Amy Winehouse
Bosses at a U.K. rehab center attended by Amy Winehouse and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers have been fined $57,000 for treating patients without obtaining a proper license.

District Judge Cooper criticized the owners of the Causeway Retreat for being "scandalously negligent, if not downright misleading and fraudulent" in a ruling at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court, England on Friday.

Managers of the private hospital on Osea Island in Essex, England pleaded guilty to two charges of carrying on a medical service that was unregistered with the Care Quality Commission.

The judge ordered them to pay $12,...

Jonathan Rhys-Meyers
Jonathan Rhys Meyers is seeking treatment for an alleged alcohol addiction, according to reports. The Tudors star is said to have struggled to maintain his sobriety since a 2005 stint in a clinic to address personal issues.

In 2007, he ran into trouble with police at an airport in Dublin, Ireland, where he was arrested and charged with being drunk and disorderly. The charges were later dropped. He once again caused a stir in Paris' Charles De Gaulle airport last year after allegedly assaulting an employee while drunk. And earlier this week, Meyers was reportedly banned from a U.S. flight ...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'The Wolfman,' 'Valentine's Day,'

February 8th, 2010 10:15am EST
The Wolfman
Pierre Morel's film from last week "From Paris With Love," isn't awesomely bad, but instead it's just plain bad. As an action movie, it's visually entertaining because it engrosses you in the fight scenes and shootouts

, while maintaining solid pacing. These elements are completely overshadowed however by the horrendously written dialogue and plot.

The story doesn't introduce any specific elements to engage the audience or fully explain the terrorist plan the protagonists are hoping to thwart. In some instances the dialogue is so ludicrous that you find yourself audibly laughing at ...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Dear John,' 'From Paris With Love,' 'Frozen'

February 1st, 2010 12:00pm EST
From Paris With Love
I returned to the movies last week to see Mel Gibson's thriller "Edge of Darkness." A large part of me was anxious to see it since I knew Gibson plays a Boston cop whose daughter is murdered in front of him. As Gibson's character, Detective Thomas Craven, launches his own investigation into his daughter's untimely demise, he starts unraveling threads to a conspiracy involving big business and government in Massachusetts.

While this sounds like a promising plot that could be quite engrossing, in execution the film falls flat in creating the necessary tension. The pacing for most of the...

Everything Geeky: Onscreen Inaccuracy - Necessary or Needless?

June 30th, 2009 11:34am EDT
The Tudors
I was recently flipping through channels on a quiet Sunday evening when the new show "Merlin" caught my eye. It was originally a British TV drama that did fairly well and premiered in the US on June 21. So far it's viewership isn't too bad and they even got a second season, but seriously? It's terrible. It's terrible in that awesome way where the plots are silly and the acting is somewhat ridiculous, but yet you can't help but keep watching. It has a certain badly budgeted charm that is a reminder of "Hercules: The Legendary Journey" and "Xena: Warrior Princess." Only it's lighter, fluffier...

Our Favorite Bug-Eyed Celebrities

April 21st, 2009 10:11am EDT
Jonathan Rhys-Meyers
In Hollywood, you've got show-stopping performances and eye-popping beauties. But what about those Hollywood beauties whose eyes just pop? Some celebrities are recognized by their plunger lips, or by their adorable pair of dimples, while others are distinguished by their bulging peepers. The bug-eye feature is very hit or miss, however. On one hand, bug-eyes have the ability to create unconventional gorgeosity in a person, but on the other hand, they are also capable of making good faces go Muppet.

Christina Ricci falls into the former category of bug-eyed celebrities. Her sizeable...

Showtime's 'The Tudors' Is Back

April 6th, 2009 4:22pm EDT
The Tudors
Aaaaand we're back! Season 3 of Showtime's The Tudors started with more of a whimper than a bang, as the debatably most interesting period in Henry VII's rule (the Boleyn years) ended last season with poor, delicious Anne losing her head. Now we move into a decidedly slower, stodgier era, with the marriage of Henry to sweet, simple Jane Seymour, and the eventual birth of the King's long-awaited heir, Edward.

The season premiere confirmed the classier direction the show is taking; gone are the hallmark gratuitous sex and fluffy costume-porn filler scenes of the racy first season, and he...

Jonathan Rhys Meyers
Irish actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers has reportedly checked into rehab in a bid to kick his alcohol problems once and for all.

