Paul Newman is one of the truly great stars of Hollywood and recognized as a fine actor. Newman began his career at Warner Bros. and he detested the confines of the studio system and bought out his contract. Seen today his early WB films are fine. Mainly due to the fact Newman--- like Henry Fonda, Susan Hayward, Barbara Stanwyck, Meryl Streep-- is incapable of giving a poor performance. Newman like the others above "become the character" Newman has worked with a who's who of Hollywood such as Elizabeth Taylor, Robert Redford, Tom Cruise, Jennifer Jones, Steve McQueen, Faye Dunaway, Shirley MacLaine, et al. His most significant co star is his wife of 50 years Joanne Woodward. Today the Newman's are as respected in their work in film as the Lunts were in Theatre. Paul Newman in the sunset of his career has won Oscar, and every major Acting award worldwide. A boxoffice star of the first magnitude for nearly 50 years, he is likely today to be most satisfied for the work he has done with his Charitable Foundation The Newman's Own Foundation wherein Paul Newman has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to charity worldwide especially for terminally ill children. Paul Newman is the definition of a great Star, a brilliant versatile actor, but most of all for being a standard for others to follow as a decent, honorable Man. | ||
