After a ten year absence from the Oscars stage, Chris Rock is poised to helm Hollywood's Biggest Night, but is the Academy ready for him?

According to a report by Variety, the actor and comedian is in talks to host the 88th Annual show.

Rock last hosted the event in 2005.

People reported that Rock may have a better shot than most due to his connections from his hit series "Everybody Hates Chris."

On Sept. 1, the Academy named Hudlin and David Hill as producers of the 2016 ceremony.

Celebrities That Turn 50 In 2015
Simple mathematics indicate that 50 years ago would make it the year of 1965. That year was a unique and troublesome time in the world as the Vietnam war really began to escalate - as well as the civil rights movement. The Counter culture began to awake as skirts got much shorter and men started to grow their hair a bit longer.

Gas was a mere 31 cents per gallon and the average rent was $118 per month.

In pop culture “The Sound of Music” was released, the Beatles played their famous live concert at Shea Stadium and the Grateful Dead played their first concert in San Francisco – just to na...

'Saturday Night Live' Recap: Chris Rock And Prince Take Center Stage At NBC Studio 8H

11/2/2014 7:02am EST
Prince snl
In the past year, “SNL” was widely criticized for its lack of diversity, hired a new black cast member following that public pressure, debuted its first black Weekend Update cast member, and from the writer’s room brought on another black cast member. So an episode hosted by Chris Rock seemed poised to be the most head-on examination of race on “SNL” in years, or even decades. While that element was present, it was not really any more so than it has been in the past couple of years. Overall, in fact, this edition ended up like most episodes of the past couple of years: consisting of most...

Ben Affleck
A lot of famous fans were stunned when it was revealed overnight that Ben Affleck will replace Christian Bale as Batman in the 2015 "Man Of Steel" follow-up.

Check out what some celebs said on Twitter about the casting:

Wil Wheaton said: "Really looking forward to seeing Affleck bring the depth and gravitas to Batman that he brought to Daredevil and Gigli."

Funnyman Billy Eichner noted: "How dare Ben Affleck ruin the integrity of a franchise where a grown man p...

Trailer Talk: Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus' Could Be This Summer's Next Big Blockbuster & More

6/4/2012 1:02pm EDT
Arriving in theaters this week are Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated sci-fi vehicle “Prometheus,” the silly computer animated sequel “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted,” the coming-of-age comedy “Lola Versus,” the indie time travel comedy “Safety Not Guaranteed,” the period piece drama “Bel Ami,” the family relationship dramedy “Peace, Love, & Misunderstanding,” and Todd Solondz’s drama “Dark Horse.”

Unfortunately my pick from last week, “Snow White and the Huntsman,” was plagued by bad acting, lackluster action scenes, and farfetched concepts even for a fairy tale. Not only was it diff...

Tribeca Notes 4/26: Rob Lowe's 'Knife Fight' A Success, '2 Days In New York' To Premiere

4/26/2012 11:20am EDT
Rob Lowe
The premiere of Rob Lowe's Knife Fight last night was a rousing success. It was well-written, funny, and smart. One of the more enjoyable experiences I've had screening thus far at Tribeca.

If you’re looking to rush the ticket line tonight at the Tribeca Film Festival, there are a pair of powerful documentaries playing that are worth your time. the first is Planet of Snail, the story of a blind/deaf Korean man who happens to be an aspiring writer and his tiny, handicapped wife. The most heartwarming scene of all the films playing at Tribeca might just be in this film, when the couple mu...

Kanye West has asked fans to keep the victims of the Haitian earthquake in their memories over the festive season as "people are still suffering."

Thousands were left homeless following the devastating tremor, which struck the region in January, 2010, and West has called on his followers to remember those less fortunate as they celebrate the holidays - because many Haitians are still struggling to adapt to life after the tragedy.

Louis C.K. Talks About Joys, Challenges Filming Season Two of ‘Louie’

7/7/2011 1:00pm EDT
Louis C.K.
If you’ve seen actor/comedian Louis C.K.’s absurdist comedy “Louie” on FX, chances are you either love it or don’t get it at all. The show is unique for a variety of reasons, most notably the fact that C.K. not only stars in the show, but also writes, directs and edits every episode himself. He is also one of the producers and has a contract with FX Networks that gives him complete freedom in terms of story and production, something that is unheard of in the television industry. There is no question that “Louie” really is his show.

