What really makes a memorable movie car chase? Could it be speed, style, sass – or maybe all of the above? The arrival of "Fast Five" (hitting theaters on April 29), which combines all the original Fast and Furious gang with some highly decked out new roadsters, has us at Starpulse revving our engines with nostalgia. Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Transylmania,' 'Everybody's Fine' & More

November 30th, 2009 10:04am EST
Tomorrow evening I will have the opportunity to see Jason Reitman's new travel comedy "Up in the Air" starring George Clooney. I have read a number of early favorable reviews of the film, and I really like Reitman's movies, so I'm fairly excited.

Comedy seems to prevail as a common theme this week. At the box office there will be two dramas and three comedies. Two of the films premiering are American adaptations of foreign films. In addition to "Up in the Air" films opening this week include "Armored," "Brothers," "Everybody's Fine," "Serious Moonlight," and "Transylmania."

Spicy Food Caused Jean Reno's 'Heart Attack'

August 22nd, 2008 12:07pm EDT
Jean Reno
French actor Jean Reno's 'heart attack' was actually a bout of heartburn and gastroenteritis, according to his publicist. Reports suggested the Da Vinci Code star had been rushed to the Fort-de-France hospital on Martinique on Wednesday night after suffering a "serious" cardiac arrest on the Caribbean island of St. Barts.

But his publicist, Christina Papadopoulos, the fuss was nothing more than the result of "too much spicy Caribbean food."

She says, "Reports that actor Jean Reno is in the hospital due to a heart attack are false. He is vacationing in the Caribbean and went to a l...

The Three Best & Worst Films Starring Tom Hanks

April 18th, 2008 2:29pm EDT
Tom Hanks
Tom Hanks is a rare movie star in that he is a top leading man without topping anyone's most beautiful list. Rather he established, and maintained, his stardom by fusing a "boy next door" image with undeniable talent.

He is equally at home with romantic comedies and dramatic war epics; however, he seems reticent to play the meanie. More than most, he can fit into a role without exhibiting a "Tom Hanks" persona. He has even delivered a number of memorable performances on "Saturday Night Live," a venue that allows true talent to reveal itself. (And on the flip side, it emphasizes those ...

Sequel to 'The Professional' Unlikely

July 12th, 2006 3:02pm EDT
Jean Reno starred in The Professional
Acclaimed French filmmaker Luc Besson has ruled out a sequel to hit movie The Professional in a bid to end the countless script offers he's received. The director has been flooded with possible follow-ups to the 1994 smash starring Jean Reno and a young Natalie Portman but insists they've only served to put him off the project for good.

He says, "No, I don't think so. People say 'Oh, I've written the sequel - here! I'll send you the script.' And I basically send a lawyer and say 'F*** you! It's not yours'. It's not love. It's stealing. These guys are just thieves that's all. If we do ...

Jean Reno Turned Down 'The Matrix' Role

May 13th, 2006 3:30pm EDT
Jean Reno
French actor Jean Reno turned down the role of villainous Agent Smith in The Matrix movies because he didn't like the idea of leaving his native France for months of filming in Australia.

The star was offered the role ahead of Aussie actor Hugo Weaving but took the tough decision to stay in Europe rather than travel half way around the world to shoot the film.

He recalls, "There was a period of my life where I couldn't move from France, and they were shooting in Australia for four-and-a-half months, which is a long time."

Jean Reno Was Honored To Get Role In 'Da Vinci Code'

May 12th, 2006 4:19pm EDT
Jean Reno
Making The Da Vinci Code was extra special for actor Jean Reno after he learned author Dan Brown had written French cop character Bezu Fache with him in mind. The star was given the news from Brown himself on his first day of filming and couldn't believe he'd inspired a character in a bestseller.

Reno says, "He only told me that when we were shooting in the Louvre Museum (in Paris, France). I was very honored. You are very touched to think that somebody is writing with you in mind. It's like having two lives."

Test Audiences For 'Da Vinci Code' Hate Tom Hanks' Hairstyle

April 18th, 2006 9:47am EDT
Tom Hanks
The Da Vinci Code movie has been thrown into chaos after test audiences admitted they hated Tom Hanks' hairstyle. The normally short-haired actor grew his locks for the role of Robert Langdon in the adaptation of Dan Brown's best-selling novel, but viewers admitted to researchers they found his lank locks a major turn-off. A studio insider told The Sun newspaper: "Much of the talk is about the hair. But it's too late to fix it."

Hanks admitted to Japanese Prime Minister Junichro Koizumi earlier this month he had modelled his 'bowl cut' hairstyle on the world leader. On meeting Koizumi,...

Ron Howard Gets Candid About 'The Da Vinci Code'

December 19th, 2005 11:51am EST
Ron Howard
Filmmaker Ron Howard says that the upcoming movie based on Dan Brown's mega-hit novel "The Da Vinci Code" will not soften the story's more controversial elements. There will be "no placating," he told Newsweek in its annual "Who's Next" issue, which names the up-and-comers in politics, business, science, sports and the arts that will make headlines in 2006.

"It would be ludicrous to take on this subject and then try to take the edges off. We're doing this movie because we like the book," Howard says.

Since "The Da Vinci Code" was published in 2003, the book has become a global in...
