Celebrity Runners Forced To Scrap Plans After New York Marathon Cancellation

November 3rd, 2012 10:07am EDT
Jonny Lee Miller
Actor Jonny Lee Miller and Christy Turlington will have to put their running shoes back in the closet - the New York Marathon has been cancelled.

City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's decision to allow the big race to go ahead on Sunday in the wake of Hurricane Sandy was met with criticism as victims of the superstorm were still struggling to get back to normality.

And just as power was returned to much of lower Manhattan, where the race is run, on Friday, it was announced the marathon had been scrapped.

A statement from the Mayor's office reads: "We have decided to cancel the NYC marathon."...

CBS's 'Elementary' Review: Much Ado About Nothing

September 27th, 2012 1:00pm EDT
Elementary
Ever since USA’s “Monk” nabbed a bunch of a viewers and a trunk-load of Emmys for lead actor Tony Shalhoub, shows that delve into the anti-hero hero have cluttered the television landscape. There was the painfully acerbic crippled doctor who compulsively diagnosed the undiagnosable in “House”; the former con-man turned consultant to the California Bureau of Investigation in “The Mentalist”; and now there is “Elementary,” CBS’s new show about a vaguely familiar genius British detective who is a slave to his crime-solving compulsions.

After watching the pilot, an alluringly shot series sta...

He actually performed Frankenstein on stage with Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Holmes in the series Sherlock.

Q&A: Danny Boyle Talks 'Trainspotting' Sequel Plans With Original Cast, His Films, Plus Bonus Blu-ray Review

Danny Boyle
If there is one filmmaker who I could proudly proclaim as the best and most diverse director working today, hands down it’s Danny Boyle. His amazing originality, ability to re-invent himself with each movie and sheer eclectic vibe of his body of work makes Boyle a filmmaking force to be reckoned with, bar none. One of his early calling cards is hitting glorious Blu-ray via Lionsgate on Sept. 13 in the form of one five-star "Trainspotting: Collector’s Edition" and I don’t mind saying not only does it look picture perfect, it’s chocked so full of extras that it might as well have been a box...

TV On DVD: 'Dexter: Season Five'

August 18th, 2011 3:10pm EDT
Dexter
This week, CBS Home Entertainment released season five of Showtime's hit series Dexter on DVD and Blu-Ray. Here's my look inside the DVD version.

The Show

After a spectacular fourth season (I don't know about you, but I have a really hard time watching John Lithgow in those 3rd Rock from the Sun reruns now), Dexter had a tough act to follow. While I don't dislike season five as much as some fans, I can see where their disappointment comes from - it's a worthwhile go, but the standard was set high and it didn't quite get there.

Julia Stiles (10 Things I Hate About You) is the season...

Brad Pitt And Angelina Jolie Considering Marriage

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are feeling the pressure from their children to become man and wife, despite previously insisting they would only exchange vows when same-sex marriage is legalized.

The Hollywood stars, who have been dating for six years, have continually brushed off the idea of making their romance official by heading to the altar.

In a 2006 interview with Esquire magazine, Pitt famously declared: "Angie and I will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able."

But the Ocean's Eleven hunk admits they are warming to the ide...

Last year’s big guest star, John Lithgow, was a powerhouse. This quarte...

'Eli Stone' Season Finale: Is George Michael God? And Other Burning Questions About the Universe

It has been a long and arduous journey for Eli Stone this season - both the character and the series. The character of Eli (Jonny Lee Miller) has had to deal with visions from God, a deadly aneurysm, and a complete change of lifestyle; while the series struggled with inconsistency early on. Although things for Eli the character have continued to be murky in recent weeks, "Eli Stone" the series has greatly improved in the second half of its season. All of that has lead to the season finale, which is without a doubt the strongest episode in the series thus far.

It's a nice foggy day in San Francisco, and it's good to see that. This might seem nitpicky, but "Eli Stone" rarely features establishing shots of the city with the famous fog present, so it's a nice change. The writers don't waste any time moving things along this week, as Eli (Jonny Lee Miller) gets his vision in the first scene. And it's...wait for it...a vision of the future! No, it's not a dark, Sarah Connor-like nightmarish view of a post-apocalyptic wasteland, but hey, it's still the future! Seems like a man named Dennis Mosley (Sterling K. Brown) is quite the popular leader in ...

Nate is being sued by a widower (played by "Oz" alum Blake Robbins!), who claims that Nate made a biased decision when he passed over the man's wife for a heart transplant. Too bad, those were pretty much the only interesting component of the show. So anyway, after the generic recap, things start off with Eli (Jonny Lee Miller) and Maggie (Julie Gonzalo) in Hawaii.
