There's 'A Million Ways To Die In The West' In The Hilarious Redband Trailer

January 30th, 2014 7:03pm EST
A Million Ways To Die In The West
There's A Million Ways to die in the West isn't just the title of Seth MacFarlane's upcoming comedy, it's a pretty accurate description of the film itself.

In the premiere red-band (R-rated) trailer, Seth MacFarlane's character Albert loathes the fact that everything is deadly in Arizona in the late 1800s. However, Albert is smitten with a newcomer played by Charlize Theron who also happens to have the skills to teach him how to take on a deadly outlaw (Liam Neeson). That doesn't mean Albert will learn shooting any faster, as he has difficulty taking out bottles at point-blank range.

10 Celebrities You May Not Know Are Scientologists

July 8th, 2012 1:00pm EDT
Sofia Milos
It's widely known that Tom Cruise, John Travolta, his wife Kelly Preston and Kirstie Alley are scientologists. Cruise is going through a very public divorce with actress Katie Holmes, and it is allegedly due to his ties with the religion.

Twelve years ago, Travolta made the film "Battlefield Earth," a film adapted from the novel by Ron L. Hubbard, the founder of Scientology.

In 2010 on Larry King Live, Alley said her religion helped her with weight loss, considering she'd only been fat three or four years of her life. "God knows where I'd be if I hadn't changed the things I have changed,"...

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies - 'Contraband,' 'Joyful Noise' & More

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies
After a great deal of hype, I finally watched David Fincher’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” and honestly I’m not in love with it. Aside from the fact that it’s long-winded at 2.5 hours, the movie isn’t all that exciting in the first act. We get to see two separate storylines involving Lisbeth (Rooney Mara) and Mikael (Daniel Craig), which aren’t very compelling on their own, especially Craig’s portion.

My biggest gripe however, is its over-sexualized lead character Lisbeth. Even though I haven’t read the book series on which the film is based, I understand that Lisbeth is not terr...

Review: 'The Rum Diary' A Lackadaisical Booze Cruise

October 29th, 2011 12:00pm EDT
taptaptaptaptaptaptaptap
I left the screening of The Rum Diary feeling as if the pacific ocean itself had washed over me. There was a warmth in my belly, and this sort of slack smile on my face as I pondered what I would write about this film. My feelings are mixed. I'm wholly aware that as a film, with character arcs and a plot and a message, it sort of falls a bit flat. But as an experience, well, it's a different story.

The Rum Diary follows the many Caribbean adventures of Paul Kemp (Johnny Depp). Depp channels the snappish cadence and befuddled eyebrows of his Fear and Loathing in Las Vegasperformance, but di...

Businessman Jack Harris (Wilson) made his living solving other people's problems. Wayne Beering (Ribisi) and Buck Dolby (Macht) were two technological innovators with a plan to make a mint by selling pornography online.

When Jack met Wayne and Buck, it was a match made in money heaven. Before long the trio was making 200,000 dollars a day, but it wouldn't last. When a young porn star begins...

James Cameron is set to explore the deepest point of the ocean to film footage for his "Avatar" sequel.

The two-seat submersible will be fitted with a heating system and 3D cameras to capture pictures of the depths for the movie, expected to hit theaters in 2014.

Cameron, who has long had a passion for diving, is hoping to begin preparing for his mission later...

A Chinese writer is persevering with his threats to sue James Cameron over allegations the director based his blockbuster "Avatar" on a 1997 novel, even though officials at two courts have refused to submit the breach of copyright case.

Zhou Shaomou claims the plotlines in the sci-fi epic were lifted from his book, "Tale Of The Blue Crows", which was published online.

He tells China Daily, "Eighty per cent of the plot and the key elements of 'Avatar' are similar to my 1997 science fiction novel 'Tale Of The Blue Crows.'"

Shaomou has failed so far in his attempts to file a lawsuit in Chin...

AVATAR
Last week I had a chance to catch "Invictus," director Clint Eastwood's latest effort. A lot of early buzz suggests the film should be a Best Picture contender at the Academy Awards, but I personally wasn't too impressed.

While "Invictus" isn't a terrible movie, it certainly isn't Eastwood's best. In many ways it just feels forced because the film tries too hard to send an inspirational message.

Eastwood explores a number of subplots that he never fully fleshes out, and he fails to establish the proper dramatic tension that makes a sports picture so powerful. As an audience member ...

Playing A Special Needs Character: Roles Nobody Can Afford To Phone In

November 18th, 2008 12:08pm EST
The Ringer
Portraying people with special needs hasn't always been done in an entirely politically correct manner in Hollywood. The further back in history one looks, the more likely a film's content contains something now considered offensive.

Yet in recent forays down that complicated road, many actors have not only stepped up to the plate, they've hit home runs in roles that challenge a society's perspective on many facets of the relationships and abilities of those who simply happen to be the way they are. Each time a movie comes out with a special needs character with a dramatic or serious ...

Top 5 Greedy Movie Characters

One can argue, rather easily, the reason we are in such a financial mess today is greed. There are, of course, different dimensions to this greed. Whether it be deregulation, or approving mortgages to people at astronomical interest rates that had no money, well, pick your poison. So, perhaps, while we try to kill time while waiting in the unemployment line together, we can find some solace in remembering some of the greediest characters from motion pictures and their eventual comeuppance.

The modern version, with its title shortened to "Flicka," stars Alison Lohman and country music superstar Tim McGraw as daughter and father. When the father (McGraw) decides that Katie (Lohman) should attend college in place of running the family ranch, she decides to tame a wild mustang in order to sway his opinion. Zigman's score is rousing and propulsive, reminiscent of the dynamic scores of golden-era westerns such as "The Magnificent Seven." Directed by Michael Mayer ("A Home at t...
