The six-disc box set The Bible features stage and screen great Laurence Olivier reading Old Testament stories and Psalms from the King James Bible, accompanied by orchestral music inspired by the good book and the holy land. Olivier spent over three years and 1000 hours recording this project, and it shows: his readings of "The Creation," "The Ten Commandments," "David and Goliath," "David and Bathsheba," "The Vision of Isaiah" and "The Wisdom of Solomon" are masterful, bringing the stories to life in a mostly understated but always powerful way. Olivier's voice renders some of the Bible's most vivid passages even more compelling, and the set is an inspired way of giving these stories an added intimacy and immediacy.