“The writing is the most difficult because that’s where it...

Chris Rock 'Assumed' He Would Have A Teleprompter For Broadway Play

6/19/2011 2:29pm EDT
Chris Rock
Comedian Chris Rock "assumed" Broadway actors read their lines off a teleprompter until he made his own debut this year.

Rock, who currently stars in the play "The Motherf---er With the Hat," admits when he first signed onto the project he didn't realize he would have to memorise his own lines - he thought production officials would set up cue cards to guide him.

During an appearance on The View on Friday, he says, " I assumed at some point, and this is how ignorant I am, that there would be cue cards on Broadway. I thought that (the producers) they were just hiding them from me for now ...

Chris Rock 'Offended' By Tracy Morgan's Comments

6/13/2011 12:42pm EDT
Chris Rock
Chris Rock has taken aim at Tracy Morgan for his controversial gay jokes after initially defending the troubled TV funnyman.

The 30 Rock star hit headlines last week after making a series of offensive comments about homosexuality at a stand-up show in Nashville, Tennessee.

Rock initially defended Morgan, telling fans in a post on, "I don't know about you, but I don't want to live in (a) world where Tracy Morgan can't say foul inappropriate s**t."

However, the comedian has now backtracked after reading Morgan's remarks and his subsequent apology, and he made his feelings cle...

Partying With The Celebs at Mardi Gras

2/27/2011 12:53pm EST
This year, Mardi Gras ends on “Fat Tuesday”, March 8th and many people in New Orleans will be celebrating by drinking mass amounts of Hurricanes, throwing beads off of balconies in the French Quarter, watching the parade down Bourbon Street and of course, flashing their ta-tas. Here are a few celebrities we would love to party with in the Big Easy.

Former Playboy Platemate, Kendra Wilkinson showed us on The Girls Next Door that she is always down to have a good time. Even after she married Hank Baskett and had baby Hank, she still enjoys a good night out complete with dancing on a stripp...

Carmelo Mania in New York

2/24/2011 12:01pm EST
Carmelo Anthony
Melo madness reached its tipping last night as he finally made his debut in Madison Square Garden. After starting slow in the first half, Anthony got it going in the second. When his new partner in crime Amar’e Stoudemire fouled out, it was Anthony who would make two clutch baskets down the stretch to give the Knicks the win. Melo was only 10 for 25 accounting for 27 points and also had 10 boards but it was more about the shots that did fall compared to the ones that didn’t. This was a night to remember in the garden as it was a culmination from all the chaos that has surrounded Anthony for...

12/12/2010 10:30am EST
Chris Rock
Chris Rock came to the rescue of a pregnant woman who went into labour at a shopping mall in New Jersey on Friday.

The funnyman was browsing the aisles of the Neiman Marcus department store at the Westfield Garden State Plaza mall when he saw the mother-to-be's waters break in the middle of the shop.

Rock rushed over to help and stayed by her side until medics arrived, according to US Weekly.

A source tells the publication, "He was making the crowd and the woman in labour laugh. She recognised who he was immediately and he stayed there until the paramedics took her away."

Chris Rock To Serve Mariska Hargitay Breakfast In Bed Naked?

12/8/2010 1:18pm EST
Chris Rock
Chris Rock is set to strip off to bring Mariska Hargitay breakfast in bed - the actress bid $25,000 at a charity auction to have the comic serve her in the nude.

The Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star was among the guests attending the Children's Defense Fund benefit in New York City on Monday night. Rock helped raise money by offering to serve a winning bidder breakfast, and when auctioneer Ali Wentworth failed to secure a huge donation for the prize, the clever saleswoman upped the odds by insisting he carry out the task naked.

According to the New York Daily News, she told the cr...

Comedy And Tragedy: Comedians Who Passed Away While Still In Their Prime

10/18/2010 2:07pm EDT
Greg Giraldo
Last month, the comedy world lost two great stand-up comedians – Robert Schimmel and Greg Giraldo. Schimmel was best known for his appearances on "The Howard Stern Radio Show" and several HBO specials, displaying his off-color humor. Giraldo was known for his appearances as a roaster on Comedy Central's annual roast of celebrities and as a judge on last season's "Last Comic Standing" on NBC. Both comedians died under unusual circumstances – Schimmel died from injuries suffered in a car accident, and Giraldo passed away from an accidental overdose of prescription medication. These two comedi...

