'I Love You Phillip Morris' Finally Gets Release Date

August 27th, 2010 4:00pm EDT
Jim Carrey
Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor's heavily delayed film "I Love You Phillip Morris" is finally set to hit cinemas following the resolution of a long-running legal battle over the movie.

The comedy tells the story of a married man, played by Carrey, who discovers he's gay and embarks on a crime spree that lands him in jail where he falls in love with a fellow inmate, played by McGregor.

The film has been hit with a series of delays as movie bosses became embroiled in legal wrangling over the film's finances, but a lawsuit between executives at French film studio EuropaCorp, which produced the ...

Ewan McGregor has filmed a special appeal urging his fellow Brits to help boost aid for flood-ravaged Pakistan.

The star, a longtime UNICEF U.K. ambassador, has added his voice to the campaign to help victims of the disaster as floodwaters continue to rise.

In the video, which will air online and on British TV, McGregor says, "We've all seen the shocking pictures on the news about the floods in Pakistan. These floods have affected more people than the Haiti earthquake and 2004 tsunami combined and as in all disasters, it's the children who have been hardest hit - an estimated 3.5 million ...

Kim Kardashian white house
Apparently the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel was the place to be on Saturday after the White House Correspondent's Dinner. It hosted many celebs such as Kim Kardashian, Ewan McGregor, Ashley Judd, and Dennis Quaid- who all partied until late into the night.

A few behind the scene tidbits from the evening:

- Kim Kardashian flew into D.C. with Ryan Seacrest just to do a last-minute interview. Without an outfit planned, she scrambled and borrowed her mother?s vintage Valentino black and white piece, ordered room service when she checked into the hotel, asked her twitter followers how they tho...

"I like kissing boys on screen. As a straight guy, it's quite an interesting proposition. Anything on a film set that takes you by surprise like that, that gets your blood up, is good." Ewan McGregor likes testing his sexuality on film sets.

Ewan stars in the upcoming film "I Love You, Phillip Morris," which centers on a lovesick prison inmate (Jim Carrey)who goes to great lengths to reconnect with his old cellmate, Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor). TRAILER TALK: THIS WEEK IN MOVIES 2/14/10
Last week I caught Steve Buscemi's dark comedy "St. John of Las Vegas" which was slightly disappointing. While the right brand of humor was there; twisted laughs and awkward moments that inspire chuckles

, I felt that the film did not have much to say.

The overarching story seemed to be building up to some kind of life altering self-realization or dramatic event taking place in Las Vegas for Buscemi's character John Alighieri. This moment never really came, and as a result the entire film seemed very anti-climactic.

Buscemi and Romany Malco make a hilarious team, as Malco's chara...

A Few Of The Best Movie Musicals

On Christmas Day a brand new musical hits the theaters, titled "Nine," and it got Starpulse thinking about the musical genre. The hits on Broadway always keep people wanting more, and over the years musicals have been beloved on the big screen as well. They've won Oscars, attracted huge movie stars, and everyone loves a good dance routine. Here's a look at the best movie musicals in no particular order.

"The Sound of Music," made in 1965, is an Academy Award winning movie and one of the most successful film musicals of all time. After being adjusted for inflation, it is rumored the movi...

Spotlight On Clive Owen

Clive Owen
Born in Coventry, West Midlands, England in October 1965, actor Clive Owen is the quintessential handsome man. Put him in any movie looking dapper and sharp or get him rolling around in the mud and dirt and he'll still come up looking amazing.

Clive has not always been on the fast track when it comes to his acting career. Starting in 1988 through 2000, he appeared and sometimes starred in a number of British television series, TV movies and films. One of those notable films was "Croupier" (1997) where he played a troubled writer who begins to work in a casino in hopes of acquiring ins...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - '2012,' 'Pirate Radio' & More

2012
At some point this week I hope to catch the wacky comedy "The Men Who Stare at Goats." While I have read some bad reviews of the film, I believe my tendency to disagree with the mainstream, could be a wild card for my own appraisal of the movie.

I'm having difficulty believing the collection of George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges could contribute to a horrific film considering I how much appreciate their abilities on screen.

Roland Emmerich destroys the world yet another time this week with his apocalyptic tale "2012." The quirky animation of Wes Anders...

The new George Clooney led comedy, "The Men Who Stare At Goats", opens today and it is filled to the brim with a who's who spectacular cast that will make you find yourself scratching your head and saying, 'I cannot believe they're all in this!"

"The Men Who Stare At Goats" has roots in the Cold War; where the United States military tried using psychic abilities to destroy other people. Yes, attempts at learning how to stare people to death actually happened in the most serious of matters. Needless to say, it's funny through and through.

We were lucky enough to speak with Stephen Ro...

Sadly Boondock Saints II was an utter disappointment. While it had occasional bright moments, the film was marred by a number of problems.

Largely referential to the first film, it felt at many moments as if should be parodying itself, but it sadly wasn't. The overarching story tried to be overly complex in the web of manipulation it sought to weave.

Special Agent Eunice Bloom (Julie Benz) was a terrible replacement for Agent Smecker (Willem Dafoe), embodying every annoying Southern stereotype.

My biggest criticism of the film was that it was just too wacky; it had too many o...

Review: 'Amelia' Displays Stunning Cinematography But Storyline Is Dry & Lacking

October 22nd, 2009 10:21am EDT
Amelia
The new Hilary Swank, Richard Gere led film, 'Amelia,' is a tale of two films. The cast is stellar and the cinematography is simply wonderful; unfortunately something is awry with the script since the film is entirely too long, dry and lacking when it comes to an interesting or an in depth storyline between the two lead characters of Amelia Earhart (played by Hilary Swank) and her husband/man behind the career, George Putnam (played by Richard Gere).

The film covers only the most basic portions of Earhart and Putnam's time together in saying that they were in an open marriage and busin...

Movie Remakes & Recastings We Hope To Never See

In the wake of the current brain-draining drive to remake just about everything Hollywood has ever had to offer, there are some films that are so sacred they should never be touched. This is a blatant retort to the deluge of watered down franchises, remakes, medium changes, etc. It ranges in levels of snark from low to apocalyptic strength.

My frustration with this extremely long trend came to a fever pitch after watching the Obsessed trailer. Anyone even peripherally familiar with Fatal Attraction could easily catch the obvious, racially spurred recasting of a classic film.

'Angels & Demons' Is A Complete Mess

May 18th, 2009 2:41pm EDT
Angels and Demons
Dan Brown's novels have a single extraordinary trick to them that play out in both film adaptations, "The Da Vinci Code" and "Angels and Demons." Essentially, the movies (and books, respectively) are tours of Europe's most famous landmarks given at break-neck speed and cloaked in a cheesy dinner murder mystery that gives them an edge most museum or Vatican tours don't have. In that context, "Angels & Demons" is a success. In all others however, it fails miserably.

Langdon is a symbolism professor called upon by the Vatican to unravel the symbols that point to the location of four card...

Since the dawn of the American cinematic blockbuster in the late 1970s and early 1980s, moviegoers have eagerly waited for May - the unofficial beginning of summertime. This summer is no different. Films, and most popular media, are social mirrors, and this summer season supports that. The large box office contenders all deal with very similar themes: escapism and the support of the lone, outlaw hero figure (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, Up, Transformers 2, Public Enemies, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, Inglourious Basterds, et...
