Matthew McConaughey In talks To Play Villain In 'The Stand'
Matthew McConaughey, who was lauded for his work on HBO's "True Detective," is in talks to star in a TV adaptation of Stephen King's "The Stand."

King wrote "The Stand" in 1978. It chronicles the battle between good and evil after a deadly virus kills most of the world's population.

McConaughey would play chief antagonist Randall Flagg in the post-apocalyptic thriller. Flagg has supernatural powers and lives and rules in the ruins of Las Vegas.

"The Stand" was previously made into a TV mini-series in 1994. The update will be directed by Josh Boone ("The Fault in Our Stars").

Ellen DeGeneres took Matthew McConaughey by surprise on Friday after she accidentally revealed one of the twists in his new space film "Interstellar" during an interview with the actor.

The media has kept mum about the film's plot and twists; however, the daytime talk show host let it slip that another Oscar winner makes a surprise appearance in Christopher Nolan's space drama.

McConaughey seemed to be slightly annoyed when he asked the host, "Me and who?" before trying to stop her from repeating his mysterious co-star's name.

An embarrased DeGeneres quickly realized her mistake and p...

Jim Carrey and Kate Hudson nailed impressions of Matthew McConaughey over the past week, with the actress taking on her "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" costar at the 28th American Cinematheque Award honoring the actor at The Beverly Hilton Hotel last Tuesday.

Carrey delivered his own take during a hilarious skit for "Saturday Night Live" this past weekend, poking fun at McConaughey's new Lincoln car ads.

"Sometimes you gotta go back to actually move forward," the actor said in McConaughey's southern drawl while driving the car. "And I don't mean go back and reminisce, or chase ghosts. I me...

The Australian star told the Los Angeles Times in 2011: "I got the part and immediately started looking at the comic books, and the guy is 500 pounds or something and looks like Schwarzenegger. And I thought, 'OK, I'm not gonna get to that.' But I have to get bigger. (The filmmakers) kept saying 'Yeah, get as big as you can, as big as you can.'"

Started a little slow - I guess I was expecting something more along the lines of Criminal Minds and its pacing - but True Detective has become one of my favorite shows in the history of television, with an indelibly philosophic and anguished detective we've never seen the likes of before on TV and likely never will again.

Matthew McConaughey won the Oscar Sunday night for Dallas Buyers Club and he deserves an Emmy and more for his portrayal of Rust Cohle (in 1995 and 2012, and...

Oscar Predictions: Does 'Gravity' Carry Enough Weight?
For the most part, the major categories at the Oscars are fairly easy to predict. But some years there are upset winners (‘Shakespeare in Love,’ Marcia Gay Harden, Juliette Binoche, Adrien Brody, to name a few) that remind us that anything can happen.

This year is a little different. Who remembers a year where the race for Best Picture is down to three films, two of which are so close that they tied at the Producers’ Guild? It seems like there are some definite locks this year (Hello, Cate Blanchett) but you read it here: Nothing is guaranteed. Nothing.

That said, here are the most likely...

'True Detective': Best And Worst Of The HBO Premiere

January 13th, 2014 9:38am EST
True Detective
Detectives on television aren’t anything new. Procedural TV often follows one case of murder per episode, showing the same police officers week after week solve a crime in the span of 42 minutes. The dark detective genre, however, is a newer phenomenon, only recently popping up frequently on the edgier networks. NBC has Hannibal, AMC tried it with The Killing, and FX aired The Bridge last year. While you can definitely see a show about gruesome murders on CBS, it’s far less likely to see one where the detectives and their own grim lives are the focus.

It’s such a beautiful character arc for McConaughey that you can’t ignore it, and the film itself is just heart wrenching enough, and inspirational enough, to make you stand up and cheer.

Some people were surprised by The Butler’s presence here, but I don’t see any surprises from them. Movies like Gravity and Her (which are frontrunners for a Best Picture nomination) aren’t large cast films, and wouldn’t get the Ensemble nomination over The Butler. The big surprise is Dallas Buyers Club, which is a relatively small cast, and did manage an Ensemble nomination. That could go a long way in getting DBC to a Best Picture nomination. Also, Daniel Bruhl is back in the race with a Supporting Actor nomination for Rush.
