Thief Who Robbed Kirsten Dunst Sentenced

9/7/2010 8:55pm EDT
Kirsten Dunst
The man convicted of stealing Kirsten Dunst's $2,000 designer purse from a New York hotel room in 2007 has been jailed for four years.

James Jimenez was accused of raiding the "Spider-Man" star's suite at the SoHo Grand Hotel in Manhattan while the actress was filming "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People" with Simon Pegg and Megan Fox.

Pegg's cell phone was also among the items swiped from the room.

Jimenez faced counts of burglary and trespassing and went on trial last year, where jurors found him guilty of the latter charge. They were left deadlocked on the more serious burglary al...

Biggest Movie Surprises of 2009

12/28/2009 12:00pm EST
Star Trek
At the start of every new year, critics and movie fans alike look at the list of movies for the year and start to consider what looks the best, the worst, and what might surprise them. There are shocking hits, failures, and then the movies with the highest expectations that actually succeed ... or totally crash and burn. 2009 had some excellent blockbusters that might have annoyed the critics ("Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," "G.I. Joe," "New Moon") but still managed to kill in the box office. Then there were the indie films that managed to become hits, or the big star names that neve...

This Week's Movie Buzz: See It, Rent It, Or Skip It?

6/29/2009 10:48am EDT
Public Enemies
I saw "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" last week, and I really enjoyed it. Apparently among critics I was in the minority on that one. The film certainly wasn't perfect, but I didn't think it was nearly as bad as people were saying.

The surprising thing for me though, was how divided people's opinions were about it. For the most part I found that people who viewed the film fell into two camps: those that loved it and those that hated it. I didn't really encounter a many people who fell in between.

July starts out a bit slow this week with "Public Enemies," "Ice Age: Dawn of...

Movie Remakes & Recastings We Hope To Never See

6/8/2009 9:40am EDT
Mary Poppins
In the wake of the current brain-draining drive to remake just about everything Hollywood has ever had to offer, there are some films that are so sacred they should never be touched. This is a blatant retort to the deluge of watered down franchises, remakes, medium changes, etc. It ranges in levels of snark from low to apocalyptic strength.

My frustration with this extremely long trend came to a fever pitch after watching the Obsessed trailer. Anyone even peripherally familiar with Fatal Attraction could easily catch the obvious, racially spurred recasting of a classic film.

Another Look At the Cast Of 'Star Trek'

5/9/2009 10:41am EDT
Star Trek
The reviews for Star Trek have been mostly positive, so it's okay to assume the sequel that Paramount gave the go ahead to a few weeks ago is going to happen. Here's a quick look at the "cast of unknowns" who actually have a lot of acting credits between them.

Chris Pine starred opposite Anne Hathaway in The Princess Diaries 2

and Lindsay pre-rehab trips Lohan in Just My Luck. He was nearly unrecognizable in Smokin' Aces, but his least hated project was probably the little seen Bottle Shock.

After a few the less said the better television show appearances, Zachary Quinto joined ...

Lessons J.J. Abrams's 'Star Trek' Could Learn From Past 'Trek' Films

5/8/2009 9:50am EDT
Star Trek XI
It's been over 40 years since Gene Roddenbury's "Star Trek" hit the air, and after ten movies, 703 episodes from five different series, and faltering public interest, it's become difficult to go back to where no one has gone before. Now, four years after "Enterprise" went of the air, the original crew of the starship Enterprise has burst back onto the screen. Directed by "Lost" and "Alias" creator J.J. Abrams, this new installment of the "Star Trek" saga goes back to the beginning when James T. Kirk first slipped on his yellow Starfleet uniform. Still, it hasn't been an easy path for the lo...

Star Trek, which explores the origins of icons Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock, opens this weekend, and while the characters aboard the USS Enterprise might be familiar, some of the faces might not. Here's a look at some of the past and future performances from the main cast:

Plays: Captain James T. Kirk, eventual commander of the Starship Enterprise.

This Week's Movie Buzz: See It, Rent It, Or Skip It?

5/4/2009 9:03am EDT
Star Trek
In the second week of our summer movie season, we have a lull in the number of films coming out. There are just three movies being released, and of those, two are premiering in mainstream theaters. Despite being a quiet week though, we have the release of "Star Trek," one of the most highly anticipated blockbusters of the summer, as well as "Next Day Air" and "Rudo y Cursi."

In this re-imagination of the "Star Trek" franchise, the story chronicles the early adventures of James T. Kirk, Spock, and the other characters aboard the USS Enterprise from the original series. ...

Review: 'Star Trek' Is A Blockbuster That Deserves The Hype

5/1/2009 2:24pm EDT
Star Trek XI
When the new "Star Trek" was announced, directed by J.J. Abrams and starring a hot young cast, it was playfully referred to as "Star Trek 90210" and many fans were skeptical of its worth. Reboots of popular series are often very disappointing, and it was especially dangerous with such a diehard fanbase ready to tear apart each and every detail. The Original Series started the Trek world, and it was known to be hilarious, cheesy, and the best sci-fi they had at the time. The Next Generation was sleek and more serious, but personally I always preferred the original cast; especially their movi...

Starpulse's Explosive Summer Movie Preview

5/1/2009 10:06am EDT
Star Trek
Since the dawn of the American cinematic blockbuster in the late 1970s and early 1980s, moviegoers have eagerly waited for May - the unofficial beginning of summertime. This summer is no different. Films, and most popular media, are social mirrors, and this summer season supports that. The large box office contenders all deal with very similar themes: escapism and the support of the lone, outlaw hero figure (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, Up, Transformers 2, Public Enemies, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, Inglourious Basterds, et...

British Invasion: UK Shows Coming To America

8/26/2008 9:03am EDT
Life On Mars
With the American version of "The Office" still leading NBC's fall line-up, remakes of successful British shows have become a hot commodity. Picking up on this success, several networks have snatched up the rights to remake some of the most popular British shows. It's a process that has obviously worked in the past, at least in the world of reality television. "Dancing with the Stars," "Big Brother," and "Celebrity Fit Club" all had their start in the Fallen Empire, but remakes of drama and comedy haven't been nearly as successful. For better of for worse, here's a list of shows that will i...

3/7/2008 2:36pm EST
Star Trek
The newest entry in a popular film franchise invariably invokes feelings of anticipation and excitement from diehard fans. It also happens to raise expectations enormously for the finished product. Some are enamored and fall in love with the offering, while others simply detest it. For the most part, eagerly awaited new installments in franchises like "Star Wars," "Indiana Jones," and "Star Trek" are met with one of those two reactions. Rarely are they thought ...

Simon Pegg has defended Tom Cruise. The Shaun Of The Dead actor worked with Tom on Mission: Impossible III and insists the controversial Hollywood star is not obsessed with Scientology and is a great guy.

Simon told FHM magazine: "He never mentioned it. I spent a lot of time with Tom and it wasn't spoken about once. Everything you hear about people, that isn't from first hand experience, is invariably wrong. And my first hand experience of Tom Cruise was very positive."

Tom was said to have spoken to several guests at his November wedding to Katie Holmes, including Jennifer Lopez,...
