How I Met Your Mother: 'The Exploding Meatball Sub'

April 11th, 2011 11:09pm EDT
How I Met Your Mother
How I Met Your Mother came back with a new episode last night and will be new for the next four straight weeks leading up to the season 6 finale on May 16th.

Last night’s episode was called “The Exploding Meatball Sub,” but that was not really the main part of the episode. Instead, and rather unfortunately in my opinion, it centered on the complicated relationship between Ted (Josh Radnor) and Zoey (Jennifer Morrison) and also Marshall’s (Jason Segel) continuing lack of fulfillment at work.

Ted is working on the project for the new GNB Headquarters, which is to be built on the sight ...

'HIMYM' Recap: John Lithgow Is Barney's 'Legenddaddy,' Or Is He?

Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) finally meets his dad Jerry (John L
How I Met Your Mother returned with a new episode last night after a few weeks of reruns, and if that wasn’t exciting enough, it was revealed that Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) would finally meet his estranged father.

Equally exciting was the news that Barney’s father, Jerry, would be played by John Lithgow. The classically trained actor has proven his range with comedic roles like Dick on 3rd Rock From the Sun and serious ones like his award winning performance as the Trinity Killer on Showtime’s Dexter, and seems like a perfect choice for HIMYM.

The episode started in typical HIMYM fash...

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies - 'Rango,' 'The Adjustment Bureau' & More

Rango
Not only did I see last week’s comedy “Hall Pass” starring Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis, but I had the chance to interview its directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly. If you haven’t already, definitely check out my interview, and my review of “Hall Pass.”

I also hit theater to see the Ed Helms comedy “Cedar Rapids” which I thoroughly enjoyed. Helms stars as Tim Lippe, a small-town Wisconsin guy who’s dispatched to an insurance seminar in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The naïve Lippe is shocked when he arrives at the conference, where three of the wildest attendees Dean Ziegler (John C. Reilly), Jo...

Things are getting heavy on How I Met Your Mother.

The comedy best known for Robin Sparkles, Slapsgiving, and lots and lots of suits has received notice recently for its drama — namely, the surprise death of Marshall's father. Marshall's sudden brush with mortality has already inspired Barney to search for his real father. But how will it affect his best friend, Ted?

John Lithgow to play Barney's father on How I Met Your Mother

"He gets in a new relationship and that encourages his own version of that soul-searching," Josh Radnor told TVGuide.com. "I'm not prepared to say on the record i...

Rachel Bilson: Skirt? Check. Bra? Check. Blouse…Blouse?

April 9th, 2010 3:15pm EDT
Rachel Bilson
Rachel Bilson brought some sex appeal to last night's premiere of "Waiting for Forever" at the 15th Anniversary of the Gen Art Film Festival. But we're not sure what's going on with the bustier-inspired dress. What do you think?

Directed by James Keach, the film stars Bilson, Blythe Danner, Richard Jenkins, and Tom Sturridge. It centers on Emma (Bilson) and Will (Sturridge), who play long lost best friends—or so Emma thinks. When her mediocre TV show is canceled and news of her father’s illness spreads, Emma’s forced back to her hometown, where she meets a new set of unexpected struggles ...

January 8th, 2010 1:32pm EST
How I Met Your Mother
On Monday, CBS will air How I Met Your Mother's 100th episode (entitled "Girls Vs. Suits!") as their first new episode in 2010, back from the holiday hiatus. However, a select amount of lucky fans got to screen the episode early on January 7 at the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills.

Featuring an intimate question and answer panel with the stars and creators of the show, the event was full of festive fun for the musical episode that was a dream come true for at least one castmember: Neil Patrick Harris. Though most of the cast has had experience in musicals before (Alyson Hannigan w...

In a March interview with Entertainment Weekly, How I Met Your Mother co-creator Carter Bays said, "At the end of the season, we will address the title of our show."

Neil Patrick Harris confirmed to Michael Ausiello that yes, ""We're going to learn all about the goat in the season finale."

The season finale of the ever more popular How I Met Your Mother is tonight! As Josh Radnor told our own Mike Ryan in January, "I would rather be a smaller number of peoples' favorite show than everybody's twentieth favorite show." It's becoming apparent that HIMYM is becoming a lot of people's ...

Interview: 'How I Met Josh Radnor'

Josh Radnor
I fully admit this particular column is going to be anything but non-partisan. Regular readers will know that I am an unabashed fan of CBS's Monday night sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Once even going so far as to declare it the best show on television. So, it comes as no surprise that I was absolutely thrilled to have this long conversation with the series star, Josh Radnor, who plays the lead character, Ted Mosby.

Josh Radnor and I discuss New York living, the awesomeness of co-star Neil Patrick Harris and the back story behind Neil's People Magazine interview when he decided to come ...

Lots Of Nakedness On 'How I Met Your Mother'

November 25th, 2008 10:37am EST
How I Met Your Mother
Monday night's episode of How I Met Your Mother was a rebirth of sorts, at least it was for Ted (Josh Radnor). Ted finally peeled of the stigma (kinda literally) left over from his breakup with Stella by standing naked in front of Vicky, a girl who works in his office building.

Why would he do this? Because it is obvious that Ted standing nude is a metaphor for the commencement of a new life. The old Ted is gone, this is the new improved Ted that, yes, may be a little battle scared, but this Ted is not afraid to declare to the world that he is back. Or, perhaps, none of that is accurat...

