ant-Man Trailer (Watch)

Get To Know Paul Rudd As Ant-Man In First Full Trailer (Watch)
Alright, no more foolin' around. No more ant-sized teases. Or man-sized teases (admittedly, that one was a lot less foolish).

The trailer for "Ant-Man" is finally here!

Marvel debuted the trailer during last night's premiere of "Agent Carter," our first full non-ridiculous look at the second of Marvel's two 2015 films (the first, obviously, being "Avengers: Age of Ultron").

As far as trailers go, it's pretty terrific. It's very much a teaser trailer- there's very little actual Ant-Man action (one shrink, and then a few seconds of our hero riding on ant-back, and that's it).

But we do ge...

'Ant-Man' Gets A Teaser You Won't Need A Magnifying Glass To See

1/4/2015 6:31pm EST
Get A Closer Look At Marvel's 'Ant-Man' Teaser, Now 'Human-Sized
Marvel rolled out the first teaser for this summer's "Ant-Man" on Friday, but the video was only ant-sized, and now the studio has released something we humans can see.

Despite the larger format, the film's first teaser doesn't reveal much more than a few quick glimpses at stars Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly, a prison fight, what appears to be a scientist entering a lab, and a pair of feet clad in red and black boots that match the title hero's costume from the movie poster.

The teaser boasts, "This Tuesday Something Big Arrives" (get it?), as the full trailer will debut on January 6 dur...

'Ant-Man' Teaser Is Perfect For Ants

1/4/2015 7:17am EST
Marvel Debuts Really Tiny 'Ant-Man' Teaser
Marvel's new Ant-Man teaser trailer has arrived, but don't expect to see much because the video is ant-sized.

The studio released the tiny teaser on Friday to announce that the human-sized trailer will debut on January 6 during the two-hour premiere of "Marvel's Agent Carter" on ABC.

Paul Rudd stars in the film as con-man Scott Lang, who steals a supersuit that gives its wearer the ability to shrink down to the size of an ant from scientist Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) before the two ultimately team up to "pull off a heist that will save the world."

"Ant-Man" hits theaters July 17, and the...

Marvel Studios has given fans a glimpse of Paul Rudd as Ant-Man. The actor is depicted in front of the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco looking a little scruffy and wearing a hoodie. He stands in front of a brown Ford van.

Rudd plays the title superhero and his alter-ego Scott Lang.

Production on the film has hit some setbacks. The oridingal director, Edgar Wright, quit earlier this year. He was replaced by Peyton Reed, who began principal photography on the project in California on Monday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Michael Douglas has been cast as Lang's mentor Dr. Hank Py...

Paul Rudd Joins Jimmy Fallon For First Ever 'Tonight Show' Lip Sync Battle -- And It's Epic!

2/26/2014 8:33pm EST
Paul Rudd and Jimmy Fallon
The first official "Tonight Show Lip Sync Battle" happened Tuesday night between host Jimmy Fallon and guest Paul Rudd.

The skit was first made famous on "The Late Show" when Fallon was host, and became epic when guest Stephen Merchant, who created the game with pals John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, challenged Jimmy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to a battle that Gordon-Levitt destroyed with a mock performance of Elton John's "Tiny Dancer" (watch it below).

This time around it was Rudd's turn to take on the host, and the result is nothing short of hilarious. The "This Is 40" star began by miming...

Michael Douglas To Play Hank Pym In Marvel's 'Ant-Man'

1/14/2014 9:35am EST
Michael Douglas
Michael Douglas has been tapped to play scientist Hank Pym in the upcoming adaptation of Marvel comics' "Ant-Man."

Douglas, fresh of his Golden Globes win for Behind the Candelabra, is set to join Paul Rudd, who plays the title superhero and his alter-ego Scott Lang, in the film.

"With Hank Pym's rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves," said Marvel president Kevin Feige in a statement on the official Marvel Studios website. "We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to...

Paul Rudd Negotiating For Lead Role In 'Ant-Man'

12/19/2013 12:03pm EST
Paul Rudd
Paul Rudd has appeared to win a two-man race for the role of Ant-Man.

Variety reports the Anchorman 2 star is negotiating with Marvel to star in Edgar Wright's Ant-Man film. Joseph Gordon-Levitt was rumored to be the other front-runner for the part.

It's possible that Gordon Levitt's recent involvement in DC Comic's Sandman film may have pushed him out of the running - or Rudd was the favored choice in the first place.

Rudd's comedic flair should fit well with Edgar Wright's style, even if the film is a superhero flick at-heart. It is currently rumored that Ant-Man will follow the later ...

Paul Rudd And Joseph Gordon-Levitt In The Running For 'Ant-Man' Role

10/15/2013 12:03pm EDT
Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd
Edgar Wright is eying two A-list actors to play the lead role in his upcoming superhero flick Ant-Man. The movie, which recently had its release date moved up from November to July 2015, is reportedly eying Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd to play lead role Henry Pym.

Variety has sources that claim Paul and Joseph have emerged to play the scientist-turned-superhero, and are expected to meet with Marvel and director Wright before a casting choice is made. The source also reported a third actor could get a chance, but named no names.

