Eddie Murphy Quits As Oscars Host

November 9th, 2011 2:54pm EST
Eddie Murphy
Eddie Murphy has quit as Oscars host a day after pal Brett Ratner resigned as the big event's producer.

The Rush Hour director stepped down over a homophobic slur he made during a movie question-and-answer session last week and now the funnyman Ratner signed on to present the Academy Awards has followed him out the door.

A statement from Murphy, released on Wednesday morning, reads, "First and foremost I want to say I completely understand and support each party's decision with regard to a change of producers for this year's Academy Awards ceremony. I was truly looking forward to being ...

Eddie Murphy is using press interviews around his new movie "Tower Heist" and his Oscars hosting gig to help promote a potential boxing clash between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

A big fight fan, Murphy recently hung out with Mayweather, Jr. in Las Vegas and he insists he's a longtime supporter of Pacquiao - and he can't wait for the two boxers to sort out their differences and get in the ring.

And Murphy's interest has been spiked by the news Mayweather, Jr. has tentatively booked the MGM Grand in Las Vegas next May for the big fight.

Two Jews' Review 'Tower Heist' And Find This Caper Comedy Not Very Funny (Video)

November 5th, 2011 10:00am EDT
Tower Heist
Two Jews on Film - By Joan Alperin Schwartz: All I can say is thank the Movie Gods for Eddie Murphy because he single handedly put the funny in this new so-called, comedy entitled, 'Tower Heist,' directed by Brett Ratner.

So here's the story in a nut shell.

There's this super sleazy, super rich, Wall Street dude named, Arthur Shaw (Alan Alda) - No, this film isn't a fantasy. Sleazy Wall Street dudes really do exist.

Arthur occupies the Penthouse apartment of New York City's tallest high rise called 'The Tower.' Arthur is charming, friendly to the staff, loves to play chess with the...

Drew Barrymore Is Hollywood's Most Overpaid Star - See Who Else Made The List!

November 4th, 2011 9:00am EDT
Drew Barrymore
Drew Barrymore and Eddie Murphy have been named and shamed as the most overpaid actors in Hollywood.

The Forbes.com poll suggests Barrymore's recent movies have generated a return of just $0.40 for every $1 she is paid by film studio bosses, thanks to box office flops "Whip It," "Everybody's Fine" and last year's "Going The Distance," which earned a paltry $17.8 million in U.S. ticket sales.

Murphy fared considerably better - his films returned $2.70 for every dollar, but it wasn't enough to save him from second place on the list as 2008's "Meet Dave" and 2009's "Imagine That" failed to a...

Funnyman Eddie Murphy hasn't had a drink in 18 years because the taste of alcohol makes him nauseous.

The Shrek star admits he last sipped booze on his honeymoon with first wife Nicole in 1993.

He says, "I don't drink at all. At all. I can't drink, because I will throw up. And sometimes it looks like the drinkers are having so much fun and I cannot."

"The last time I got drunk was... on my honeymoon, maybe 18 years ago. And that was the second time I got drunk and it was the last time. I was just thinking, you know, it's all good, I only had three glasses of champagne. It don't take a...

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies - 'A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas,' 'Tower Heist' & More

October 31st, 2011 2:00pm EDT
Harold & Kumar 3D - Tower Heist
Last week I watched two classic horror movies: “The Thing” and “The Exorcist.” Watching John Carpenter’s “The Thing,” just further reminded me of how crappy the recent prequel was. With its spooky score, good looking practical effects, and more fully formed characters, Carpenter’s story is far superior. If you were thinking about seeing the prequel, skip it, so you can stay in and watch Carpenter’s version.

Even though I didn’t find myself grossed out by any of the nasty behavior of the possessed little girl (Linda Blair) in “The Exorcist,” I really appreciated the eerie music, the sp...

Eddie Murphy is baffled by reports he's a Hollywood recluse, insisting he's out all the time - he's just too old to attend parties.

The funnyman admits he prefers to be at home than hanging out with fellow stars at Los Angeles clubs - but that doesn't make him a hermit.

The Dreamgirls star tells Rolling Stone magazine, "I leave my house all the time, but I'm not at all the Hollywood parties. I'm grown, and where else am I supposed to be? I'm supposed to be home.

"If I were out in the clubs every night, they'd be saying, 'That's a shame, look at him, 50 years old, he's still out at these ...

Review: Adam Sandler's 'Grown Ups' Is Juvenile

Grown Ups
One of my greatest fears has been confirmed by seeing Adam Sandler’s “Grown Ups.” My favorite cast of “Saturday Night Live” from the 90s is starting to lapse into Eddie Murphy syndrome: they have no problem with making crappy family comedies just to cash paychecks.

Watching this poor excuse for something funny made me embarrassed for them. I expected a few lowbrow laughs from these folks who capitalized it after their stint on “SNL.” I hoped perhaps though that these seasoned comedians had something better up their sleeves.

“Grown Ups” stars Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, Kev...