According to website, The Tudors star is attending a recovery center in England to deal with his booze problem. It would be Meyers' third attempt at rehab - in 2005, he spent time at Malibu, California's Promises Clinic in a bid to get sober, and he underwent further treatment in April 2007.

However, he suffered a setback in November 2007 when he was arrested at Dublin Airport by Irish police and charged with being drunk and in breach of the p...

Jonathan Rhys-Meyers: 'I'm Not A Player'

February 2nd, 2009 2:45pm EST
Jonathan Rhys-Meyers
Irish actor Jonathan Rhys-Meyers is a dud when it comes to love - insisting he doesn't believe in romance.

The hunky star, who portrays Henry VIII in romp-filled TV hit The Tudors, is adored by legions of female fans across the world and has been romantically linked to a string of beauties including Toni Collette, Rachael Leigh Cook and Estella Warren. However, the 31-year-old admits he struggles to woo potential lovers with traditional romantic tactics.

Why I Don't Feel Guilty About Loving 'The Tudors'

January 20th, 2009 10:00am EST
The Tudors
Why on Earth do I love Showtime's The Tudors so much, anyway? On the surface, this show has all the earmarks of the guiltiest of guilty pleasures: over-the-top costumes, fiery political intrigue, loads of violence, and plenty of, um, bodice-ripping. And I can't get enough of it. Perhaps it's because the steamy historical soap is unique, in that it has the odd ability to entertain the hell out of me even while it takes ridiculous, impossible liberties with history, characterization, and plot. Usually I get all bent out of shape when a movie or TV show portrays an event or people in ways that...

Amy Winehouse Rumored For Movie Role

January 14th, 2009 10:27am EST
Amy Winehouse
Troubled singer Amy Winehouse could soon be trading the recording studio for Hollywood - she's been offered a part in a new movie, according to reports.

The Back to Black hitmaker has been sent a script by bosses at Universal Pictures who are interested in signing Winehouse up to play a music teacher in a problem school.

But she'll only land the part if she can stay away from drugs, reports Britain's The Sun newspaper.

A source tells the publication, "The movie is a bit like Michelle Pfeiffer's film Dangerous Minds. Playing a music teacher will allow Amy to use her singing sk...

The Most Underrated & Overrated Woody Allen Films

August 29th, 2008 11:58am EDT
Woody Allen
This month, Woody Allen returned with his best film in years. The mesmerizing love triangle that is "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" takes Allen back to his world of thematic comedies of love that he first cultivated in the mid-70s. It has all the classic Allen touches like his stylized adult dialogue and self-examining humor.

It's a pleasure to see the Woodman operating again at full form after a decade filled with "Scoop", "Hollywood Ending" and films of that nature. This return to brilliance can't help but make a fan re-explore Allen's films of year's past.

When doing so, you're ce...

HBO Vs. Showtime

August 21st, 2008 9:00am EDT
Big Love
An average TV viewer has hundreds of options to watch on any given time slot, so if he or she chooses to pay extra money for a special channel, it better deliver on what it promises. HBO and Showtime are two channels that offer movies - both new and old - and quality television programming. Usually the shows are inappropriate for regular cable, and they are given more freedom to be daring, innovative, and crude.

HBO has been showing new movies and producing popular television since 1977, while Showtime focused more on boxing championships and premiering impressive short independent fi...

Joss Stone To Star In 'The Tudors'

August 5th, 2008 4:22pm EDT
Joss Stone
The blonde beauty with the Aretha Franklin vibrato, Grammy-winning songstress Joss Stone, will join the cast of Showtime's The Tudors' third season, playing Anne of Cleves, Henry VIII's (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) fourth wife. Stone will star in three episodes, which are currently shooting in Dublin, Ireland, and will return in 2009.

Viewers and critics alike have been enthralled watching the storied exploits of the sexy, hard-bodied King Henry VIII (Rhys Meyers) as he weds, beds and beheads women and wives across 16th century England. Both Rhys Meyers and the series have been nominated for...

July 28th, 2008 3:19pm EDT
Actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers kicked his alcohol addiction after the death of his mother - because her untimely demise gave him the determination to do more with his life.

The Irish star's mom Geraldine Meyers-O'Keeffe suffered a stroke in November, and Meyers turned to alcohol in a bid to cope with the news - resulting in his arrest for drunken behavior at a Dublin, Ireland airport hours later.

She passed away unexpectedly two days later. Charges of public drunkenness and breach of the peace against Meyers were later dropped. And the Mission: Impossible III actor - who entered reh...
