This Week's Movie Buzz: See It, Rent It, Or Skip It?

April 13th, 2009 8:57am EDT
17 Again
I must admit that two weeks ago, I grossly underestimated how popular "Fast & Furious" would be. The film captured the title of highest grossing opening weekend for a car-themed movie by taking in $72.5 million. I think it's important to note this, because I believe I'm an excellent judge of movies, but I admit the movies I recommend will not always reflect the average American movie patron's opinion.

STATE OF PLAY

Things seem to be perfect for up-and-coming U.S. congressman Stephen Collins (Ben Affleck), until the murder of his research assistant and mistress. It becomes ...

Made In Connecticut: Filmmakers Turn East Coast State Into Moviemaking Mecca

May 8th, 2008 8:45am EDT
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Is Connecticut the new Hollywood? Probably not, but it has become a hotspot for filmmaking. The quaint, colonial towns and Yale's impressive architecture led director Steven Spielberg to direct a portion of his highly anticipated "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" in New Haven. Director Sam Mendes admits that the state is a central character in his latest movie, "Revolutionary Road," starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Sure, the New England state is beautiful in the fall with its crimson leaves, pumpkin patches, and white picket fences. It features beautifu...

March 5th, 2008 4:26pm EST
Dance
Dance Til Dawn: 20 Years Later: The fall of 1988 threw a bunch of up-and-coming sitcom stars into the great mixing pot equalizer of a made-for-TV movie. It didn't matter who was already on top with their own shows (like Tracey Gold in Growing Pains); it didn't matter who was virtually unknown (As The World Turns' Brian Bloom); and it didn't even matter who was completely green (Chris Young): suddenly, they were quite literally thrust back into high school (quite literally, actually), where any trace of awkwardness was exploited and popularity was simply a state of mind.

That movie was...
