Learn More About SyFy's New Drama And 'BSG' Spinoff 'Caprica'

August 20th, 2009 10:07am EDT
Caprica
Long ago, in a popular culture period far, far away, to watch or read science fiction was synonymously tied to the then derogatory term of 'geek'. Now that stereotype has somewhat weakened. One of the many reasons for this change was the Ron Moore reimagining of 'Battlestar Galactica' in 2004. 'BSG' was a hit not just amongst the typical sci-fi fan base, as it is most commonly discussed as a space opera, but to more non-traditional fans. When 'Heroes' debuted on NBC it was a break in network format. Many questioned why it was not to air on the sister channel, then, Sci-Fi, and spurred d...

Actor Esai Morales is to lead a protest in Los Angeles on Saturday urging motorists to boycott four leading city car washes.

The former NYPD Blue star will join other Screen Actors Guild members as part of an ongoing protest against so-called deplorable working conditions. The activists will gather outside the Vermont Hand Wash in the Los Feliz community.

In February, Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo filed a criminal complaint against car wash owners Benny and Nisan Pirian, four of their car washes, and Vermont Hand Wash manager Manuel Reyes. He claimed criminal miscon...

Race Matters: Is Hollywood Truly Color Blind When It Comes To On-Screen Romance?

September 29th, 2008 9:49am EDT
Die Another Day
In John Grisham's bestselling novel "The Pelican Brief," investigative journalist Gray Grantham and law student Darby Shaw uncover a political conspiracy and in the process, end up between the sheets. In the 1993 film version, Darby Shaw (played by Julia Roberts) and Grantham merely share a chaste hug in the film's conclusion. What happened between page and screen? One theory: In the novel Grantham is white; in the film, he's portrayed by Academy-Award winning - and black - actor Denzel Washington.

The stigma of interracial relationships in cinema can be traced back to the 1934 Motio...

'Jericho' Series Finale: Second Time The Charm?

March 26th, 2008 9:04am EDT
Jericho
With "Jericho's" second (and likely final) cancellation announced late last week, this week's season finale has suddenly become a series finale. Thankfully for "Jericho" diehards (and CBS execs certainly know that they are out there), The Powers That Be foresaw this turn of events and filmed two endings for the episode - a cliffhanger and a conclusion. Since the show was cancelled, we received the latter. The only question is - does it satisfy?

The Final Beginning

On to the episode. Jake (Skeet Ulrich) and Hawkins (Lennie James) prepare to journey to Cheyenne in order to reacq...

'Jericho' Episode Recap: Everybody Hates Goetz

March 12th, 2008 9:22am EDT
DB Sweeney plays Goetz in Jericho
In season two, "Jericho" has fulfilled the promise of an uneven first year and become possibly the most gripping and action-packed hour of prime time television. Of course barely anyone knows that because only about 6 million people are watching. Guess the allure of "Primetime: What Would You Do?" is a little too much.

Sad music = sad times

This week's episode begins with the aftermath of an epic shootout at the Richmond farm that left Bonnie (Shoshannah Stern) dead and Mimi (Alicia Coppola) badly wounded. The mood around town is quite somber, and not even an appearance by t...

'Jericho' Recap: Shootouts & Mystery Men

March 5th, 2008 10:39am EST
Jericho
The explosive second season of ''Jericho'' continues with yet another gripping installment. Big revelations were made about the conspiracy, certain characters’ eyes were opened, and shootout at the Richmond farm claimed the life of one Jericho citizen. Honestly, what more can you ask for? Well, besides more of bumbling deputy Jimmy (Bob Stephenson) that is.

Revolution!

Could a revolution be brewing in Jericho? Many locals are unhappy with the town administrators put in place by Jennings & Rall, and they are complaining about getting used and abused. Talk quickly turns to the Ameri...

'Jericho' Episode Recap: Welcoming Back Familiar Faces

February 27th, 2008 8:48am EST
Jericho
The gripping second season of "Jericho" continues as citizens of the beleaguered town are forced to deal with the return of Ravenwood, the mercenary group that nearly invaded Jericho months earlier. This time, Ravenwood is not simply a bloodthirsty rogue unit, shooting and looting across the Midwest. Now they are working for The Allied States of America and the country's doughy faced puppet master, Valente (Daniel Benzali).

Needless to say, Jake (Skeet Ulrich), Eric (Kenneth Mitchell) and company are not very pleased to see the return of Ravenwood or its sadistic leader, Goetz (D.B. ...

'Jericho' Recap: Decline and Fall of the First Republic

February 20th, 2008 9:44am EST
Jericho
Week two of the "Jericho" revival (one that looks to be short-lived if last week's ratings are any indication) starts off with another riveting recap of the story so far. That's all well and good, but unfortunately it seems that the only people watching the series are the diehard fans from last year, so it doesn't serve much of a purpose. Still cool, though.

Meet the new government

Things start out nice and serene, as Stanley (Brad Beyer) and Mimi (Alicia Coppola) enjoy a quaint breakfast of chocolate chip pancakes (yum-yum) and comment about how calm life has become. Uh-oh. T...

'Jericho' Season Premiere: New Government, Same Old Jericho

February 13th, 2008 8:54am EST
Jericho
The long-awaited second season of "Jericho" finally premiered, and viewers get to witness the events that transpired after Jake's (Skeet Ulrich) now famous battle cry. It is a well earned victory, one that caused a massive peanut shortage throughout the United States. But enough about the behind-the-scenes drama. What happened on screen? Was it worth the wait?

Where were we?

Things got started with a long but well constructed recap (a recap that was ultimately more exciting than the episode). The recap goes over the basics: 23 American cities destroyed by nuclear weapons. R...

'Jericho' Season Two Preview: Welcome to the Allied States of America

February 12th, 2008 10:23am EST
Jericho
"Jericho" returns tonight on CBS, 10 p.m. ET. When last we left our intrepid and resourceful post-apocalyptic mid-westerners, they were engaged in an all-out battle with the neighboring town of New Bern. Former mayor Johnston Greene (Gerald McRaney) had died a rather anticlimactic and needless death (as the most beloved character in the series he at least deserved to go out in a blaze of glory).

The tide had turned in favor of New Bern. But would those courageous Jericho folk simply surrender? Would they go quietly into the night? Never! They went back out there, Jake (Skeet Ul...

Latina actress Rosie Perez decided to become a documentary filmmaker "out of frustration" that the lives of Puerto Ricans in America were going undocumented.
