The Three Best & Worst Films Starring Tom Hanks

April 18th, 2008 2:29pm EDT
Tom Hanks
Tom Hanks is a rare movie star in that he is a top leading man without topping anyone's most beautiful list. Rather he established, and maintained, his stardom by fusing a "boy next door" image with undeniable talent.

He is equally at home with romantic comedies and dramatic war epics; however, he seems reticent to play the meanie. More than most, he can fit into a role without exhibiting a "Tom Hanks" persona. He has even delivered a number of memorable performances on "Saturday Night Live," a venue that allows true talent to reveal itself. (And on the flip side, it emphasizes those ...

Ian McKellen
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) - Ian McKellen, who played Gandalf the Wizard in the ''Lord of the Rings'' trilogy, is hoping to reprise the role in another tale from Middle Earth.

A fan asked McKellen on the actor's official Web site if he would play the role of Gandalf in ''The Hobbit,'' which is being produced by Peter Jackson, director of the ''Rings'' trilogy.

''Yes, I will, if Peter Jackson and I have anything to do with it, he being the producer and me being, on the whole, a very lucky actor,'' McKellen, 68, said in a reply dated Wednesday.

Jackson reached a deal with New...

Three Rappers Turned Successful Hollywood Actors

March 4th, 2008 11:55am EST
Will Smith
Music entertainers are constantly making the transition from the world of singing to acting. The goal is usually to be a double, triple or quadruple threat via becoming an amazing musician/actor; musician/actor/producer or musician/actor/producer/director.

Specifically, it is not uncommon to hear of rappers going from the music video screen to the small and big screens. There a number of them who have done it quite successfully. But, there are three in particular whose success has surpassed all expectations. They are: Will Smith (a.k.a. Fresh Prince), Mark Wahlberg (a.k.a. Marky Ma...

Revamping The 'X-Men' Movies: Possibilities For The Future

January 23rd, 2008 12:06pm EST
X-Men
For better or worse we have a completed X-Men movie trilogy. You didn't think that was the end though, right? Wolverine fans can expect the character to debut in a self-titled movie due for release in 2009, with a Magneto prequel set to follow. It's only a matter of time before the X-Mansion is revisited and we get another outing with our favorite mutant team.

If they do make an "X-Men 4" perhaps it'll be time to change a few things within the franchise -- a new creative team perhaps, some new cast members, maybe *gasp* not have Wolverine as the lead character. Let's take a look at so...

Ian McKellen Says Playing King Lear More Nerve-Racking Than Movie Roles As Gandalf, Magneto

July 18th, 2007 1:34pm EDT
Ian McKellen
SINGAPORE (AP) - Ian McKellen says playing the title character in William Shakespeare's ''King Lear'' is more nerve-racking than his recent Hollywood film roles.

Singapore is the first stop on the Royal Shakespeare Company's international tour of ''King Lear'' and ''The Seagull'' by Anton Chekhov.

'''King Lear,' I've been seeing all my life. I mean, the great actors of my lifetime ... to join their company, as it were, by playing a part that's challenged them, is one of the great joys of being an actor who does the classics,'' the 68-year-old actor said Wednesday at a briefing. ''...

Fall 2006 Movie Preview: Animated Films

August 13th, 2006 1:45pm EDT
Everyone
It’s been hit-or-miss with animated films this summer. Cars took in an impressive $237 million at the box office, grossing over $60 million in its first three days. In contrast, The Ant Bully bombed with an $8.4 million purse in its three-day debut, while Monster House also disappointed with a $22 million three-day bow.

Perhaps the tides will turn when the 20th Century Fox release Everyone’s Hero hits the big screen on Sept. 15 (eight days before the official start of fall). The film tells the story of a young boy's cross-country journey to help Babe Ruth and the New York Yankees wi...

Test Audiences For 'Da Vinci Code' Hate Tom Hanks' Hairstyle

April 18th, 2006 9:47am EDT
Tom Hanks
The Da Vinci Code movie has been thrown into chaos after test audiences admitted they hated Tom Hanks' hairstyle. The normally short-haired actor grew his locks for the role of Robert Langdon in the adaptation of Dan Brown's best-selling novel, but viewers admitted to researchers they found his lank locks a major turn-off. A studio insider told The Sun newspaper: "Much of the talk is about the hair. But it's too late to fix it."

Hanks admitted to Japanese Prime Minister Junichro Koizumi earlier this month he had modelled his 'bowl cut' hairstyle on the world leader. On meeting Koizumi,...