The role would be Gordon-Levitt's third comic book role...

The first full trailer for the film was released Tuesday, showing that the San Diego news crew has moved on to the Big Apple to help usher in the era of the 24-hour news network.

12/13/2012 12:00pm EST
Megan Fox
The "Knocked Up" sequel "This Is 40" hits theaters on Dec. 21, and the cast stepped out in Hollywood on Wednesday to attend the premiere.

New mom Megan Fox stunned in a dark red wrap dress with black stilettos. The actress, 26, gave birth to son Noah on Sept. 27. Just 10 weeks later she looks amazing (no surprise there!)

Newly single Danica McKellar, who filed for divorce over the summer, looked cute in a purple and silver off-the-shoulder frock.

Heather Locklear was accompanied by her beautiful 15-year-old daughter Ava Sambora, while Leslie Mann looked slim and trim in a white gown with...

11/16/2012 4:20pm EST
Paul Rudd
Paul Rudd's turn in Broadway play Grace is making theatre fans sick - one man vomited from a balcony during Wednesday night's show.

Rudd is currently starring in the first official run of Craig Wright's production alongside fellow cast members Michael Shannon and Ed Asner at the Cort Theater in New York, and fans flocked to see the show on Wednesday.

However, audience members in the orchestra section got a shock when they were showered in sick after a man fell ill in the mezzanine. A source tells New York Magazine, "The stench of the vomit was a little overwhelming, and many people were...

The film, which stars Paul Rudd opposite Apatow's real-life wife Leslie Mann, is a "sort-of-sequel" to 2007s Knocked Up; and focuses on the lives of Pete and Debbie a few years later.

This Is 40 opens December 21 and also stars Jason Segel, Chris O'Dowd, Melissa McCarthy, John Lithgow, Albert Brooks, and, of course, Megan Fox.

Classic Comedy 'Clueless' Arrives On Blu-ray May 1

4/28/2012 6:54am EDT
Jane Austen might never have imagined that her 1816 novel "Emma" could be turned into a fresh and satirical look at ultra-rich teenagers in a Beverly Hills high school in "Clueless."

Cher (Alicia Silverstone) and Dionne (Stacey Dash), both named after "great singers of the past that now do infomercials," are pampered upper-class girls who care less about getting good grades than wearing the right clothes and being as popular as possible.

But Cher, who lives with her tough yet warm-hearted lawyer dad (Dan Hedaya) and hunky, sensitive stepbrother (Paul Rudd), also has an innate urge to help...

Lindsay Lohan Attending White House Correspondents' Dinner - See Guest List Of The Stars

4/26/2012 4:07pm EDT
Lindsay Lohan
The White House Correspondent's Dinner is one of the few times we get to so many Hollywood stars rub elbows with politicians. Every year, news sources get to choose big names to escort them to the dinner - so who's on the guest list this year?

Of course, the guest list is always up for discussion and usually points to trends at the time - Ozzy Osbourne was on the guest list in 2002, when The Osbournes was a hot reality show. Something tells us he's not going to be invited again soon.

Lindsay Lohan is the big surprise, given her recent troubles. Greta van Susteren of Fox has made the star ...

Luke Wilson Enthusiastic For Armless 'Anchorman' Return

4/9/2012 12:11pm EDT
Luke Wilson
Luke Wilson is eager to make a cameo appearance in the upcoming Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy sequel, despite his character losing both arms in the original movie.

Will Ferrell recently confirmed his obnoxious newsman character will be returning to the big screen for a follow-up after several years of financial wrangling with bosses at the 2004 hit's studio Paramount Pictures.

The main cast, including Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and Christina Applegate, are all expected to return, and Wilson has also made it known he is eager to rejoin the cast - even though his Anchorman alter ego ...

Emma Watson's Movie 'Perks Of Being A Wallflower' Wins Rating Appeal

3/9/2012 1:54pm EST
Emma Watson
Producers behind Emma Watson's new film The Perks Of Being A Wallflower have won an appeal to have the film's restrictive 'R' rating overturned.

The picture, which stars Watson, Paul Rudd and Logan Lerman in the tale of a troubled high school student was initially rated 'R' by censors at the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), due to its depiction of teenage drug and alcohol use.

The rating meant kids under 17 would have to be accompanied by an adult and executives at Summit Entertainment, the production company behind the film, appealed against the decision.

Two Jews on Film - By Joan Alperin Schwartz: Things aren't going well for married couple Linda (Jennifer Aniston) and George (Paul Rudd). HBO has rejected Linda's documentary on Penguins suffering from testicular cancer, they felt it wasn't sexy or violent enough. Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies
Leading into the Academy Awards this upcoming Sunday, I’m trying to catch up on all the Best Picture nominees which I missed in 2011. Last night I watched the Alexander Payne drama “The Descendants” starring George Clooney, which I liked immensely. I found its Best Picture and Best Actor nods much deserved, though I felt it was a bit too heavy on the narration and the Hawaiian music for my taste. My Grade: A-

Dropping in at the box office this week are the David Wain comedy “Wanderlust,” the Tyler Perry inspirational story “Good Deeds,” Amanda Seyfried crime thriller “Gone,” the mili...