Woo! 'How I Met Your Mother' Recap

November 18th, 2008 10:20am EST
How I Met Your Mother
I have done a lot of "woo" lately. A lot. During the last few months I was an unmarried, kinda depressed, jobless guy (an era that officially ended today - woo!) living in Manhattan who needed quite a few sips of grandpa's old cough medicine to make it through ... if you know what I mean (wink, wink). Kind of the exact same situation Robin (Cobie Smulders) is going through on How I Met Your Mother, well, except for the "guy" part.

Yes, when you are sober there is nothing more annoying than the fist few notes of Journey's "Don't Stop Belivin'" because soon to follow, nay, always to foll...

'How I Met Your Mother': 'Not a Father's Day'

How I Met Your Mother
Three quick points:

(A) I hereby nominate Barney's (Neil Patrick Harris) friends, Larrabee and Finkelstein, for their own show. Did anyone else notice these two goofballs on How I Met Your Mother? I love the entire of concept of characters that have absolutely no lines and are just there to smile, nod approvingly at themselves and give high fives.

(B) Marshall's (Jason Segel) boss was Kevin Arnold's dad on The Wonder Years. Winnie Cooper was on the show last season. How long will it be before we get a Jason Hervey cameo? I know he is busy with those Scott Baio is 45 and Lovin' It (or...

'How I Met Your Mother': Weakest Episode Of Season 4

November 4th, 2008 9:39am EST
How I Met Your Mother
Two episodes ago on How I Met Your Mother, we all thought the lives of Ted (Josh Radnor), Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), Robin (Cobie Smulders), Marshall (Jason Segel) and Lily (Alyson Hannigan) would all be uprooted and never quite be the same again. Nope. Taking a break from election-eve coverage, I was shocked at how quickly things were back to normal in what was easily the weakest episode of the season.

How weak? Here is the recap in eighty-five words: Everyone is at McLaren's. Marshall is upset because Ted is not upset enough about being stood up at the alter by Stella (Sarah Chalk...

Stella Not The Mother On 'How I Met Your Mother'

October 21st, 2008 9:42am EDT
How I Met Your Mother
First of all, I need to apologize for mistakenly announcing this week's episode of How I Met Your Mother was going to be a repeat from last season. Considering Monday night's episode revealed some major plot points, well, I take full responsibility if you missed it.

So, Stella (Sarah Chalke) is officially not the mother. She is on the ferry, headed back to New Jersey to spend her life with the father of her child (Jason Jones). Does anyone else feel a little set up with the last two episodes considering the soul searching catharsis Ted (Josh Radnor) experienced, well, twice? Perhaps th...

'How I Met Your Mother': Intervention

How I Met Your Mother
I can't tell you how many times over the past few years someone buys an expensive bottle of scotch -- albeit not a twenty-five hundred dollar bottle -- and, at least to me, it tasted like gasoline. At the end of Monday night's episode, we see Ted (Josh Radnor), Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), Robin (Cobie Smulders), Marshall (Jason Segel) and Lily (Alyson Hannigan) celebrating -- in October of 2009 -- with the aforementioned bottle of terrible tasting expensive scotch, over the changes that had (will) occurred over the past (next) year.

Exactly what has changed? We don't really know. We ...

'How I Met Your Mother': NYC vs The Garden State

October 7th, 2008 9:46am EDT
How I Met Your Mother
I never thought I would ever entertain the idea of living in New Jersey. Ever. That is until Marshall (Jason Segel) gave his extremely convincing monologue on why New York is terrible. But, before we get to that ...

Ted (Josh Radnor), hates New Jersey. He absolutely despises it. Why is this a problem? Ted's fiancé, Stella (Sarah Chalke), lives in New Jersey with her daughter and is expecting Ted to move in with them. For people that do not live in New York City, New Jersey might as well be another planet when it comes to seeing your friends that happen to live there. For some reason th...

HIMYM
The season premiere of 'How I Met Your Mother' was Monday night, but first, let's recap. (FYI, This is not my first experience with writing HIMYM episode recaps, they date back to last season on my personal blog.)

When we left off, Ted (Josh Radnor) had just proposed to Stella (Sarah Chalke) and we were waiting for an answer. Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) had slept with Robin (Cobie Smulders); Marshall (Jason Segal) quit his job at a law firm and is now unemployed as he and his wife Lily (Alyson Hannigan) prepare to move into a new apartment that is ... well ... structurally crooked...

What's The Best Show On TV Right Now? Starpulse Writers Weigh In

April 21st, 2008 8:33am EDT
Best TV Show?
What makes a TV show great? Is it the number of viewers or awards it has received? Not necessarily. In its last season, less than 3 million people tuned in to an episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," but it is unarguably one of the best sci-fi/fantasy shows of all time. In seven seasons, the show won just one Emmy - in 1998 for outstanding makeup. Guess what other fan favorite won just one Emmy (also for outstanding makeup)? Gilmore Girls.

Despite both series' original and witty screenwriting, they never received the props they deserved. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Lauren Graham bo...

A Very Special Rose Ceremony: 5 Undesirable TV Bachelors

There is something just giggle worthy about kicking contestants off a reality show by denying them a rose, the very object that our society has deemed a symbol of love. Ultimately it makes them feel unworthy, regardless of how undesirable the man on the other end of the stem may actually turn out to be. So in honor of the newest season of The Bachelor, which debuted on ABC last week, it seems only fitting that we should hold a very special rose ceremony of our own.

The first rose must go to one-half of pop culture's so-called perfect couple (but clearly not everyone agre...