Chris Rock's Anti-Bill Cosby Tirade Nearly Cost Him His Career

6/26/2010 9:41am EDT
Chris Rock
Chris Rock almost ended his comedy career before it started by taking aim at Bill Cosby on the beloved funnyman's own show.

Pal Adam Sandler invited Rock to the set of "The Cosby Show" when he was shooting a handful of episodes in his late teens - and when the pre-program warm-up comedian fell ill, Rock stepped in to keep the studio audience amused.

Sandler admits his friend was an instant hit with both Cosby and his fans - until he turned on the star of the show.

Sandler recalls, "Rock, all of a sudden, starts going, 'And what's with this Bill Cosby?' Everyone's like nervously lau...

'Grown Ups' - Which Actor Has The Best Post-SNL Career?

6/25/2010 12:33pm EDT
Grown Ups
This weekend the comedy film Grown Ups premieres starring four of the most currently well known Saturday Night Live alumni: Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, David Spade, and Rob Schneider. Kevin James, a beloved comedian from TV land, also stars with them. The film is about five men who were best friends as children and reunite after 30 years to catch up and learn about how they've all become adults. None of these actors are particularly known for being grown ups themselves, so it will be interesting to see how the movie goes. Here's a look at the main actors, specifically the SNL survivors, and w...

Review: Adam Sandler's 'Grown Ups' Is Juvenile

6/24/2010 1:49pm EDT
Grown Ups
One of my greatest fears has been confirmed by seeing Adam Sandler’s “Grown Ups.” My favorite cast of “Saturday Night Live” from the 90s is starting to lapse into Eddie Murphy syndrome: they have no problem with making crappy family comedies just to cash paychecks.

Watching this poor excuse for something funny made me embarrassed for them. I expected a few lowbrow laughs from these folks who capitalized it after their stint on “SNL.” I hoped perhaps though that these seasoned comedians had something better up their sleeves.

“Grown Ups” stars Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, Kev...

Salma Hayek: Red Belt, Red Shoes, Red Hot!

6/24/2010 11:00am EDT
Salma Hayek
Salma Hayek looked seductive in a busty white dress with red heels when she left her N.Y.C. hotel yesterday to attend the premiere of her film "Grown Ups."

In the film, five former basketball teammates gather 30 years after graduating from high school at the lake house where they celebrated their biggest victory to mourn the passing of their late coach.

Over the course of the Fourth of July weekend, the five friends realize that just because they've all grown up and started families doesn't mean that they've lost that old spark.

Salma Hayek's Busty Black Vest - Hot Or Not?

6/23/2010 11:52am EDT
Salma Hayek
Salma Hayek nearly busted out of her black leather vest after leaving her hotel to head to the "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" show in New York City yesterday.

The Mexican actress recently talked about her favorite snacks, which are a little creepy.

She explained, "We eat bugs, Mexicans. Look, I'm salivating. They're delicious. These little ants fried are amazing - with a little guacamole. And the worms... there are many different recipes for those. The little grasshoppers have a smoky flavor to them. It's the way they cook them, and it's really good."

Salma also stopped by the "Late Show...

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies - 'Grown Ups,' 'Knight and Day,' & More

6/21/2010 9:04am EDT
Grown Ups
I saw two films from last week’s line up: “Toy Story 3” and “Jonah Hex.” As expected “Toy Story 3” was absolutely amazing. Pixar continues to surprise me by making entertaining films that are both funny and poignant at the same time. I’m always impressed by their ability to create a story that appeals to people of all ages.

The latest installment in the franchise has Woody, Buzz, and the gang struggling to figure out what to do now that Andy is leaving for college. When they are accidentally donated to a local day care center, the pals plan an escape back to their owner. On the way th...

Salma Hayek's Ugly $5,700 Boots

4/27/2010 2:23pm EDT
Salma Hayek
Salma Hayek appeared at Christie's Green Auction: A Bid to Save the Earth last week wearing an unusual pair of black and white Balenciaga platform boots. Money certainly doesn't buy taste. Despite the high price tag, we think they're ugly.

Salma stars in the upcoming film "Grown Ups" alongside Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider and David Spade. In the film, five former basketball teammates gather at the lake house where they celebrated their biggest victory to mourn the passing of their late coach. The friends realize that just because they've all grown up and started fa...
